== Exclusión limitada del Software Libre en la Directiva sobre los derechos de autor ==
El 12 de septiembre, el parlamento europeo ha rechazado la orden de acelerar la controvertida legislación destinada a reformar los derechos de autor en línea. Tras su rechazo previo en julio, se ha votado de nuevo en este paquete y en está ocasión se ha adoptado. Sin embargo, con las enmiendas 143 y 150 sobre la propuesta actual, existe al menos una exclusión limitada para las “plataformas de desarrollo de programas de código abierto (..) a los efectos de la presente Directiva”. ( documento consolidado [1] )
Esta excepción es en parte resultado de nuestra campaña SaveCodeShare (SalvaCódigoCompartido) [2]. Aproximadamente 13.000 personas ya han firmado nuestra carta abierta pidiendo preservar la capacidad de compartir y construir software en línea y muchos defensores del Software Libre han alzado su voz. Continúa apoyando esta campaña mientras el debate siga abierto.
El próximo paso es el trialogo entre el Parlamento europeo y el Consejo, moderado por la Comisión europea. Este debate continuará seguramente hasta el inicio del próximo año. Seguiremos atentamente este proceso y continuaremos alzando nuestra voz en favor del Software Libre. Si quieres apoyar nuestro trabajo, únete como seguidor [3].
== "Hazte abierto hoy, no hay excusa para no hacerlo" ==
En el marco de nuestra campaña Public Money? Public Code! (Dinero Público, Código Público), realizamos una serie de entrevistas que señalan como mejores prácticas ejemplos y casos de uso adecuados. En esta ocasión entrevistamos a Timo Aarnio [4], experto GIS en la encuesta territorial nacional de Finlandia y propietario del software Oskari. Oskari es una premiada plataforma de Software Libre para navegar, compartir y analizar información geográfica de fuentes de datos distribuidas. Conoce su historial, sus prácticas de desarrollo y una red con cerca de 38 organizaciones del sector público y privado.

== ¿Qué más hemos hecho? Dentro y fuera de la FSFE ==
- La FSFE es ahora colaborador oficial del "Bundesfreiwilligendienst" alemán, un sucesor del servicio civil alternativo anterior. Disponemos de un puesto remunerado a jornada completa para un voluntario que aprenderá sobre nuestra comunidad y el Software Libre. Hay una convocatoria abierta [6] para esta posición. Sé nuestro primer "Bufdi" o difunde el mensaje a quien pudiera estar interesado.
- Hasta hace dos años, la FSFE denfendió exitosamente [7] el derecho de libre elección de los usuarios frente a los routers obligatorios introducidos por proveedores de servicio de internet en Alemania. Las cifras recientes parecen demostrar la importancia de nuestra actividad, ya que sugieren (DE) [8] que el número de usuarios que ejercitaron su derecho de elección se ha doblado desde la aprobación de la ley en 2016. Gracias a los resultados [9] de Tobias Platen los usuarios tiene ahora “libertad de elección” pero no “libertad de software”, porque muchos dispositivos embebidos todavía usan software privativo.
- La FSFE se alegra de recibir a Alexander Sander [10] como nuestro nuevo director del programa de política pública de la UE.
- OMEMO es una extensión del protocolo XMPP que especifica encriptación de extremo a extremo para clients XMPP y es el actual estándar de facto para encriptación XMPP. En su blog [11], Vanitas Vitae comenta los problemas actuales y el futuro probable de este protocolo.
- Paul Boddie razona [12] cómo los defensores del Software Libre podrían mejorar la comprensión de la importancia del mensaje aumentando las cuatro libertades con algunas libertades o declaracones propias.
- Isabel Drost-Fromm publica un resumen detallado [13] de la conferencia que Lorena Jaume-Palasi dió en la FrOSCon sobre la intersección de ética y tecnología: "Bendecido por el algoritmo - el ordenador dice no!".
- En el 25 aniversario de Debian, Bits desde el sótano escribe [14] sobre libertad, Aretha Franklin y el cumpleaños de Debian.
- Diderik van Wingerden estima y calcula [15] cuántos projectos de Software Libre obtendrían beneficio si la gente donase el 25% del precio de la alternativa privativa equivalente.
- Torsten Grote explica [16] los procesos de construcción reproducible y por qué son importantes para Briar.
- Max Mehl, director de programación de la FSFE, y Albert Dengg, administrador de sistemas de la FSFE, participaron en la BalCCon con una charla sobre "¿Dinero Público? ¡Código Público!" y el taller "Libera tu Android".
- La FSFE mantuvo un stand en el NLLGG Software Freedom Day 2018 [17] en Utrecht, Holanda y en la FrOSCon [18] en St. Augustin, Alemania,
