i think that is not realistic in all circumstances.

for any real changes, yes of course we will plan in advance (e.g.
distribution release update, ...)

however, if there is a mayor security update, the lead time will
most likely be quite a bit shorter, depending on the servirity (cases like hartbleed come to
mind).
