Um das Vertrauen der Bevölkerung in die geplante Tracing-App zu stärken, soll der Quellcode der App für alle überprüfbar sein. Dies wurde gestern zwischen Merkel und den Ländern vereinbart. [1]
Damit wird unsere Forderung von Anfang April erfüllt. [2] Zuvor hatte man sich auch schon auf europäischer Ebene darauf geeinigt, dass die Apps als Freie Software zur Verfügung gestellt werden sollen. [3]
Unsere Bemühungen waren also durchaus erfolgreich. Allerdings müssen wir nun dafür sorgen, dass der Code auch vor der Veröffentlichung zur Verfügung gestellt wird und nicht erst danach, wie etwa in Österreich.
Ich möchte mich an dieser Stellen auch bei allen bedanken, die Mails geschrieben haben, auf Sozialen Netzwerken kommentiert haben oder anderweitig mit Entscheidungsträgern Kontakt aufgenommen haben. Auch wenn nicht immer alles 100% perfekt ist oder zuweilen länger dauert sieht man doch, dass unser Engagement wirkt. Vielen Dank!

für mich geht es nicht darum, ob die App Open Source ist oder nicht, es geht mir darum, daß sie eine Bedrohung meiner Freiheit ist und deshalb komplett abgelehnt werden muß.
Das sie zudem ihre angebliche Aufgabe nicht erfüllt, ist ein Nebenaspekt.

Hallo, solange man trotz der App möglichst anonym bleibt, was man dank offenem Quellcode kontrollieren kann, habe ich kein Problem mit dem App. Anders als die vielen Leute die protestieren und damit vermutlich für einen schönen zushause sorgen, bin ich noch keiner Verschwörungstheorei auf dem Leim gegangen. (Außer die langfristige Weltherschafft von Konzernen wie Microsoft und Facebook durch die Informationshohheit..., aber das ist was anderes ;) ) Die Allmachtsphantasien einiger Poltiker helfen ihnen da auch nichts. Kommt aber von Leuten, von denen so eine Gesinnung sowieso erwartbar war...

Zweifellos haben die vielen Microsoft-Nutzer zu Bill Gates Reichtum und Macht beigetragen, und somit auch zur Bill and Melinga Gates Stiftung aber wahrscheinlich ist er unter den Superreichen einen Glücksfall. Die aktuelle Frage ist jedoch, ob die Verwendung von Microsoftprodukten noch überhaupt etwas zur Gates-Stiftung und den aktuellen Aktivitäten beiträgt?

Interessant, daß auch hier die Verschwörungstheorie als Werkzeug zur Diskreditierung von Standpunkten verwendet wird. Aber dafür ist sie ja da.
Zu behaupten, die Gates-Foundation hätte *nicht* sehr großen Einfluß bei der WHO oder würde *nicht* beispielsweise Bevölkerungskontrolle anstreben, ist da eher die Verschwörungstheorie, die man durch kurze Suche im Netz widerlegen könnte. Ich nenne hier nur als Beispiel Herrn Gates Auftritt bei einer TED- Konferenz. Informationen finden sich aber auch z.B. hier: https://www.politico.eu/article/bill-gates-who-most-powerful-doctor/. Es wäre mal interessant zu wissen, was hier alles für Verschwörungstheorie gehalten wird. Das sollte aber an anderer Stelle besprochen werden.
Für mich ist jedenfalls eine App, die u.A. meine Gesundheitsdaten erfasst, nicht akzeptabel; ob offen oder proprietär.

Hallo, Gates-Foundation ist tatsächlich ein großer Spender, ja. Das kommt aber davon, weil die WHO Chronisch unterfinanziert ist. Wenn man nämlich mit knapp 10% der Spenden auf den zweiten Platz kommt, dann ist das schon traurig bei so etwas wichtigem wie der WHO.

Wäre es nicht endlich an der Zeit, daß die FSFE eine Aktion zur Befreiung der Haushalte , der Behörden, ... von Microsoft-Software startet? Oder beißt sich das mit den Interessen von Sponsoren.
Verschwörungstheorien sind für mich solange keine "Standpunkte" solange ich die Fakten dahinter vermisse!
Ja ich finde es auch zum Kotzen, dass wir es nicht anständig schaffen den Wohlstand auf die Bevölkerung ANSTÄNDIG aufzuteilen.
Aber solange wir das nicht gebacken bekommen finde ich es kontraproduktiv die in Misskredit zu bringen, die ihr Vermögen für gute Zwecke einsetzen. Ich zumindestens möchte nicht, dass das zur Folge hat, dass die Reichen immer reicher werden und gar nichts spenden....

Ich empfinde diese Aussage in ihrer Absolutheit als etwas einseitig. Ja, eine Tracing-App hat ein großes Potential relevante Teile des privaten Kernbereichs offenzulegen. Aber vieles wird hier von der konkreten Implementierung abhängen. Bei dem zentralisierten PEPP-PT Modell hätte es nicht geholfen, wenn die App FOSS gewesen wäre, da es eine zentrale Stelle zur Speicherung der Kontaktdaten vorsah. Bei dem jetzt angestrebten dezentralisierten Protokoll (DP-3T) ist es dagegen wichtig den Code zu haben, da nur so überprüft werden kann, ob alle behaupteten Eigenschaften auch wirklich vorhanden sind. Wem das nicht ausreichend ist -- denn ja, auch DP-3T kann keine 100%ig Anonymität garantieren -- kann sich immer noch dagegen entscheiden. Die strikte Freiwilligkeit der App-Benutzung (und viele andere Sicherheitskriterien) findet sich übrigens auch in den Richtlinien des European Data Protection Boards (EDPB) wieder:

Ich denke nicht, dass das ein Nebenaspekt ist: Die Effektivität der App Infektionsketten zu unterbrechen wird wahrscheinlich ein Kernpunkt in der öffentlichen Diskussion über die Verhältnismäßigkeit ihres Einsatzes sein. Die Effektivität ist aber nicht nur ein technisches Problem, sondern wird auch stark von der "Dunkelziffer" (infizierten Personen ohne klar wahrnehmbare Zeichen einer Erkrankung) bestimmt werden. Diese Zahlen sollten hoffentlich in den nächsten Wochen vorliegen.

Ich kann zwar nicht für die FSFE sprechen, derer ich nicht angehöre, aber meiner Erfahrung nach beißt sich das vor allem mit dem Entscheidungsträger sich mit der eigenen Infrastruktur zu befassen. Hinzu kommt eine gewisse "Ich habe dafür bezahlt also verwende ich es auch" Mentalität gemixt mit der fixen Vorstellung, dass ja die proprietäre Technologie die bessere sei. Was aus rein technischer sich in manchen fällen auch zutreffen könnte, wobei so was natürlich immer nur eine Momentaufnahme sein kann.

Aktuell die beste Möglichkeit dazu ist es wohl keine Videochats mit MS, Google, Apple, Zoom, usw. Software zu tätigen, sondern z.B. mit Jitsi Meet oder Big Blue Button.
Leider scheint der "Kampf" um Office-Produkte verloren: ich sehe überall MS Office 365, obwohl die Leute (inkl. Steuerzahler) dafür jedes Jahr teuer bezahlen müssen. In den etablierten politischen Parteien scheint das entsprechende Bewusstsein fast völlig verloren gegangen zu sein, auch wenn "Open Source" oft positiv besetzt ist, gerade beim Thema Corona-App.

Jupp. Wobei ich andererseits auch immer mal wieder nach Alternativen gefragt werde und mich extrem schwer tue, Sinnvolles zu empfehlen unter der Maßgabe, dass diesselben Anforderungen stehen, konkret:
- Anwendung läuft hinreichend verlässlich auf allen Systemen, idealerweise im Browser.
- Anwendung hat Chat, Video/Audio-Calls, Kalender, Office-Funktionalitäten integriert.
- Anwendung ist gern kostenpflichtig, läuft aber ohne eigenen IT-/Infrastruktur-Aufwand.
Ich kann immer Lösungen nennen, die *Teilaspekte* davon abdecken. O365 ist auch funktional weit weg davon, "perfekt" zu sein, aber bislang fehlt mir eine Lösung, die das, was O365 tut, in dieser Qualität und einfachen Verfügbarkeit tut.
Das zu lösen würde aus meiner Sicht neben Freier Software vor allem ein massives Investment in Freies / nachhaltiges Hosting erfordern. Erwartungshaltung: Es gibt einen Anbieter, über dessen Website ich idealerweisein 5min mit Kreditkarte für meine Firma, Organisation, ... ein O365-ähnliches System registriert und aktiviert bekomme und das dann für all meine Kollegen, Mitarbeiter, Nutzer, ... mit ausreichender Sicherheit funktioniert.
Können wir das derzeit? Was brauchen wir eventuell, um dorthin zu kommen? Sind wir schon an einem Punkt, wo wir Haushalte und Behörden von MS Office befreien und *trotzdem* arbeitsfähig halten können...?

Hier kommt der Sicherheitsaspekt dazu. Teilaspekte mit unabhängigen Programmen abzudecken ist weniger komfortabler als eine Gesamtlösung aus einer Hand, aber viel sicherer. Alle die schlimmen Trojaner der letzten Jahre lassen Open/LibreOffice User kalt schon nur weil MS-Office Makros da nicht lauffähig sind. Dafür sind dann Dokumenten, welche unbedingt Makros einsetzen, ohne Übersetzung nicht verwendbar. Wenn eine Umgebung alles macht, Email, Kontakte, Kalender, Dateiaustausch, Chat, Konferenzen, usw., braucht man sich nicht über gelegentliche Totalausfälle zu wundern.
Alles gleichzeitig kann man eben nicht haben. Für mich suche ich die jeweils optimalsten Teilaspekte, trotzt dem erhöhten Aufwand und dem Verzichten auf gewisse Dinge. Dafür hatte ich noch nie (bewusst) Sicherheitsprobleme.

"Sicherheit" gehört ganz klar zu den Anforderungen, die es zu definieren und klären gilt. Aber die sollte man definier- und auch irgendwie vergleichbar bekommen. Aus meiner Wahrnehmung passiert das zurzeit selten bis nie, dort dominieren eher Allgemeinplätze wie "Hauptsache nicht Google/Microsoft". Das ist nicht hilfreich, auch weil sich damit keine wirklich besseren Alternativen schaffen lassen.

Ich für meinen Teil meine: Vor "Cyber-Klein-Kriminalität" habe ich weit weniger Angst als (vor Patriot-Act-gebundener) "Cyber-Groß-Krininalität", die natürlich nie als solche bezeichnet wird - weswegen ich Datenschutz- und Sicherheitsdebatten immer wieder in einer argumentativen Sackgasse landen sehe, da beides selten auf der Grundlage von FLOSS diskutiert wird, sondern FLOSS allenfalls als Zusatz betrachtet wird.
Freiheit sollte in unserem Gesellschaftssystem *vor* Sicherheit kommen, nicht andersrum, was aber leider der Fall zu sein scheint. Beispiel aus dem Alltag des digitalen Semesters der Humboldt-Uni: "Warum soll Zoom ein Problem sein? Der Datenschutzbeauftragte der Humboldt-Uni hat gesagt, das sei alles soweit unbedenklich." -> IT-Sicherheit und Datenschutz "zertifizieren" sich die, vor denen ich mich fürchte, am Ende zurecht und gewonnen ist aus FLOSS-Perspektive überhaupt nichts.

Viele, die zu diesem Thema kommunizieren, argumentieren (zu Recht) mit Snowden und allem Verwandten, aber die Schlussfolgerungen sind mir teilweise zu fragwürdig. Nach wie vor etwa haben wir viel zu wenig Systeme, die wirklich konsequent (Meta)Daten, Nutzernamen, Kommunikation... verschlüsseln. Wir haben viel zu wenig Systeme, die schnelle und verlässliche Kollaboration und Datenhaltung erlauben, ohne Server zu benötigen. Wir haben viel zu wenig echt *vertrauenswürdige* Endgeräte-Systeme (auch bei Linux ist für Jane Doe das Vertrauen letztlich nur "Glauben", nicht "Wissen" oder gar einfache "Verifizierbarkeit" - spätestens "root" darf alles, und eigentlich reicht ein kompromittiertes Paket im Repository, das mit root-Rechten installiert und vielleicht betrieben wird, um verloren zu haben).
Deswegen würde mich hier Anforderungsanalyse und systematische Prüfung bestehender Systeme und Ideen gegen diese Anforderungen interessieren.

Da gehe ich mit, wobei auch die serverlosen Systeme nichts an der Vertrauensfrage ändern, die für mich die wichtigste der gesamten Debatte ist, allerdings nicht in der Form "Wem kann ich noch vertrauen?", sondern: "Wann, weswegen und warum haben wir verlernt, das Vertrauen ineinander derart zu missbrauchen?"
Fernab solcher Reflexionen habe ich in praktischer Weise die Grenze in der "Post-Vertrauens-Gesellschaft" durch die Frage gezogen, wo ich sinnvoll etwas zu zivilgesellschaftlich kontrollierbaren IT-Systemen beitragen kann: Bei Hardware gewiss nicht (weil wir Jahre davon entfernt sind, eigene, offene Hardware produzieren zu können), bei Software durchaus (weil es Freie Software in ausreichender Menge und Qualität gibt - jedenfalls für meine Anforderungen). Ich hoffe, dass die Standards, die wir heute durch FLOSS für Software einfordern, in 20 Jahren auch für Hardware gelten. FLOSS ist für mich der erste Schritt in diese Richtung.
Was nun Dienste im Netz betrifft halte ich es persönlich wie mit der Wahl zwischen einem Apfel, den mir ein Kleingärtner beim Spaziergang durchs Dorf anbietet und dem, was ich im Supermarkt geboten bekomme: Die Angebote im Supermarkt mögen Güte-Siegel in vielfacher Form haben. Wenn ich die Wahl habe gebe ich immer dem Kleingärtner den Vorzug, weil er für die Welt, in der ich leben möchte, auf jeden Fall etwas richtiger gemacht hat als die, die die Füllstoffe produzieren, die ich im Supermarkt bekomme.

Meine Frage zielte darauf ab, das etwas rationaler anzugehen, wie ich geschrieben hatte. Also:
- Welche Daten von mir liegen bei wem?
- Welche "dritte Partei" bekommt schlimmstenfalls Zugriff auf diese Daten?
- Was wären im schlimmsten Fall die Konsequenzen für mich, wenn das passiert?
- Wie wahrscheinlich ist, dass das passiert?
Einer der aus meiner Sicht negativen Aspekte aus den Snowden-Enthüllungen ist, dass es in weiten Teilen der Bevölkerung eine vergleichsweise pauschale, schlecht greifbare Angst vor einem "böswilligen Dritten" gibt, die nie wirklich hinterfragt wird. In meinem näheren Umfeld erlebe ich das gerade als ein "Element", das recht obskuren Verschwörungstheorien Auftrieb verschafft. Deswegen fände ich es gut, diese Themen durchaus mal im Detail zu betrachten.

Ich sagte auch nicht, dass es *leicht* ist. Aber ich sagte, dass es *geht. Siehe etwa Datenschutz und Twitter vs. "Mastodon/Fediverse": In ersterem Fall gibt es *eine* Firma, *eine* Organisation, die man im Zweifelsfall greifen und vor den Kadi zerren kann. In zweiterem Fal ist das ein Zusammenschluss von lose organisierten Individuen, die Dinge tun; unter Umständen erreichst Du nicht einmal alle Leute, die Du im Falle eines Missbrauches belangen müsstest, weil Du nicht weißt, wer hinter den Systemen steht.
Das Thema "Struktur/Rechtsabteilung" hat aber noch einen anderen Aspekt: Was glaubst Du, wer für Übergriffe durch "unerwünschte Dritte" ein leichteres Ziel ist - ein großer Konzern mit Strukturen und idealerweise transparenten Prozessen, in die in der Regel > 1 Mensch involviert sind? Oder ein Individuum, das allein und eigenverantwortlich einen Dienst pro bono betreibt?

Wenn Du aber das und das mit der "Post-Vertrauens-Gesellschaft" wirklich so ernst und schwarz/weiß meinst, wie es ankommt, dann darfst Du getrost aufhören, IT zu nutzen. Was nützt zivilgesellschaftlich kontrollierbare Software, wenn die Hardware, die Netzwerk-Ausrüstung, ..., auf der diese Software läuft, fest proprietäre und intransparent sind? Über den Umstand, dass FLOSS nur allzu oft Sponsoring und Beiträge von Herstellern proprietärer Software und Dienste beinhaltet, reden wir hier gar nicht erst.
Das Minimum, was man in einer "Post-Vertrauens-Gesellschaft" will, ist strenge Verschlüsselung aller Daten, die auf Hardware sind, die in irgendeiner Form mit Netzen in Berührung kommt, und vermutlich reicht dann nicht mal das - weil es erfordern würde, dass man der Qualität und Unbrechbarkeit der Verschlüsselung vertraut (wovon dann nicht auszugehen ist).
Ich seh das im Moment anders: Vertrauen ist immer relativ. Ich muss abwägen, wem ich wie weit vertraue, und mich auf dieser Basis entscheiden, wie viel über mich ich demjenigen offenlege. Im Analogen wie im Digitalen.

Zum einen siehe oben: Wie wahrscheinlich ist das? Geh davon aus, dass, wenn Du ein Julian Assange bist und es Institutionen oder ein Staat auf Dich abgesehen hat, Du in *jedem* Fall ein ernstzunehmenes Problem hast. Darüber hinaus widerspricht Deine Argumentation zum Kleinkriminellen vs. "Bank" ("ein paar Tage Ärger") zu 100% Deiner Herangehensweise oben, mit der Du meinen "happy path" zerlegt hast. Das, was Du hier ausführst, war nämlich im Blick auf die Konzerne und den Verweis auf deren Rechtsabteilung *exakt* mein Standpunkt. ;)

Hier funktioniert es ähnlich wie bei der IT, nur geht es stärker um Leben und Tod. Zunächst einmal sind es zwei Ebenen, erstens Bio versus Gift/Kunstdünger und zweitens lokal vs. industriell. Das erste wäre vielleicht FOSS vs proprietäre SW, das zweite analog lokale, selbstverwaltete IT vs Clouds der grossen Anbieter.
Wir haben zwei kleine Landwirte als Nachbarn. Der Nicht-Bio hat so einen Hofladen mit nützlichen Produkten, aber er vergiftet und verarscht uns teilweise (z.B. seine "Hofglace" (= Eis vom Bauernhof) mit einer auf der Verpackung gross abgebildeten Kuh, enthält Palmöl statt Rahm, wie in einer 3pt Schrift drauf steht.
Der Bio hat weniger und teurere Produkte, dafür schützt er den Boden und die Biodiversität und vergiftet uns kaum.
So weit geht die Analogie auf. Aber wir haben noch etwas drittes: einen Betrieb der solidarischen Landwirtschaft, wo wir selber mitmachen und mit-zahlen. Dieser ist Bio (sogar Demeter), produziert aber einen ähnlichen Ertrag wie konventionell, was aber mit viel Handarbeit verbunden ist. Permakulturbetriebe produzieren sogar höhere Erträge als konventionelle, pro Fläche und pro Energiezufluss, aber mit mehr Arbeit.
Das ist analog einer kleinen Organisationseinheit, die sich entscheidet mit FOSS zu arbeiten statt mit einer fremdverwalteten proprietären Komfortlösung eines der grossen Anbieter. Das erste ist scheinbar mühsam, tatsächlich aber effizient, das zweite scheinbar einfacher, tatsächlich aber ineffizienter, weil die Kosten eher versteckt und extern anfallen.
Ähnliche Analogien lassen sich für andere Gebiete aufstellen, z.B. Verkehr, Energie. Leider ist meine Erfahrung, dass die Anhänger der aus meiner Sicht besseren Alternativen dies meistens nur für ihr Gebiet so sehen, und nicht auch für die anderen. So sind z.B. gleichzeitige Linux-Bio-Solar-Fahrrad-Menschen relativ dünn gesät.

Ich erlebe das im Umfeld immer mal wieder mit Aktivisten, die sich vorrangig mit "Nicht-IT-Themen" beschäftigen und oft extrem locker die Tools von Google und Co. nutzen. Die Wahrnehmung dort ist immer diesselbe: Unlösbare große Herausforderungen, kritische Probleme, viel zu wenig Leute, die dafür aktiv werden und Zeit erübrigen können/wollen. IT bleibt dann "bloßes Werkzeug", das es eben braucht, um kommunizieren und arbeiten zu können - und damit ein Werkzeug, bei dem man das nutzt, das den wenigsten (Zeit-, Betriebs-, Einarbeitungs-, ...) Aufwand verursacht und auch für potentiell Mitstreitende die Einstiegshürde möglichst niedrig setzt. Das ist dann gern das billige Android-Tablet oder der gebrauchte Acer-Laptop mit der kleinsten denkbaren Windows-Version und allem, was dort eben vorinstalliert ist. Dort wird niemand alternative Apps oder Programme, geschweigedenn ein neues Betriebssystem installieren.
Dazu kommt beispielsweise, dass subjektiv in meinem Umfeld die Bio/Öko-Fraktion entweder gänzlich IT-feindlich aufgestellt ist ("Spielzeug, das nur Ressourcen verbrennt und niemand braucht") oder Apple nutzt ("weil das nachhaltiger ist, die Geräte nicht verramscht werden, länger genutzt werden können und Qualität wie auch bei Bio-Lebensmitteln nun mal ihren Preis hat").
Die eine Herausforderung ist, Prioritäten zwischen Aktivisten verschiedener Spezialgebiete auszugleichen. Das ist eine Baustelle für sich. Die andere aber (immer und immer wieder, hier wie andernorts) ist aus meiner Sicht die, Komfort, Zugänglichkeit, Nutzbarkeit, Verfügbarkeit, Geschwindigkeit von FLOSS-Lösungen eben nicht nur als dem Datenschutz und der Privatsphäre entgegengerichtetes lästiges Beiwerk zu betrachten, sondern als Kernanforderung, die über (Nicht-)Akzeptanz von Lösungen bei relevanten Zielgruppen entscheidet.

ich hätte natürlich alle detaillierteren Fragen voranstellen können, die mir seit 2013/Snowden so kamen, aber das wäre mindestens nicht im Sinne derer gewesen, die hier auf jedes Bit gucken (müssen). ;) Davon abgesehen sind wir uns wohl einig, dass eine etwas weiter gestellte Frage nicht gleich weniger rational ist. Jedenfalls meine ich, mich spätestens seit 2014 durchaus rational mit der Snowden-Thematik zu befassen, beginnend mit einer Veranstaltungsreihe an der HU Berlin, deren Ergebnisse in https://doi.org/10.18452/13663.2 flossen - was keine Leseempfehlung sein soll, da für meinen ersten "Öffentlichkeitsbeitrag" viel zu ambitioniert und fürchterlich umgesetzt, aber zumindest ein Indiz dafür, dass ich hier durchaus das eine oder andere gelesen habe, um mir eine ansatzweise fundierte Meinung gebildet zu haben.
Einer der aus meiner Sicht negativen Aspekte aus den Snowden-Enthüllungen ist, dass es in weiten Teilen der Bevölkerung eine vergleichsweise pauschale, schlecht greifbare Angst vor einem "böswilligen Dritten" gibt, die nie wirklich hinterfragt wird. In meinem näheren Umfeld erlebe ich das gerade als ein "Element", das recht obskuren Verschwörungstheorien Auftrieb verschafft. Deswegen fände ich es gut, diese Themen durchaus mal im Detail zu betrachten.
Uh, jetzt wird es unschön. Einigen wir uns darauf, dass wir gegenseitig keine "Verklammerungstaktiken" auf uns anwenden? Du kontextualisierst mich gerade in eine Ecke, mit der ich nichts zu tun habe. Die Snowden-Thematik hat für mich mit der Gates/Corona-Thematik jedenfalls absolut nichts zu tun.
Ja, alles schön ung gut, das "happy-path"-Argument lässt sich aber genauso gut umdrehen: Ich soll also im Zweifel besser dem Angebot von IT-Monopolist X vertrauen, weil der ja eine Rechtsabteilung hat, bei der ich mich notfalls beschweren kann?
Ich sagte auch nicht, dass es *leicht* ist. Aber ich sagte, dass es *geht.
Auch diesen Satz kann ich exakt so auf den "digitalen Kleinkriminellen" ohne Rechtsabteilung anwenden, dem ich auf den Leim gegangen bin. Du wirst jetzt evtl. denken "na dann viel Spaß dabei" und ich denke mir, wieviel Spaß ich hatte, bei großen Unternehmen meine Rechte geltend zu machen.
Siehe etwa Datenschutz und Twitter vs. "Mastodon/Fediverse": In ersterem Fall gibt es *eine* Firma, *eine* Organisation, die man im Zweifelsfall greifen und vor den Kadi zerren kann. In zweiterem Fal ist das ein Zusammenschluss von lose organisierten Individuen, die Dinge tun; unter Umständen erreichst Du nicht einmal alle Leute, die Du im Falle eines Missbrauches belangen müsstest, weil Du nicht weißt, wer hinter den Systemen steht.
Nehmen wir doch mal das "Fediverse" aus Geheimdiensten, das sich über "room 641a" ergibt. Macht es einen Unterschied, dass ich diese Instanzen juristisch adressieren kann? Ganz ehrlich: Da rechne ich mir mehr Erfolg zu, wenn ich die Polizei gegen Fediverse-Servicebtreiber X, Y und Z einschalte.
Das Thema "Struktur/Rechtsabteilung" hat aber noch einen anderen Aspekt: Was glaubst Du, wer für Übergriffe durch "unerwünschte Dritte" ein leichteres Ziel ist - ein großer Konzern mit Strukturen und idealerweise transparenten Prozessen, in die in der Regel > 1 Mensch involviert sind? Oder ein Individuum, das allein und eigenverantwortlich einen Dienst pro bono betreibt?
Ich ziehe den Publikums-Joker und frage ...Yahoo! ;)
Fernab solcher Reflexionen habe ich in praktischer Weise die Grenze in der "Post-Vertrauens-Gesellschaft" durch die Frage gezogen, wo ich sinnvoll etwas zu zivilgesellschaftlich kontrollierbaren IT-Systemen beitragen kann: Bei Hardware gewiss nicht (weil wir Jahre davon entfernt sind, eigene, offene Hardware produzieren zu können), bei Software durchaus (weil es Freie Software in ausreichender Menge und Qualität gibt - jedenfalls für meine Anforderungen).
Wenn Du aber das und das mit der "Post-Vertrauens-Gesellschaft" wirklich so ernst und schwarz/weiß meinst, wie es ankommt, dann darfst Du getrost aufhören, IT zu nutzen. Was nützt zivilgesellschaftlich kontrollierbare Software, wenn die Hardware, die Netzwerk-Ausrüstung, ..., auf der diese Software läuft, fest proprietäre und intransparent sind?
...unter Sicherheitsperspektive überhaupt nichts. Mir geht es aber nicht um "mehr Sicherheit", sondern um "mehr Freiheit". Die Sicherheitsdebatten finde ich nicht nur auf Grund der Tatsache, dass FLOSS hier kein Mindest-Kriterium ist, sinnlos, sondern auch, da stimme ich Dir vollkommen zu, weil wir als Zivilgesellschaft die digitale Infrastruktur(technik) gar nicht mehr kontrollieren können. Meine Hoffnung ist hier wie gesagt lediglich, dass sich die FLOSS-Debatte irgendwann gesellschaftlich in eine "Open Hardware-Debatte" übersetzt (begleitet von einer grundlegenden Gesellschaftskritik, was unser Wirtschaftssystem betrifft, daher danke für die Debatte im anderen Zweig dieser Diskussion zu "Software Libre"). Das "schwarz/weiß"-Denken zu nennen geht mir auch etwas zu sehr eine Richtung, sich gegenseitig zu "derailen".
Über den Umstand, dass FLOSS nur allzu oft Sponsoring und Beiträge von Herstellern proprietärer Software und Dienste beinhaltet, reden wir hier gar nicht erst.
Geschenkt - ich will gar nicht wissen, welche "Code-Abgründe" sich hier auftun. Nenn es naiv, aber ich klammere mich momentan daran, dass der Umstand, Code untersuchen zu *dürfen* zumindest einen qualitativen Unterschied bedeutet im Vergleich dazu, es nicht zu dürfen. Und ja, mir ist bewusst, dass ich im juristischen Bereich den qualitativen Unterschied nicht mehr sehe, weil mich die Realität hier mehrheitlich enttäuscht hat.
Das Minimum, was man in einer "Post-Vertrauens-Gesellschaft" will, ist strenge Verschlüsselung aller Daten, die auf Hardware sind, die in irgendeiner Form mit Netzen in Berührung kommt, und vermutlich reicht dann nicht mal das - weil es erfordern würde, dass man der Qualität und Unbrechbarkeit der Verschlüsselung vertraut (wovon dann nicht auszugehen ist).
Ne, wäre nicht meine Argumentation, weil dann Messenger wie WhatsApp kommen und sagen "hier habt ihr die Signal-Crypto, also alles gut". Das "Minimum" wäre für mich FLOSS als zwar allein nicht ausreichendes, aber notwendiges Kriterium für eine ansatzweise plausible Sicherheitsdebatte (womit Freiheit aber vor Sicherheit kommt, nicht andersrum).
Ich seh das im Moment anders: Vertrauen ist immer relativ. Ich muss abwägen, wem ich wie weit vertraue, und mich auf dieser Basis entscheiden, wie viel über mich ich demjenigen offenlege. Im Analogen wie im Digitalen.
Da sind wir uns einig. Du wägst halt "pro" in die eine Richtung ab, ich in die andere. Wir beide müssen dann mit den Konsequenzen leben. Ich in diesem Fall damit, dass mich der Kleingärtner eventuell mit dem Apfel vergiftet, weil ich ihm schon jahrelang auf die Nerven gegangen bin, ohne es gewusst zu haben.
Ich kauf' mein Gemüse und auch meine Kartoffeln auch gern auf dem Dorf beim Bauer nebenan, weil ich den lieber unterstützen möchte als Agrar-Konzerne und industrielle Landwirtschaft. Und ich *weiß*, dass der kein Bio-Bauer ist, dass er mit Düngemittel und Pestiziden arbeiten muss, weil er sonst nicht ansatzweise so viel Ertrag haben könnte, um auch nur mit einer schwarzen Null aus dem Jahr zu gehen. Auch hier ist die Welt nicht schwarz/weiß, gibt es verschiedene Prioritäten, nach denen man optimieren kann...
Wie gesagt: Von schwarz/weiß-Vorwürfen würde ich hier gerne absehen. Wenn meine Argumente nicht überzeugend sind, ist das völlig okay. Am Ende entscheidest Du aber auch nur mit "ja" oder "nein" und bist damit genauso "binär" wie ich angeblich "schwarz/weiß". Mit "der Kleingärtner macht für mich auf jeden Fall etwas richtiger" war jedenfalls genau das gemeint, was Du beschreibst. Was bei meiner Aussage das Wort "richtiger" bedeutete, sollte jede*r selbst entscheiden, aber ich dachte, das sei im Kontext des FLOSS-Vergleichs klar.

Nun, da Du fragst: Anfang Januar organisierte ich https://hu.berlin/HackingJustice/ und einer meiner Kollegen meinte einen Tag später zu mir, beim Verlassen der Fakultät von einer Person mit der Frage "Und Sie gehören wohl zu den Organisatoren?" angesprochen worden zu sein. Man hat mir gesagt, die 68er-Generation wisse, dass solche Fragen von einer ganz bestimmten Institution kommen, die sich gerne "unters Volk" mischt, wenn die zivilgesellschaftlichen Veranstaltungen nicht ganz so "systemkonform" sind. Das muss nichts heißen, aber war für mich ein Indiz, dass "soetwas" ganz schnell gehen kann. Wäre an der HU Berlin auch nicht das erste Mal (s. Andrej Holm).
Darüber hinaus widerspricht Deine Argumentation zum Kleinkriminellen vs. "Bank" ("ein paar Tage Ärger") zu 100% Deiner Herangehensweise oben, mit der Du meinen "happy path" zerlegt hast. Das, was Du hier ausführst, war nämlich im Blick auf die Konzerne und den Verweis auf deren Rechtsabteilung *exakt* mein Standpunkt. ;)
Dem kann ich nicht ganz folgen: Bei einem Kleinkriminellen habe ich ein paar Tage Ärger, wenn er mir das Konto leerräumt, weil jede Bank das bei halbwegs plausibler Argumentation sofort regelt (denn mit ihr habe ich mich ja nicht angelegt, sondern bin quasi ihr "Schützling"). Wenn ich mich hingegen mit einer großen Institution anlege, meinetwegen auch einer Bank, habe ich unter Garantie wochenlang Ärger und darf mich von einem Kundenbarter zum nächsten hangeln, der dann immer nicht weiß, worum es geht (zuletzt erlebt bei der Frage, warum und mit welchem Recht bei einer Auslandsüberweisung auf die andere Seite der Erde bei jeder "Zwischenstation" gefühlt 5€ abgezogen wurden - wobei ich da meiner Erinnerung nach sogar einen "Fünfer" zurückbekommen habe, weil die Ziel-Bank "plötzlich" einsah, dass das der "virtuelle Wegzoll" in diesem Ausmaß nun tatsächlich etwas zu weit ging, das aber "sicher nur ein Versehen war", man für meine Geduld danke und so weiter und so bla - das ist aber genau der Weg, den theoretisch zwar alle gehen können, 99% dies aber nicht tun werden, weil solche "Michael Kohlhass"-Aktionen am Ende ein Kosten/Nutzen-Verhältnis haben, das so viel Freude bereitet wie der Beschwerdeweg selbst, der sich nach "langsamer, qualvoller Erstickungstod" anfühlt).

ohne auf die Debatte zwischen Roland und Kristian im Einzelnen einzugehen, möchte ich folgende Anmerkung zu unserem Rechtssystem machen:
Daß große Unternehmen eine Rechtsabteilung haben, an die Du Dich wenden kannst, ist eine gefährliche Illusion. Diese Rechtsabteilungen sind NUR dazu da, Dich abzuwehren und für diesen Zweck verfügen sie über unbegrenzte Mittel. Diese Unternehmen lassen Datenschützer und Regierungen auflaufen, was erwartest Du für Dich?
Und selbst wenn Du nach 5+ Jahren einen Prozess gewinnen solltest, dann wird die rechtswidrige Praxis halt unter anderer Bezeichnung fortgesetzt. NOYB kann Dir erklären, wie das geht.
Gegenüber internationalen Großkonzernen sind wir alle machtlos, auch unsere Richter. Deine Illusionen spiegeln Dir ein Rechtssystem vor, das so nicht exisitiert.
Bei dem kleinen Fediverse-Betreiber reicht, wenn er/sie gutwillig ist, ein freundlicher Brief, um eine rechtswidrige Praxis abzustellen. Wenn er/sie böswillig ist, dann schreibt den Brief halt Dein Anwalt in weniger freundlichem Ton. Du kannst Datenschutzbeauftragte und Polizei losschicken und spätestens dann ist Schluß.

Und nein, es geht nicht darum, daß jede/r einzelne abwägt, wem er/sie vertraut. Auch nicht darum, ob man was zu verbergen hat oder nicht. Diese privatistische Argumentation übersieht die größeren Zusammenhänge.
Es geht darum, den kümmerlichen Rest unseres Rechtssystems und letztlich unserer Demokratie vor der völligen Zerstörung zu bewahren.
Ich gebe Roland in jedem Punkt recht. Er hätte die Diskussion nur gern mehr zuspitzen können.

dies ist eine sehr pessimistische Sicht der Dinge, die vielleicht manchen in die Resignation treiben könnte.
Die Bequemlichkeit fördern könnte sie auch, denn, wenn man ohnehin machtlos ist, kann und braucht man auch nichts zu unternehmen (gegen die internationalen Großkonzerne).
Die Geschäftsmodelle internationaler Großkonzerne prägen aber unseren Alltag - auch und gerade dann, wenn wir eine "Kontaktvermeidungsstrategie" fahren.
Die Frage ist, wie wir gleichwohl sozial und selbstbestimmt leben können. Und dazu bedarf es auch der aktiven und kritischen - also in Bezug auf Veränderungen optimistischen - Auseinandersetzung mit internationalen Großkonzernen.
Schaut man sich deren Aufstieg an, so wird man feststellen, dass sie anfänglich auch zunächst einmal klein waren, aber eine smarte Idee hatten und nützliche Leistungen anboten, welche eine entsprechende Nachfrage auslösten. Es ist auch nicht so - wir sind ja aufgeklärt - dass es im Hintergrund irgendeinen "Teufelspakt" gibt, der die Menschen, die dort arbeiten, zum Bösen treibt.

Was ich meinte: Deine Darlegung beinhaltete, dass Du Dich im Umgang mit dem "Kleinkriminellen" (siehe Bankräuber) implizit auf das Mitwirken von Institutionen und größeren Autoritäten (der Bank) verläßt - denen Du an anderer Stelle sehr explizit Dein Vertrauen entzogen hast. Mein größtes Problem mit Deiner Argumentation ist: Mir fällt es schwer zu verstehen, was Du eigentlich erreichen willst, weil Du (für meine Wahrnehmung) mäandrierst zwischen "Sicherheitsargumenten" (der Verweis auf Snowden und die Folgen), "Freiheit" (siehe hier) und der Frage nach der Unterstützung von Monopolisten und Industrie.
Die Diskussion begann mit Microsoft und Co. ... und der Punkt war: In bestimmten Bereichen macht Microsoft (wie auch Amazon oder Google) derzeit eher Hardware-Lieferanten als Software-Lieferanten oder FLOSS Konkurrenz: Auf Azure, AWS, ... kann ich mir mit wenig Aufwand, sagen wir, eine Debian-VM hochziehen, auf der ich NextCloud, Matrix, OnlyOffice baue, ein Login via root-ssh habe und dort nichtmal einen Vendor-Lock-In habe, weil ich (Abstraktions-Ebene VM respektive "unterhalb Betriebssystem") diese Dienste denkbar leicht auf anderen Anbieter (vielleicht DigitalOcean, Ionos, eine lokale Genossenschaft, eigenes Blech) umziehen kann.
Aus Sicht der Freiheit fehlt mir hier die Perspektive, wo mich das einschränkt - außer bei Connectivity (die ist aber privat auch black-box) und Hardware (die wir im Verlauf schon als proprietär und unkontrollierbar abgeschrieben hatten).
Aus Sicht von Vertrauen (*will* ich meine Daten, egal ob VM oder anders) bei Microsoft liegen haben??) oder Unterstützung von Monopolisten ("alle Welt nutzt AWS") sieht die Wertung gänzlich anders aus. Und ich scheitere daran, zu verstehen, was genau Deine Prioritäten sind, was Dein Ziel ist... ;)

OK, verstehe, danke für die Erklärung. Mit "pauschal" meinst Du evtl. Forderungen wie "Geheimdienste abschaffen!". Was Deine Forderung nach "reflektierter Kritik" betrifft habe ich folgende Gedanken: Es ist eine Herausforderung, den kümmerlichen Rest derer, die hier überhaupt ein Problem sehen, unter einem Motto auf die Straße zu bekommen, das reflektiert ist und von bisher Unbeteiligten hinsichtlich der komplexen Thematik verstanden werden kann. Beidem steht die Komplexität der Debatte erstmal entgegen, was natürlich keine Ausrede sein darf. Es war allerdings sicher einfacher, einen Konsens dafür zu finden, die "Stasi-Zentrale" zu stürmen, weil das "Feindbild" hier klarer war, was wiederum darauf zurückzuführen ist, dass das Regime sich klass. "hard power" bediente, weswegen es eindeutiger beschuldigt werden konnte. Neoliberale Regime sind im Vergleich dazu "smart" - sie "diffundieren" ihr handeln in kaum noch plausibel nachweisbare bzw. verstehbare Verantwortungszusammenhänge und verführen Freiheit anstatt sie zu unterdrücken (der Umstand, dass es Unternehmen gibt, bei denen man Graswurzelbewegungen kaufen kann (bspw. Burson-Marsteller), was sich dann "Astro-Turfing" nennt, hat für mich einen ganz neuen Blick auf die vielen "Frühlings-Bewegungen" der jüngeren Vergangenheit geworfen). Gegen verführte Freiheit hat unser psychologisches Immunsystem keine natürlichen Abwehrkräfte, weswegen ich den Begriff "Wutbürger" zwar immernoch völlig daneben, aber insofern etwas Wahres abgewinnen kann, als für mich "Wut" im Gegensatz zum "Zorn" selten ein bestimmtes Objekt hat (das in neoliberalen Systemen schwer zu identifizieren ist). Es liegt jedenfalls an denen, die meinen, mehr Durchblick zu haben, die berechtigten Objekte von den unberechtigten zu trennen und niedrigschwellig zu vermitteln ("Wut" also wenn dann in "Zorn" zu wandeln) - und hier wird es unspaßig, weil das richtig viel Arbeit bedeutet (und damit Zeit oder Geld kostet), die wir uns selten nehmen können (noch dazu vor dem Hintergrund, sich in Themen zu verrennen, die uns gesellschaftliche disqualifizieren können - vor Snowden war das, was Snowden offenbarte, ja etwas für "Aluhut-Träger*innen", das in keiner ernsthaften Debatte angesprochen werden konnte). Unter diesen Voraussetzungen finde ich es jedenfalls erstmal verständlich, warum einfache Wahrheiten so viel attraktiver sind als komplexe und empfinde als immense Herausforderung, einer Spaltung der Gesellschaft entgegenzuwirken, die irgendwie zwischen einfachen Wahrheiten auf der einen Seite und komplexeren, aber selten niedrigschwellig vermittelten, polarisiert ist. publiccode.eu ist für mich ein Beispiel wie es besser geht - es ist eine Meisterleistung, ein so komplexes Thema in nichtmal 5min zu vermitteln.

Was ich meinte: Deine Darlegung beinhaltete, dass Du Dich im Umgang mit dem "Kleinkriminellen" (siehe Bankräuber) implizit auf das Mitwirken von Institutionen und größeren Autoritäten (der Bank) verläßt - denen Du an anderer Stelle sehr explizit Dein Vertrauen entzogen hast. Das wirkt zumindest unentschlossen.
Achso, dann nochmal anders: Ilu hat es bereits prägnanter ausgedrückt als ich es konnte, aber kurz: Geht der juristische Einspruch "nach oben", wirkt das Rechtssystem meinem Empfinden nach nicht *für* mich, sondern *gegen* mich. Wir haben hier meiner Meinung nach ein System, das darauf ausgelegt ist, beständig "nach unten zu treten" (Außnahmen bestätigen die Regel, es muss ja alles den Eindruck behalten, dass es theoretisch auch in die andere Richtung geht - so in der Art wie "jede*r kann Millionär werden" den Anschein von "alle können Millionär werden" erwecken soll, damit die "Tellerwäscher*innen" brav weiter ihren Job machen).Der Punkt ist nun der, dass ich natürlich auf Banken angewiesen bin, weil ich in ein System, das auf Banken angewiesen ist, hineingeboren wurde. Ich habe durchaus mal gefragt, ob ich mein Gehalt auch bar empfangen darf mit dem Ziel, meine Miete etc. ausschließlich bar zu zahlen und dann erfahren, dass ich dafür unterschrieben habe, darauf zu verzichten, weswegen ich das Experiment "Recht auf Barzahlung" dann auf unbestimmte Zeit verschoben habe. Wenn mich "Cyber-Kleinkriminelle" ausrauben, nutze ich also die juristischen Mittel so wie sie "nach unten" gedacht sind (böse formuliert: den Pöbel von den kümmerlichen Ansätzen jener kriminellen Machenschaften abzuhalten, die sich eine Finanz-Elite mit Panama&Co ständig erlaubt). Das ist hat für mich weniger etwas mit Unentschlossenheit und mehr damit zu tun, "Kollaborateur" zu sein, weil ich hier den Umstand ausnutze, dass ein System den Anschein bewahren will, *allgemein* für Recht, Ordnung und Chancengleichheit zu sorgen. Das muss ich, um nur bei diesem Beispiel zu bleiben, so lange tun, bis ich einen Weg gefunden habe, mich von der Abhängigkeit von Banken zu lösen und trotzdem gesellschaftsfähig zu bleiben (denn auszuwandern ist keine Lösung, wohin auch, wenn jeder Flecken Erde bereits irgendeinem Herrschaftssystem gehört, das im Prinzip gleich tickt). Ich bin diesbezüglich für Vorschläge dankbar, die "entschlossener" sind. ;)
Mein größtes Problem mit Deiner Argumentation ist: Mir fällt es schwer zu verstehen, was Du eigentlich erreichen willst, weil Du (für meine Wahrnehmung) mäandrierst zwischen "Sicherheitsargumenten" (der Verweis auf Snowden und die Folgen), "Freiheit" (siehe hier) und der Frage nach der Unterstützung von Monopolisten und Industrie.
Ich gebe zu, dass "Snowden" für mich anfangs eine Sicherheitsdebatte war ("sicher sein vor Überwachung"). Mittlerweile ist für mich die dahinterliegende Problematik aber eine reine Freiheits- und Machtfrage: Wer kontrolliert den digitalen Raum? FLOSS ist für mich ein kleiner, wenn auch langfristig natürlich unzureichender Ansatz, diese Machtfrage zugunsten einer freiheitlichen Zivilgesellschaft zu klären.
Die Diskussion begann mit Microsoft und Co. ... und der Punkt war: In bestimmten Bereichen macht Microsoft (wie auch Amazon oder Google) derzeit eher Hardware-Lieferanten als Software-Lieferanten oder FLOSS Konkurrenz: Auf Azure, AWS, ... kann ich mir mit wenig Aufwand, sagen wir, eine Debian-VM hochziehen, auf der ich NextCloud, Matrix, OnlyOffice baue, ein Login via root-ssh habe und dort nichtmal einen Vendor-Lock-In habe, weil ich (Abstraktions-Ebene VM respektive "unterhalb Betriebssystem") diese Dienste denkbar leicht auf anderen Anbieter (vielleicht DigitalOcean, Ionos, eine lokale Genossenschaft, eigenes Blech) umziehen kann.
Aus Sicht der Freiheit fehlt mir hier die Perspektive, wo mich das einschränkt - außer bei Connectivity (die ist aber privat auch black-box) und Hardware (die wir im Verlauf schon als proprietär und unkontrollierbar abgeschrieben hatten).
Die Einschränkung erfolgt so lange nicht wie Du mit dem, was du auf der Hardware, die dir nicht gehört, ins Geschäftsmodell passt. Konzepte und Ideen, die sich diesen klassischen "Verwertungsimperativen" wirklich entziehen wollen, haben hier keinen Raum (schon allein deswegen, weil sie die Dienste evtl. nicht bezahlen können) - sollen sie auch nicht in einer Gesellschaft, die mit "Freiheit" im Zweifel immer erstmal eine "Freiheit des Marktes" meint. Solange man sich in dieser Freiheit arrangieren kann ist das sicher keine Einschränkung. Der Punkt ist, was passiert, wenn man sich mit dieser Freiheit plötzlich nicht mehr arrangieren kann. Dann ist die Kette bereits fest installiert.
Aus Sicht von Vertrauen (*will* ich meine Daten, egal ob VM oder anders) bei Microsoft liegen haben??) oder Unterstützung von Monopolisten ("alle Welt nutzt AWS") sieht die Wertung gänzlich anders aus. Und ich scheitere daran, zu verstehen, was genau Deine Prioritäten sind, was Dein Ziel ist... ;)
Gut gefragt, denn die Frage ist in dieser Form weniger geschlossen als die, mit der viele von uns sicher aufgewachsen sind ("Was willst du denn später mal werden?") und lässt die meiner Meinung nach viel sinnvollere Frage zu, die Menschen gestellt werden sollte: "Welches Problem möchte ich helfen, in der Welt zu lösen?" - und hier wäre meine Antwort: Jede Generation musste sich vor der nachfolgenden für ein bestimmtes Versagen rechtfertigen. Klassisches Beispiel: Unsere Großeltern vor unseren Eltern bezüglich des 3. Reiches. Jemand mit Eltern aus der ehem. DDR könnte sie vielleicht fragen, warum sie eine historisch einmalige Chance auf eine neue Freiheit für 100 Mark Begrüßungsgeld verkauft haben. Eine Frage, die ich von der nachfolgenden Generation an mich erwarte, ist: Wie konntet ihr zulassen, dass der digitale Raum in seiner ursprünglichen Form wie Snowden sie beschreibt ("creative and cooperative, rather than commercial and competitive" [1]) zu einem Raum des Überwachungskapitalismus wurde und ihr eure Häuser freiwillig mit Alexa verwanzt, wenn eure Eltern vorher die Stasi-Zentrale gestürmt haben oder gegen die Volkszählung demonstrierten? Snowden war für mich persönlich nur ein Augenöffner für die eigentliche Machtfrage um Kontrolle von Menschen, die dahinter steht. Ich möchte jedenfalls vor der nachfolgenden Generation sagen können, alles getan zu haben, um diese Entwicklung zu verhindern.
Auf jeden Fall gerät der Freiheitsgewinn von FLOSS hier an seine Grenzen, weil FLOSS auch nur ein Mittel wird, User an sich zu binden (danke für Deinen Input diesbezüglich, der mir diesen Umstand konkretisiert hat). An diesem Punkt befindet sich gerade mein Versuch, weiterzudenken (ich denke bspw. aktuell darüber nach, welche Parallelen es zur Entwicklung des digitalen Raumes zur Industrialisierung im 18. Jh. gibt, die meines Wissens mit einer Privatisierung des Allmende-Besitzes einherging, was die Menschen damals in jene Abhängigkeit von Industruiellen trieb, die Ähnlichkeit zu jender Abhängigkeit von IT-Monopolisten hat, in der sich Menschen heute befinden). Keine Ahnung, wo es hinführt, die Diskussion hier ist auf jeden Fall aber sehr bereichernd.

Ja. leider hat die OpenSource Gemeinschaft hier keine taugliche Antwort - wir nutzen als Planungsbüro seit vielen Jahren OpenSource bis hin zu Linux auf dem Desktop - leider gibt es da gerade im Office-Bereich kaum eine nennenswerte Weiterentwicklung! Zu unserem Glück können die meisten Marktteilnehmer die Möglichkeiten die MS Office bietet nicht ansatzweise nutzen, meist auf Grund mangelnder Qualifikationen der Anwender. Und leider gibt es in unserem Bereich immer noch eine viel zu große Lücke bei den Fachanwendungen bis hin zum vernünftigen Umgang mit pdf-Dateien. Wer bspw. mit großen in CAD Software erzeugten PDF-Plänen umgehen muss (Dateigrößen deutlich über 10MB), der findet unter Linux nichts was diese Funktion auch nur annähernd so beherrscht wie ein Adobe Reader bzw. Acrobat unter Windows. Auch für die Erstellung und Verarbeitung von GAEB-Dateien (elektronische Ausschreibungen, heute Standard!) gibt es unter Linux nichts. Da muss man sich mit Online-Krücken behelfen oder eben wieder die Virtualbox mit Windows anwerfen! Gleiches bei Fachsoftware im Brandschutz, CAD Programmen (wir nutzen unter Linux Bricscad, das kommt AutoCad am nähesten ist aber dennoch Meilenweit davon entfernt und dennoch nicht billig). Hydraulikprogramme etcpp Es ist echt nicht einfach der offenen Software die Treue zu halten im Arbeitsalltag! :-( Von einem "befreien von Office bzw. Microsoft" sind wir daher nach wie vor Lichtjahre entfernt! Da hat sich in den letzten 10 Jahren nichts drann' geändert! Leider!

Siehe etwa das wiederkehrende Thema Kalender und Termine: Ich will (im Home-Office...) eine Video-Konferenz anlegen und dafür eine Zeit suchen, zu der alle Zielkandidaten "verfügbar" sind. Mit Teams und "integrierten" Lösungen ist das einfach.
Darüber hinaus wird das echt eng. Gegenwärtig sind durch die schnelle Flucht ins Home-Office viele Unternehmen auf Teams und O365 gewechselt, und zumindest bei uns hier ist das im Blick auf die Endanwender nahezu reibungslos (im Sinne von "ohne großen Schulungs-, Erklärungs- oder Administrationsbedarf") durchgelaufen. Mit den offenen Lösungen, die ich bislang dafür genutzt habe, scheiterte das schon an dieser Status-Abfrage ("warne mich, falls $KONTAKT im fraglichen Zeitfenster schon blockiert ist"); von Integration für Video- oder Audio-Konferenzen und vielleicht in diesen Konferenzen noch halbwegs robustem Screensharing und Mitführen von kollaborativ bearbeitbaren Notizen reden wir dort noch gar nicht. Konsequenz wäre hier bei einer selbst gehosteten Lösung: *Erheblich* mehr Aufwand für eine potentiell erheblich holprigere Arbeitsumgebung. Und viele Organisationen haben derzeit ohnehin schon keine Kraft, Dinge zu stemmen, die *wenig* IT-Aufwand erfordern...

Ersterem stimme ich zu. Dem "bisschen Komfort" nicht. Das ist leider ein Standardproblem, an dem viele FLOSS-Lösungen scheitern: Die werden oft von Experten propagiert, die (im Extremfall, so wie ich) auf dem Terminal unterwegs sind, seit Jahren diese Welt kennen und die kein Problem damit haben, Komfort zugunsten von Sicherheit zu opfern, weil sie trotzdem noch handlungsfähig bleiben (auch wenn es gelegentlich wehtut und manchmal nervt).
Aber das ist privilegiert. "Das bisschen Komfort" ist für die überwiegende und immer größer werdende Mehrheit der Nutzer die Entscheidung, Technik überhaupt verwenden zu können.

Und, mit Verlaub: Das ist ein offensichtliches und nachvollziehbares Feature insbesondere für Firmen-Einsatz. Das funktioniert im Exchange/Outlook-Umfeld seit mindestens 15 Jahren. Warum nur dort? Warum nicht über offene Standards mit offenen Werkzeugen - oder über einen Dienstleister, von dem ich so etwas "auf Zuruf" (Firmenname + Kreditkarte) kaufen kann, in einer Situation wie Lockdown?

Als ich das noch nötig hatte, konnte ich sowohl mit Korganizer als auch mit Lighting/Firefox/Thunderbird mit Outlook-Kalendern synchronisieren. Vielleicht geht es noch.

... und das ist nur ein Teilaspekt und eben auch nur etwas, was "nervig", aber weiterhin möglich ist (weil Du imstande bist, das Problem zu verstehen und eine andere Lösung zu finden). Jane Doe hilft sich genau so und nutzt auf ihrer Verständnisebene für die Probleme genau die Lösungen, die ihr dort einfallen. Das ist aber eben 10k Fuß weiter oben, von der Flughöhe her. Entsprechend ist klar, welche Lösungen dort in Betracht kommen.
Als ich das noch nötig hatte, konnte ich sowohl mit Korganizer als auch mit Lighting/Firefox/Thunderbird mit Outlook-Kalendern synchronisieren. Vielleicht geht es noch.
*Synchronisation* von Kalendern ist erstmal kein Thema. Was ich meine, ist das Feature von "geteilten" Kalendern und die Erwartungshaltung an den Client: Gib mir ein Zeichen, wenn ich "jemanden" aus meiner Organisation zu einem Termin einladen will, zu dem die Person schon verplant ist. Das hab ich im Thunderbird und auch im Evolution bislang noch nie hinbekommen - auch weil dort im "offenen Umfeld" die Komplexität beliebig groß ist: Verschiedene Server-Implementationen, die sich unterschiedlich verhalten. Verschiedene Clients, die Standards verschieden deuten.

...Wer bspw. mit großen in CAD Software erzeugten PDF-Plänen umgehen muss (Dateigrößen deutlich über 10MB), der findet unter Linux nichts was diese Funktion auch nur annähernd so beherrscht wie ein Adobe Reader bzw. Acrobat unter Windows.
Ich finde das Gegenteil. Zwar gibt es einige Dinge, die gehen nur mit Acrobat, aber sehr gut gelingen auch diese nicht unbedingt. Je nach Art des PDFs gibt es bessere, freie, oder einfachere Alternativen.
Soll nur ein bisschen auf einzelnen Seiten geändert werden, ohne das Dokumentlayout zu ändern, ist z.B. Libre Office Draw Spitze.
Für blosse Anmerkungen gibt es diverse Programme.

Und gerade in Haushalten, Schulen, und bedingt Behörden wäre eine breite Kompetenz mit öffentlicher Software wichtig.

Zu den vorgeschlagenen Programmen für PDF Bearbeitung: Die kenne ich alle, habe alles hoch und runter probiert, ja, anzeigen kann man PDF unter Linux mit vielen Programmen. Doch werden die Dateien größer und komplexer, dann trennt sich sehr schnell die Spreu vom Weizen! Wie signierst Du bspw mit LO Draw oder Gimp PDF Dateien? Kann man dort vorgegebene PDF Stempel importieren? Gibt es vernünftige Maßwerkzeuge in Gimp oder LO-Draw. Nein. Wir sind wirklich schon >10 Jahre auf de Suche und das einzige was halbwegs gut funktioniert ist das PDF Studio von Qoppa, allerdings kostenpflichtig und Java basierend. Es nützt auch nichts wenn das eine Programm kann und das andere das und das nächste jenes.......wenn es eine Software gibt die diesen Workflow verbindet weil sie halt alle Funktionen brauchbar abdeckt, dann spart mir das viel Zeit, und Zeit ist heutzutage das teuerste im Geschäft überhaupt! Umständliches hin und her frickeln in zig verschiedenen Programmen ist nicht zeitgemäß und nicht effektiv.

MS-Makros sind allerdings wohl das schlimmste Sicherheitsrisiko überhaupt, bzw. zwingt zur extremen Vorsicht, Virenscannen usw.
LO "zerschiesst" nicht Dokumente. Was meistens passiert, ist dass die proprietären MS-Schriften auf einem Linux-System nicht installiert sind und im Dokument mit sehr ähnlichen freien Schriften ersetzt werden. Die Grössen und Abstände können aber dann ganz minim differieren, und je nach Dokument reicht das, um z.B. einen anderen Seitenumbruch zu generieren, was das Layout total ändern kann. Wer das weiss, kann die MS-Schriften nachinstallieren, oder mit wenigen Anpassungen das Layout wieder herstellen. Ich verschicke aus diesem Grund immer PDF-Dokumente, wenn das Layout wichtig ist, und sonst auch gerne HTML.

Umständliches hin und her frickeln in zig verschiedenen Programmen ist nicht zeitgemäß und nicht effektiv.
Trotzdem stelle ich fest, dass ich mit meinen Gefrickel in zig verschiedenen Programmen viel effektiver arbeiten kann als viele meiner Kollegen mit entweder ihren Standard- oder teuren Profi-Programmen.
Eine eventuelle Ausnahme, die zu diesem Thread passt: Ich verwende die Online Text- und TabellenSoftware Google Docs nur wenn ich muss (z.B. den geringsten gemeinsamen Nenner, um gleichzeitig gemeinsam an Dokumenten zu arbeiten, sofern man ein Google-Konto akzeptiert). Sie ist einfach sehr gut. Jedes mal wenn ich eine freie Alternative ausprobiere, geht sie nicht. Ich hoffe also sehnlichst, dass die Entwickler das mal schaffen.

kannst du in ein paar einfachen Worten etwas in diese Thematik eingehen und zum Beispiel ausführen welche Pakete ich installieren muss um die Schriftarten zu bekommen oder wo ich weiterführende Informationen zu dem Thema finden kann das Layout auch ohne die MS Schriftarten wieder sauber herstellen zu können?

Ilu hat schon wegen den Fonts geantwortet. Sonst weiss ich es nicht so genau, ausser dass du folgendes machen kannst, in Reihenfolge des Aufwands:
- Schriftart wechseln (für ganzes Dokument falls nur eine Schriftart).
- Beim Format Seite die Ränder, evtl. auch Kopf- und Fusszeilen verändern.
- Schriftgrösse für den Stil Standard oder Textkörper um 0.5-1 pt ändern (meistens verkleinern), oder auch bei anderen Stilen.
- Beim Format Absatz, Abstände und Einrückungen, den Zeilenabstand auf Proportional ändern, und da z.B. auf 95% oder 105%.
- Beim Format Absatz, Abstände und Einrückungen, die Abstände Vor oder Nach verstellen. (Für einzelne Leerzeilen reicht es auch, einige Leerzeichen einzufügen und deren Grösse zu verändern.)
- Beim Format Zeichen, Rotation / Skalierung, Breite Skalieren von 100% abändern.
- Beim Format Zeichen, Abstand, von Standard auf Gesperrt oder Schmal wechseln und vorsichtig anpassen.

Ich gehe das Thema noch einmal aus meiner Perspektive an. Offensichtlich gibt es hier einige Leute, die sicher die Schwierigkeiten für Betriebe richtig beschreiben, das bezweifele ich gar nicht.
In meinem *privat* Haushalt verwenden meine Frau und ich nur Freie Software (Mint und Kubuntu), in meinem Umfeld sehe ich wenige Personen, die das nicht auch könnten. In Mülheim an der Ruhr haben wir inzwischen mehr als 300 Rechner von Microsoft befreit, aber dennoch sicherlich noch keine kritische Masse erreicht. Es wäre sicher mehr möglich gewesen, wenn die FSFE das zu ihrer Kampagne gemacht hätte.
Ich habe lange Jahre bei Bezirksregierung Düsseldorf als Dezernent gearbeitet. Für keine meiner Aufgaben wäre proprietäre Software nötig gewesen. Das Hausnetz wurde meiner Erinnerung nach auf Linux-Basis betrieben. Das Innenministerium hat aber vorgegeben, daß Microsoft Software für die Büroarbeiten eingesetzt werden *muß*. Hilfreich dafür war sicherlich ein Besuch von Herrn Gates beim Ministerpräsidenten NRW.
Das Alles spricht doch wohl für eine Kampagne. Die FSFE bejubelt aber lieber die Demontage von Stallman, statt sich gegen den Epstein-Freund Gates zu richten. Ich frage mich, warum.

In den etablierten politischen Parteien scheint das entsprechende Bewusstsein fast völlig verloren gegangen zu sein, auch wenn "Open Source" oft positiv besetzt ist, gerade beim Thema Corona-App.

die Kampagne der FSFE zu diesem Thema heißt "Public Money, Public Code". Dieser Slogan beschreibt den aktuellen Arbeitsschwerpunkt der FSFE und ist mittlerweile überall in der Politik angekommen. Die meisten Leute, die von "Public Money, Public Code" reden, wissen allerdings nicht einmal, daß das eine Initiative der FSFE ist, sondern halten das für ihre eigene schlaue Idee. Gut so!
Es gibt mittlerweile in mehreren Bundesländern verbindliche Festlegungen für FOSS. An der konkreten Umsetzung hapert es allerdings noch in allen Bundesländern. Verwaltungsmühlen mahlen langsam. Die FSFE bietet Unterstützung. In meinem Bundesland sieht man deutliche Erfolge.
Initiativen der FSFE, die sich an Privatanwender richteten, hatten in der Vergangenheit wenig bis gar keinen Erfolg. Schön, daß Du Dich in Deinem privaten Umfeld da erfolgreich engagierst, aber für die FSFE sind Privatanwender praktisch nicht zu erreichen.
Die FSFE engagiert sich erfolgreich FÜR freie Software. Es gibt überhaupt keinen Grund, in diesem Zusammenhang GEGEN irgendwen zu agieren, schon gar nicht gegen Personen. Auch nicht gegen Bill Gates. Deine Unterstellung "Oder beißt sich das mit den Interessen von Sponsoren." ist völlig daneben.
Im übrigen scheint auch Microsoft seine unternehmerische Zukunft in freier Software (als SaaS) zu sehen. Ich gebe dem Betriebssystem Windows noch 5 Jahre. Auch unter diesem Aspekt lohnt sich ein Agieren GEGEN Windows nicht, Totkranke soll man nicht treten.
Und Stallman und Epstein haben damit überhaupt nichts zu tun. Wir müssen uns nicht jeden US-amerikanischen Streit aufhalsen, damit sollen die da selbst fertig werden.

Evtl. wird man immer experienteller mit Kundengängelung und Datenaquise. Windows 10 macht das ja schon für Privatkunden sehr schlau. Die Erstellung eines offline Kontos ist ja mittlerweile zu einem "Findet Waldo" Spiel ausgeartet. Ich rechne damit, dass in kürzester Zeit fest alle einen Microsoft Account haben. Das wird wiederum dazu führen, dass der Besitz desselben wie bei WhatsApp als Selbstverständlichkeit angesehen wird und das wird wiederum Microsoft Online Dienste pushen, weil ja sowieso jeder einen Account besitzt.

Jedes Windows10 Update ist zu einer zitterpartie für Privatanwender verkommen. Wird alles als Gottgegeben angesehen...
Was z.B. in einer Behörde letztens aufkam: "Wieso sind eigentlich die Windows Server so gesprächig zu Microsoft, ich dachte wir hätten das geblockt?" "Ja bei den Windows 10 Pro Rechner haben wir die relevanten nti- Tracking regeln eingestellt, das gilt aber nicht für Server"
Und was würde wohl tatsächlich bei einer Windows abküdnigung passieren? Man kennt es von jedem Windows Wechsel: Es wird richtig Geld in die Hand genommen für einen extendend support. => Rettungspaket für das arme Microsoft bei Abkündigung von Windows.

Ich erlebe das anders: MS geht mit Azure und den Online-Diensten in einen Markt, in dem sie eher kleineren und mittleren RZ-Providern und Systemhäusern das Wasser abgraben. Insofern wäre es *noch* wichtiger, vergleichbare Offerten von lokalen (DE, EU), unabhängigen Dienstleistern zu bekommen, aber in derselben Qualität und derselben einfachen Zugänglichkeit (Account registrieren, Firma anlegen, Kreditkartendaten hinterlegen und los - die halbe Stunde, die im Corona-Lockdown etliche Firmen in meinem Umfeld "in die Cloud gebracht" hat). Deswegen hat man derzeit auch, wenn man Datenschutz, digitale Unabhängigkeit, ... propagiert, einen eher schlechten Stand.

Ja. Genau das.
Und dort bin ich ehrlich gesagt extrem resigniert. Diese Diskussion ist so alt wie die Nacht, die habe ich mit unseren Kunden schon zu Windows NT - Zeiten diskutiert: Gruppenrichtlinien. Wir wollen einmal zentral für alle Nutzer konfigurieren, wie die Clients aussehen, was sie auf ihren Desktops (nicht) dürfen, wann der Rechner bei Inaktivität gesperrt wird, welche Netzlaufwerke verfügbar sind, ... . Das geht in aktuellen Windows-Umgebungen recht gut und integriert (wenig überraschend natürlich umso besser, je mehr der Stapel "rein Microsoft" ist - einen Firefox etwa kannst Du auch unter Windows auf diese Weise schlecht administrieren, weswegen er in vielen Microsoft-Umgebungen schlicht nicht verfügbar ist). Auf Linux geht es "auch irgendwie", aber bislang habe ich noch keine Umgebung gesehen, die es annähernd mit der Integration und dem Tooling einer "Microsoft-only" - Welt aufnehmen kann. :|
Um das Problem zu lösen, bräuchte es wohl sehr viel mehr Commitment zu "public money, public code" - bis hin zu Client- und Server-Systemen für die öffentliche Hand. Aber es bräuchte auch in der FLOSS-Community endlich mal ein Commitment, solche (wie gesagt seit langem immer wieder vorgetragenen) Argumente wegzubekommen. Das wäre bedeutend wichtiger, als zwei Dutzend marginal verschiedene Linux-Distributionen, ein halbes Dutzend mehr oder weniger gute Linux-Desktop-Umgebungen, ... zu haben.

Das Innenministerium hat aber vorgegeben, daß Microsoft Software für die Büroarbeiten eingesetzt werden *muß*. Hilfreich dafür war sicherlich ein Besuch von Herrn Gates beim Ministerpräsidenten NRW.
Das Alles spricht doch wohl für eine Kampagne. Die FSFE bejubelt aber lieber die Demontage von Stallman, statt sich gegen
den
Epstein-Freund Gates zu richten. Ich frage mich, warum.

ich habe Dir (und der Liste) zum Thema "Politik" ausführlich am 11.5. geantwortet und werde das nicht noch einmal wiederholen. Und natürlich ist das auch eine technische Frage.
Zum Thema "Haushalte": Das funktioniert bestens für alles außer Gaming und wer das bei sich und seinen Bekannten nicht auf FOSS umstellt, der will eben nicht - oder in der Familie wird gespielt, meiner Erfahrung nach der häufigste Grund. Was willst Du da diskutieren? Gaming auf Linux? Da geht es nur am Rande um FOSS und Gaming ist sicher nicht die Kernkompetenz der FSFE. Zum Thema "Haushalte" sehe ich keinen Diskussionsbedarf.

Es wäre denke ich einfacher, wenn sich die Community auf eine Standarddistribution einigen könnte. Für mich kommt da am ehesten Ubuntu LTS infrage, Gnome Desktop, Beim Linuxtreff in Mühlheim an der Ruhr sinds dann schon ein paar andere Ubuntus [1], aber vermutlich (?) liegt die Betreuung der gesamten Ubuntu/Debian Familie noch im machbaren Bereich.
In Behörden ist die Distribution ja einfach vorgegeben, das geht bei Haushalten nicht.

Es ist beides, aber hauptsächlich braucht es einen starken Willen, da die etablierten Kräfte voll auf der Seite von Microsoft, Apple, Google usw. sind. Wenn man kein günstiges Umfeld hat, müssen eine starke politische Motivation oder ein rebellischer Geist (oder etwas Vernunft ;-) ) vorhanden sein. Wer wirklich will, der oder die schafft das. Und wer nicht wirklich will, dem genügt ein kleines Hindernis, um bei MS usw. zu bleiben.

Genau das, leider. Mit den fast 24 Jahren, die ich jetzt versuche, Linux-Desktops für nicht-technische Privat- und professionelle Fachanwender interessant zu machen, ist das leider auch vollständig meine Erfahrung. :(
Dazu kommt, meist noch einen Schritt vorher: Viele sind nicht nur in der Lage, ein "OS zu installieren", sondern haben keinerlei Idee, was das genau bedeutet und welchen Vorteil das ihnen bringt - nach wie vor ist der mit Windows vorinstallierte PC der Regelfall. Daran etwas zu ändern, braucht erst einmal eine Motivation durch Menschen im Umfeld, die problemsensibel sind. Und diejenigen, die es probieren, erleben dann (in Situationen wie jetzt), dass die Kinder im Home-Schooling Aufgaben in .docx und .xlsx bekommen, "weil das alle haben" - und stellen im Diskurs mit der Elternschaft drumherum fest: Ja, das *haben* in vielen Fällen tatsächlich auch alle außer ihnen (genau diese Diskussion hatte ich gestern erst wieder). Im schlimmsten Fall hast Du dieser Tage Nutzer, die mit einem Microsoft-Account auch Dinge wie OneDrive und Speicher "in der Cloud", Kalender, E-Mail haben - und dann schnell merken, dass mit FLOSS-Desktop und LibreOffice das nicht unbedingt inclusive ist - es sei denn, sie nutzen dort den ganzen Microsoft-Kram weiter, aber welchen Grund sollten sie dann für einen Wechsel haben...?
Die Annahme, dass FLOSS im Haushalt nur eine Frage des Wollens ist, scheint mir genau so kurz gesprungen wie die Idee, wir könnten den Klimawandel stoppen, wenn wir nur für die Fahrt zum Bäcker das Fahrrad statt des Pkws nutzen. :|

Meine Erfahrung mit Privathaushalten (zugegebenermaßen überwiegend Familien) ist eine etwas andere:
1. Es wird benutzt, was vorinstalliert ist. Das Problem ist bekannt, aber für irgendwelche Installationsabenteuer sind weder Zeit noch Nerven vorhanden. Auf das (Nicht)Vorhandensein von Kompetenz kommt es überhaupt nicht an. 2. Wenn Anwendungssoftware fehlt, nimmt man gerne FOSS, denn die kostet nichts (konkret: LOffice und Gimp). 3. Die Schule benutzt FOSS, die Schüler ärgern sich, denn FOSS ist keine Edelmarke und also uncool. 4. Kinder/Jugendliche wollen Windows, denn auf Linux laufen aktuelle Spiele nicht. 5. Ich kenne im Privatbereich niemanden, der zur Wartung eine Firma beauftragt oder das auch nur in Erwägung ziehen würde. Im Notfall machen das die Kinder/Enkel und die nehmen Windows.
"Mangelnde Kompetenz" ist eine Ausrede für "Keine Zeit" und "ich oder meine Kinder zocken". Und das sind zwei ernstzunehmende sachliche Gründe, gegen die es derzeit kein Argument gibt.
In diesem Szenario kann man nur bei den Schulen (d.h. bei den Landesregierungen und Kommunen) ansetzen, wie es die FSFE bereits tut. Solange Windows vorinstalliert verkauft wird und Spiele unter Linux nicht laufen, ist im Privatbereich für die FSFE nichts zu holen.

- Die absolut überwiegende Mehrheit nutzt Tablets oder Smartphones, auch hier mit dem, was vorinstalliert kommt (wobei hier die Hürde davon weg auch merklich höher ist), im Moment auch mal improvisiert mit Bluetooth-Keyboard und MS Office für Android zum Lernen / "Arbeiten. Das - konkret dabei Smartphones - sind auch die Dinge, über die Status und "Coolness" definiert wird, vorrangig dabei die Oberklasse der Android-Geräte.
- Diejenigen, die zocken, tun das auf Smartphones oder auf Spielekonsolen, vorrangig Nintendo Switch und PS4. Ich kenne nur eine sehr kleine Handvoll von Leuten, die auf PCs spielt, und die passen eher in die "Nerd-Schublade". Was ich im Übrigen auch spannend finde: Die Kinder gucken immer mal irgendwelchen YouTube-Gamern mit sehr schwerem Equipment zu, aber Ambitionen, so eine Kiste zu Hause stehen zu wollen, ist zumindest in meinem Umfeld extrem gering, warum auch immer.
- Schulen und Firmen sind hier nahezu ausnahmslos sehr fest in der Hand von Microsoft. Windows ist sowieso gesetzt, die Kinder lernen Word, Excel, PowerPoint zu bedienen und begrifflich als Synonym für die jeweilige Art von Werkzeug zu verwenden. FLOSS passiert *allenfalls* mal in Nischenbereichen (Notepad++ für den knappen Kontakt mit HTML, kdenlive und audacity in Multimediaprojekten oder, wenn die Lehrer sehr pfiffig sind, auch mal Python für Scripting...). Firefox bildet an einigen Stellen noch eine Ausnahme als das FLOSS-Tool, das am ehesten als "Vorgabe" installiert ist, allerdings auch mit Microsoft Edge zunehmend an Boden verliert.
- Wartung und Pflege wird auch hier nicht als notwendig erachtet bzw. gelegentlich durch den "Wissenden" in der Familie erledigt. Ansonsten rangieren Laptops, Tablets, Smartphones in der Wahrnehmung in einer Schublade mit dem TV oder dem Radio, die im Allgemeinen auch keiner Wartung bedienen, sondern die man einschalten und nutzen will. Diesen Ansatz erlebe ich insgesamt *extrem* häufig und der passt auch zu dem hier:
"Mangelnde Kompetenz" ist eine Ausrede für "Keine Zeit" und "ich oder meine Kinder zocken". Und das sind zwei ernstzunehmende sachliche Gründe, gegen die es derzeit kein Argument gibt.
Ich verstehe Deinen Punkt, erlebe das aber nicht als Ausrede. Ich kenne Leute, deren Hobby schon immer Auto-Tuning war, auf Hardware- und jetzt teilweise auf Software-Ebene. Die fassen in ihren Fahrzeugen Dinge an, von denen ich gar nicht wüsste, dass sie existieren (und die mich auch überhaupt nicht interessieren, so lang sie tun, was sie sollen). Das erlebe ich bei digitalen Werkzeugen sehr häufig genau so: Die Erwartungshaltung ist "Einschalten und Nutzen". Dort ist für die "Innereien" (Technik, Betriebssystem oder Lieferant der vorinstallierten Software) ebensowenig Interesse vorhanden wie bei mir für die Frage, wer meine Zündspule hergestellt hat. Deswegen haben Smartphones und Tablets hier Leute digitalisiert, die früher Computer bestenfalls im Büro verwendet und das auch nur zähneknirschend getan haben. Und deswegen bin ich auch manchmal erheblich nervös in der Wahrnehmung, wie sehr Cloud-Dienste und (noch extrem viel proprietärere) Mobil-Geräte einen Markt schaffen, in dem Nutzung von "Full-Stack-FLOSS" schwierig bis unmöglich ist.....

In meinem Umfeld haben alle Familien mindestens einen Laptop. Der dient als Zweitfernseher, Schreibmaschine und Spielgerät. Smartphones und Konsolen gibt es natürlich auch.
Diejenigen, die zocken, tun das auf Smartphones oder auf Spielekonsolen, vorrangig Nintendo Switch und PS4.
Es gibt Spiele, da kannst Du an der Konsole nicht mithalten und kein Kind will ständig verlieren. Viele triple-A Spiele erscheinen auch nur für den PC. Das gilt jedenfalls für Jungs. Mit einem top ausgestatteten Spielerechner wird angegeben. Bei Mädchen könnte das anders sein, für deren Spielbedürfnisse reicht möglicherweise ein Smartphone oder Tablet.

Hier in SH ist Iserv stark. Die verwenden im Server-Bereich FOSS, was man derzeit deutlich merkt (BBB statt Zoom). Das default OS ist natürlich Windows, aber Anwendungssoftware kann die Schule wählen und LO ist billiger. Linux wird auch unterstützt, aber aus Angst und Bequemlichkeit der Lehrer bisher wenig genutzt. Hier gilt das Kompetenz-Mangel-Argument und in der Lehrerbildung könnte die FSFE noch mehr tun.

Ich bin fest davon überzeugt, dass MS genau diesen Weg auch mit Windows gehen wird. Ein eingesperrter Client mit begrenzten Ressourcen an der Cloud mit Abomodell ist die dort geplante Zukunft. Windows als allround-OS werden sie sterben lassen. Ich bin gespannt, ob die derzeit übliche PC-Hardware dann noch produziert wird.

Das ist stark. Dort wäre interessant zu lernen, was SH hier anders macht als andere Bundesländer. Das ist bei uns so überhaupt kein Thema - etwa: der Technik-Lehrer (den ich ansonsten fachlich und menschlich sehr schätze) hat in einem Vorleben als Trainer für Microsoft-Produkte gearbeitet.

Natürlich. Google und Apple machen das vor. Und: Das müssen wir werten und darauf reagieren. Das Blöde an dieser Sache: Diese Herangehensweise ist nicht *nur* schlecht. Sie vereinfacht verschiedene Dinge für völlig unbedarfte Endnutzer ganz erheblich, und dort kommt FLOSS mit dem leider immer noch oft vorgetragenen Anspruch, dass Freiheit kompliziert ist und die Nutzer eben lernen sollen, immer mehr ins Hintertreffen.
=> Haben wir (als Community) für die genannten Zielgruppen - Home-Nutzer, kleinere Firmen, ... - eine klare Strategie, wie wir die erreichen können und wollen? Haben wir eine Strategie, wie wir auf von dort vorgetragene Anforderungen und Einwände gezielt und produktiv reagieren können und den Nutzern auch auf ihrer Flughöhe das Gefühl zu geben, dass FLOSS ein besserer Ansatz ist als Abhängigkeit von einem großen Konzern?
Einige der Herausforderungen (und *sei* es die Unterstützung von Spielen), die bestehen, kennen wir seit den 1990ern. Sicher sind manche schwer umzusetzen. Aber wenn ich sehe, dass etwa auch in 2020 es noch nicht klappt, einen Linux-Desktop mit GTK+- und KDE-Anwendungen so zu konfigurieren, dass er sich nahtlos und wie aus einem (ergonomischen, visuellen) Guss anfühlt, dann sehe ich trotzdem, dass wir noch ein paar andere Herausforderungen auf unserer Seite haben. :|

Aber auch hier ist das eine Minderheit. Die meisten möchten noch nicht einmal einen anderen Messanger als WhatsApp nutzen.

Was soll eine "Standarddistribution" bringen? Fehlende Auswahl? (Stichwort: "Trabi") Und was würde dann aus den Vorteilen Freier Software in Bezug auf mögliche Geschäftsmodelle von KMU?
Ich habe eine klare Meinung darüber, welche Distribution und welchen Desktop ich präferiere. Aber Menschen, die neu einsteigen oder GNU/Linux ausprobieren möchten, sage ich: "Nimm' die Distribution, die auch Dein 'Nachbar' hat." Und füge hinzu, dass mit 'Nachbar' eine erreichbare, hilfsbereite Person gemeint ist.
Nach dem Einstieg erscheint es mir auch nicht so schwierig, die Distribution oder sogar das Betriebssystem zu wechseln, wenn man weiterhin lernwillig ist.

und da fangen unsere Probleme an, warum sich Linux bzw. FOSS auf dem Desktop noch nicht so richtig durchgesetzt hat: Die imaginären Nachbarn nutzen idR Windows. Wenn sie ein Problem haben, ist es nicht schwer, jemanden zu finden, der ihnen helfen kann. Also technische Unterstützung: Ich denke, dass die allgemeine tägliche Unterstützung durch Menschen in Ihrer Umgebung für viele Menschen bei der Benutzung von Technologie entscheidend ist.
Verfügbarkeit: Die Situation hat sich verbessert, aber für viele Menschen ist schwer möglich, einen Laptop mit vorinstalliertem Gnu/Linux zu kaufen, geschweige denn ein Tablet oder Smartphone mit LineageOS, Ubuntu Touch etc, da es für ein Mainstream-Publikum einfach nicht zugänglich ist, außer vielleicht Chromebooks.
Die Menschen fühlen sich mit dem System, das sie normalerweise benutzen, wohl. Es kann schwierig sein, ein neues System zu erlernen, das sich von dem unterscheidet, das sie schon immer benutzt haben, es sei denn, es gibt einen klaren Vorteil, der sie durch diese Lernkurve motiviert.
Windows, Android, iOS mit MS-Office etc sind aber alles Systeme, mit denen die meisten Menschen ihre Aufgaben prima erledigen können. Es gibt keinen Grund wechseln zu wollen, außer man ist motiviert genug, Freiheit, Unabhängigkeit, Nachhaltigkeit, Privatsphäre, Individualisierung etc. zu wollen.
Wegen Wahlfreiheit: Finde ich auch wichtig, sie zu haben, was ich aber unter Gnu/Linux häufig nicht verstehe ist, warum gelöste Probleme immer wieder aufs neue gelöst werden müssen, z.B. Paketmanager: Warum benötigt gefühlt jede Distribution ihren eigenen Paketmanager? Freie Software sollte ja eigentlich dazu da sein, dass das Rad nicht ständig neu erfunden werden muss. Aber okay, finde ich jetzt auch nicht so problematisch. :-)

Dort haben wir dann zwar einen Linux-Desktop, aber über Unabhängigkeit und Privatsphäre brauchen wir dort nicht mehr zu sprechen.

Anforderungen entspricht *und* die Endnutzer dort abholen kann (muss), wo sie jetzt stehen, dann gelingt das nicht ohne eine gewisse Planung und Koordination, zu der auch nicht "nur" Code gehört, sondern Usability, Software-Ergonomie und so banale Dinge wie Infrastruktur-Betrieb. Dass das Bedürfnis für freie IT-Infrastruktur da ist, zeigt der Run auf Matrix.org: praktisch alle Nutzer von Matrix/Riot sind dort registriert, weil Federation zwar richtig ist, aber der einfache Nutzer das nicht kann. Bezahlen wollen Privatleute aber nicht - es wird dann auch meist ziemlich teuer, da Datenverkauf als Einnahmequelle ausscheidet. Das Problem mit der fehlenden freien IT-Infrastruktur für Privatleute könnte nur der Staat oder eine sehr große Stiftung lösen. Es gab mal Zeiten, da fühlte sich der Staat für Infrastruktur zuständig und kassierte DAFÜR Steuern. In Zeiten der Telekom/Post/Bahn/Autobahn-Privatisierung ist das allerdings ein anachronistisches Konzept.
Aber zB Schleswig-Holstein plant einen Bürger-Account, der über Verwaltungsdienste hinausgeht (wie weit, ist noch unklar) - das geht in die richtige Richtung, federführend sind die Grünen. Wir müssen da dran bleiben und die Parteien mit dieser Ausrichtung unterstützen.

Dass das Bedürfnis für freie IT-Infrastruktur da ist, zeigt der Run auf Matrix.org: praktisch alle Nutzer von Matrix/Riot sind dort registriert, weil Federation zwar richtig ist, aber der einfache Nutzer das nicht kann. Bezahlen wollen Privatleute aber nicht - es wird dann auch meist ziemlich teuer, da Datenverkauf als Einnahmequelle ausscheidet. Das Problem mit der fehlenden freien IT-Infrastruktur für Privatleute könnte nur der Staat oder eine sehr große Stiftung lösen. Es gab mal Zeiten, da fühlte sich der Staat für Infrastruktur zuständig und kassierte DAFÜR Steuern. In Zeiten der Telekom/Post/Bahn/Autobahn-Privatisierung ist das allerdings ein anachronistisches Konzept.
Aber zB Schleswig-Holstein plant einen Bürger-Account, der über Verwaltungsdienste hinausgeht (wie weit, ist noch unklar) - das geht in die richtige Richtung, federführend sind die Grünen. Wir müssen da dran bleiben und die Parteien mit dieser Ausrichtung unterstützen.

Same here. Weil es dazu passt: Die Kirchgemeinde im Viertel hat zu Beginn des Lockdowns Flyer in die Briefkästen geworfen, in denen sie darauf aufmerksam gemacht hat, auch "digital vernetzt" zu sein. Konsequenz:
- Es gibt einen YouTube-Channel, in dem Gottesdienste und Andachten live gestreamt werden oder archiviert verfügbar sind.
- Für die Jugend-Arbeit gibt es einen Discord-Channel.
- Für die "Älteren" gibt es eine WhatsApp-Kontaktnummer und -Gruppe.
Auf eine Mail (Datenschutz et al) von mir hat der Pfaffer sogar mit einem Anruf(!) geantwortet. Erklärung kurz und knapp: Er ist diesen Diensten gegenüber skeptisch, weswegen er etwa seine Konfirmanden via E-Mail organisiert. Aber: Die Digitalisierung helfe in diesen Tagen, überhaupt "irgendetwas" tun zu können. Dafür braucht er aber mehr als eine Person, die das halbwegs sicher beherrscht, und dafür hat er Leute gefunden - drei Frühzwanziger, die in der kirchlichen Jugendarbeit mit einem praktikanten-ähnlichen Vertrag gebunden und über ein paar Jahre planbar "da" sind. Und die haben eben WhatsApp, YouTube, Discord mitgebracht, weil sie sich zutrauen, das für das "Viertel" zu pflegen und auch eventuelle Fragen von Nutzern mit inhaltlichen oder technischen Problemen zu beantworten.
Das ist der Umkehrschluß zu oben: Es hängt zu oft an einzelnen Personen und dem, was die mitbringen, weil Digitalisierung insbesondere in Kirchen, Vereinen, ... oft ad-hoc und ungeplant ist, es dafür weder Budget noch (in manchen Fällen) Einsicht in die echte Notwendigkeit gibt und meist diejenigen, die den Strukturen vorstehen, jene, die das in Eigenregie und mit eigener Kraft machen wollen, dann eben gewähren lassen und nicht weiter fragen. Dann gewinnen eben wieder die Plattformen mit der größten Verbreitung - und dann darf man in Mastodon endlose theoretische Diskussionen darüber führen, warum Menge an Nutzern für eine Plattform doch keine kluge Metrik ist. Nun ja... :|

Natürlich. Das ist aber genau mein Punkt. Aber ist nicht *das* das Problem, das wir insgesamt anstreben sollten zu lösen?
Ich erlebe dort im FLOSS- und Datenschutz-Umfeld leider immer noch viel zu viele Aktivisten, die das Brett dort bohren, wo es dünn und bequem ist: Der Einzelne soll sich halt gefälligst informieren, seine Erwartungshaltungen an Komfort und Bedienbarkeit ad acta legen und so handeln, wie man das selbst als sensibilisierter Experte natürlich auch tun würde.
Hier sehe ich eben nur zwei Lösungen:
(a) Eine staatlich finanzierte oder zumindest reglementierte Infrastruktur, in der diese Dinge "da" sind. Das muss nichtmal zwingend so förderiert sein, dass jeder seinen eigenen Kram betreibt. Wir hatten das doch alles schon: Ehedem haben ISPs ihren Nutzern E-Mail-Accounts zur Verfügung gestellt. Telefon-Anbieter haben Nutzern (via Telefonnummer) Textkommunikation per SMS ermöglicht. Warum nicht zu diesen Ansätzen zurückfinden? Dort wäre IMHO viel über Interoperabilitätsvorschriften zu lösen.
(b) P2P. Lösungen, die für den Endnutzer eine *sichere*, halbwegs selbstständige Kommunikation erlauben mit dem Wissensstand, den man hat, wenn sich die eigenen IT-Fähigkeiten darauf beschränken, auf einem Smartphone eine App installieren zu können. Wenn man das Internet oder "Instanzen" von irgendwas dann auf dumme Nodes beschränkt, die verschlüsselte Informationen weiterleiten, wäre das ein *großer* Schritt vorwärts im Vergleich zu faktisch allen neuen "zentral-förderierten" Lösungen wie Matrix oder Mastodon...

Es gibt natürlich auch noch weitere Formate, aber deren Verbreitung in der "Nicht-Nord-Bevölkerung" eher marginal.
Aber Du sprachst von Paketmanagern. Hier gibt es in der Tat eine größere Vielfalt, die teilweise aber dem Fortschritt geschuldet ist.
apt ist wesentlich einfacher in der Handhabung als dpkg. apt wird auch noch nachhaltig bei Wahrung der Rückwärtskompatibilität weiterentwickelt. aptitude und synaptic sollten die Handhabung noch etwas vereinfachen und transparenter machen.
Wichtiger ist jedoch, dass man grundsätzlich jedes Debian- (Ubuntu- etc.)Paket mit jedem dieser Tools installieren kann.
Zu bedenken ist, dass Evolution notwendigerweise zu Vielfalt zu führen scheint. Manches stirbt dann aus oder findet seine Nischen. Aber die Entwicklung auf ein Tool konzentrieren zu wollen, führt wohl auch zu einem Stillstand der Entwicklung (s. "Trabi").
Dies kann als nützlich und angenehm empfunden werden. Manche Tools sind auch einfach so, wie sie sind, gut, sodass Verbesserungen durch Veränderungen schwer vorstellbar sind (s. Kunststoff-Spreizdübel). Aber in der IT dürften das die Ausnahmen sein.

Weder weiß ich, welche das ist, noch ob solche Firmen existieren. In der Praxis läuft dann ein Xubuntu seit 11 Jahren auf alter Hardware zu 90% reibungslos.
Ob das ein entscheidender Faktor bei Haushalten ist, kann ich nicht beurteilen. Aber ich denke hier gibt es eine Lücke, die zumindest in meinem Umfeld auch schon aufgefallen ist.

In der DDR war Wählen recht einfach. Bei einer süddeutschen Kommunalwahl kann es "schon einmal eine Wissenschaft für sich" sein.
Was soll eine "Standarddistribution" bringen? Fehlende Auswahl? (Stichwort: "Trabi") Und was würde dann aus den Vorteilen Freier Software in Bezug auf mögliche Geschäftsmodelle von KMU?
Ich habe eine klare Meinung darüber, welche Distribution und welchen Desktop ich präferiere. Aber Menschen, die neu einsteigen oder GNU/Linux ausprobieren möchten, sage ich: "Nimm' die Distribution, die auch Dein 'Nachbar' hat." Und füge hinzu, dass mit 'Nachbar' eine erreichbare, hilfsbereite Person gemeint ist.
Nach dem Einstieg erscheint es mir auch nicht so schwierig, die Distribution oder sogar das Betriebssystem zu wechseln, wenn man weiterhin lernwillig ist.

Hier passiert aber Ähnliches wie bei GNU/Linux. Einen Platten zu reparieren benötigt Fertigkeiten analog wie bei bei einer Person, die eine Linux-Distri selber installieren kann und benötigt Zeit und Geduld, weswegen eine Reparaturwerkstatt, sofern überhaupt noch vorhanden, den Schlauch wechselt, statt zu reparieren, und oft noch mit der falschen Grösse, da das genau Passende oft nicht am Lager ist.
Früher war es einfach, sich z.B. eine 3-fach Kettenradgarnitur selber zusammen zu stellen oder einzelne Kettenräder auszuwechseln. Das gibt es praktisch nicht mehr: selbst wenn verschraubt, gibt es die einzelnen Kettenräder nicht mehr.
Moderne Elektrovelos sind "black boxes" und ausser von spezialisierten Werkstätten kaum reparierbar, und wenn der Hersteller nicht will oder es ihn nicht mehr gibt, gar nicht. Daselbe für elektrische Gangschaltungen.
Usw. Ich würde sogar sagen, bei den Fahrrädern ist es noch schlimmer als bei den PCs. Bei Autos dürfte es ähnlich sein.
Noch zum Thread: wir drehen uns ziemlich im Kreis herum. Es ist klar, Freiheit ist anstrengend, muss so sein, wie Demokratie. Wer es einfach will, landet in einer Diktatur.

nahezu jedes (größere) Freie Projekt hat eine Seite im WWW, auf der beschrieben steht, wie man an unentgeltlichen Support kommt (Mailinglisten, Foren etc.).
Natürlich gibt es auch Unternehmen, die kommerziellen Support für Freie Software anbieten. Diese wenden sich tatsächlich eher an Unternehmen, weil die Bereitschaft von Privatkunden für den Support "kostenloser" Software etwas zu zahlen meiner Erfahrung nachauch nicht immer gegeben ist.
Aber bei proprietärer Software ist dies nicht zwangsläufig anders. Sofern man sich nicht an einen "zertifizierten" Partner eines Herstellers wendet, sondern an den nächstbesten Computerladen, kann man dort die Kompetenz zur Lösung des speziellen Problems nicht unbedingt erwarten. Klar gibt es auch dort im Einzelfall kompetente Menschen, aber "blindlinks" verlassen kann man sich darauf nicht.
Bei Fahrrädern oder Automobilen ist das in Tat anders.

Nur der Vollständigkeit halber möchte ich noch anmerken, daß die Linux-Unterstützung bei Spielen durch Projekte wie Lutris, Vulkan und Proton/Steam um Lichtjahre vorangekommen ist, auch dank der Mitarbeit von AMD. Die Installation ist - distributionsübergreifend! - viel einfacher als früher, aber häufig dennoch nicht problemfrei und insofern nicht für jeden geeignet. Daran kann die Linux-Gemeinde auch nichts ändern, solange die Spiele-Hersteller das nicht unterstützen. Und leider gibt es auch Hersteller, die Linux aktiv verhindern, wie etwa EA (Electronic Arts).
Wenn MS, wie von mir erwartet, auf ein Abo-Modell mit relativ dummen Clients umstellt, könnte das eine Chance für Linux als Spieleplattform sein, denn ressourcenhungrige Spiele sind bei der derzeitigen Internet-Infrastruktur in einem Client-Server-Modell nicht zu realisiseren.
Auch wird sich nicht jeder Spiele-Produzent in den MS-Shop eingliedern wollen, denn dann gehen 30% Umsatz an die Konkurrenz. Der Verteilungskampf in dem Segment ist derzeit in vollem Gange. MS verlangt Exklusivität, ein schlechtes Zeichen. Nvidia scheitert gerade mit seinem Modell. Epic kämpft mit wöchentlichen, großzügigen Giveaways. Activision konzentriert sich auf das eigene Angebot und hält sich alle Richtungen offen (ganz stillschweigend auch Linux). Steam hat sich breit aufgestellt und hofft.
Wie ich finde, eine sehr interessante Entwicklung. Das ist ein ständig wachsender Milliardenmarkt.

Dem "normalen" Gamer allerdings geben sie nichts davon weiter. Spiele wie PubG und The Turing Test sind leider weiterhin Windows exklusiv.
Der Vorteil für Linux Nutzer ist allerdings, dass sie die Cloud Variante nutzen können...
Ob Cloud Gaming so ökologisch ist, ist allerdings die Frage...

Allgemein zur Migrationsbereitschaft von privaten Haushalten Meine Erfahrung aus nun wahrscheinlich 8 Jahren Linux-Support (Vielleicht auch länger):
Das sind meine "Schubladen": 1. PC-Spieler - Kaum migrierbar, bin zwar selber Gamer aber ich schränke mich deswegen eben auch ein...
2. Die Leute die GLAUBEN sie hätten Ahnung von Windows - Kaum migrierbar. Platt gesagt: Die brauchen einfach seine Laufwerksbuchstaben und Tuning Programme... Statt das System zu verstehen, wurden hier meist nur vorgehensweisen Stumpf eintrainiert und da werden dann auch gerne mal Windows 98 "techniken" gerne für Windows 10 verwendert. Beispiel mein Vater: Der hat letztens bei einem alten Rechner, den er auf biegen und brechen mit Windows 10 zum laufen bringen wollte und hat, Registry Einträge aus einer Zeitschrift für Windows XP eingebaut... Begründung: Weil der Rechner ja auch so alt ist...
3. Ich wusste ja gar nicht, dass es auch Alternativen zu Windows gibt - Sehr gut migrierbar.
4. Nutzt ein Schreibprogramm und den Browser und maximal noch ein eMail-Programm - Sehr gut migrierbar.
Ich habe nur wenige Leute in meinem Supportkreis, die keine Ahnung vom Computer haben und trotzdem bei Windows bleiben. Also in Schublade 3 oder 4 gehören, aber trotzdem nicht wechseln.
Einer davon ist nach dem 2. Mal, nachdem er sich von Porno Seiten mal wieder einen eingefangen hat (Offiziell ist die Herkunft natürlich nicht ;) ), auf Linux gewechselt. Seit dem höre ich von dem nur noch einmal im Jahr etwas. (War schon sehr überrascht beim ersten mal nnch einem Jahr wieder was von ihm zu hören, nachdem er mich vorher im 4-8 Wochen angerufen hat. Dachte der hätte sich jemanden anderes gesucht XD )
Aber eine Linux Distribution installiere ich bei ALLEN. Bei denen, die nur Windows wollen, ist sie so etwa 20GB groß und fungiert als Notnagel. Zu häufig haben sich die Leute genau dann gemeldet, wenn es mir gerade am wenigsten passt und es bei denen natürlich total drigend ist. Dann kann ich den Leuten sagen, sie können sich erstmal mit Linux "über Wasser halten". Habe letztens erfahren, dass einer davon nur noch Linux nutzt, weil sein Windows 7 nicht mehr funktioniert hat. Hat sich allerdings nie bei mir gemeldet um das zu ändern. XD
Was öfters mal vorkam sind Migrationsschmerzen. In der Arbeit wird nunmal Windows eingesetzt (Die Windows meist einsetzen, weil Zuhause meist Windows eingesetzt wird. Ich liebe diese Schlange die sich in ihren eigenen Schwanz beißt...) und da habe ich einige die Probleme haben wenn Microsoft Office nicht da ist oder schlicht die Oberfläche anders aussieht.
Die nicht Migrierbarkeit wegen Programmen hat bei meinem Supportkreis in den letzten Jahren stark abgenommen. Gerade die Verlegung vieler Tätigkeiten in das Internet hat eine Migration auf Linux vereinfacht.
Allerdings sehe ich in der Google Chrome Dominanz auch große Gefahren. Man fängt an sich von Standards zu lösen und nur noch für Chrome zu optimieren und sich damit zurück in die IE Zeit zu bewegen. Ich habe Sorge das am Ende ein Browser auf Chrome Basis + Windows wieder zur Benutzung von Webseiten nötig wird...

Gut, ich hatte bis Ubuntu 14.04 für meine "Betreuten" ein 2 Distributionen System. Lubuntu für die Leute mit schwachem Rechnern und Ubuntu mit Cairo-Dock für die mit gutem Rechnern.
Weil ich mit Lubuntu nicht zufrieden war und Ubuntu auf Unity gewechselt ist, habe ich mich dann auf Ubuntu Mate für alle festgelegt. Der Support Aufwand mit zwei Distributionen war tatsächlich höher.
Einmal Installationsskript mit "Weichen" und einmal weil ich auch immer Remote Support gegeben habe und wenn man mal blind Hilfe geben musste (Bin damals viel rum gekommen und war häufig einfach nicht zugegen und mittlerweile sind es dann doch Leute aus bis zu 150km Entfernung geworden) weil das Wlan nicht funktioniert oder schlicht und einfach Teamviewer nicht so schnell gefunden wurde (BTW: Hat da wer ne anständige zuverlässige Alternative zu?) , ist eine einzige Distribution, die man auch selbst benutzt, natürlich von Vorteil. Aber wie gesagt halte ich einen blinden Remote Support eh für die Ausnahme und nur dann wenn man einen festen Supporter hat.

Eine zuverlässige FOSS Alternative zu Teamviewer, bei der die Person, die Hilfe empfangen möchte, keine Portweiterleitungen, -freigabe o.ä. auf dem Router fummeln muss, würde mich auch interessieren: Installieren/Starten -> ID durchgeben -> Bildschirmfreigabe, das ist schon sehr simple und funktioniert recht gut. Eine Alternative dazu als Freie Software kenne ich leider auch nicht.
Mit der Bildschirmfreigabe bei Jitsi funktioniert es bspw. meiner Erfahrung nach mal mehr mal weniger gut und manchmal auch gar nicht.

Einer meiner Kollegen mit vielen Qualifikationen ist trotzdem nicht in der Lage, den Text eines Dokuments zur Bearbeitung platzsparend zu verschicken, weil voll von hochaufgelösten und eingebetteten Bildern. Er weiss weder wie die Bilder zu reduzieren, noch sie zu verlinken (oder wegzulassen), und verschickt somit riesige Emails. Ganz schlimm sind die Einstellungen einiger Mailsclients, sämtliche Anhänge mit Antworten zurückzuschicken.
In Uni und Gemeinde, wo ich früher arbeitete, werden viele MB-schwere PDFs erstellt und gemailt, selbst für wenige Seiten Text, z.B. weil da ein schweres Logo oder eine Unterschrift drin sind.
Selbst auf dieser Liste gelingt es nicht, die grässlichen Fullquotes auszumerzen. Ich habe schon die englischsprachige FSFE-Liste deswegen abbestellt. Es ist wirklich so, dass diese (durchaus nützliche!) Mails meinen knappen Speicherplatz zu sehr füllen. Es macht schon etwas aus, wenn wie bei dir vorbildlich zitiert wird, Florian (2.4 kB) oder bei einigen andern nicht (z.B. 10 kB), von den sonst üblichen Formatierungen ganz zu schweigen.
Sorry, das war etwas OT und selbst eine Speicherverschwendung, aber das Kostenargument bei Office 365 dürfte trotzdem relevant sein, wenn z.B. meine Kirchgemeinde allein dafür neu jedes Jahr einige zehntausend Franken ausgibt, nur weil der Verantwortliche ein MS-Fan ist und es allen anderen egal ist. Wenn ich nicht einen der Pfarrer unterstützen möchte, würde ich aus der Kirchgemeinde austreten und mir dadurch die Kirchensteuer ersparen.

Volle Zustimmung. Ich als linux-sozialisiertes Lästermaul habe auch gerade heute erst meine "Lernkurve" und Erdung erfahren in erstmaliger Notwendigkeit, im Outlook im Web im Office 365 eine Nachricht beantworten zu müssen. Ich habe schlußendlich "nur" meine Antwort geschickt, weil es mir nicht gelungen ist, vernünftig die zwei Zeilen, die ich brauchte, zu zitieren.
Das Thema halte ich insofern schon für interessant, aber hier sehe ich zwei Baustellen, die mit FLOSS nur am Rande zu tun haben, für die ich aber keine Lösung kenne:
- Allgemein: Investition in nachhaltige, ressourcenschonende IT-Infrastruktur als ganzheitliches Konzept. Das berührt Speicherplatz und Bandbreite, das berührt aber auch Themen wie Platz-, Energie, Zeitbedarf (Menschen, die Kraft in den Betrieb von Technik investieren und dafür andere Dinge nicht tun können). Dort stelle ich mir manchmal schon die Frage, wie "effizient" ein KMU mit eigenem Serverraum hier ist im Vergleich zu Google oer Amazon, die das in extrem großem Stil und extrem optimiert machen bis zu einem Punkt, an dem sie sogar so etwas wie "green IT" systematisch steuern und beeinflussen können. Wenn ich mir nur [1] anschaue und vergleiche, mit welchen Problemen meine Organisation zu kämpfen hat, weiß ich, dass wir (und alle anderen, die ich im Umfeld kenne) *meilenweit* entfernt davon sind, sich solche Fragen auch nur stellen zu können.
- Konkreter: Optimierungsmöglichkeiten für kleinere Strukturen und Behörden in diesem Dunstkreis. In DE sehe ich nach wie vor Fachkräfte- und an vielen Stellen auch Budget-Mangel. Für die meisten Organisationen, mit denen ich zu tun habe, sind Ansätze wie Amazon oder Azure deswegen interessant, weil sie extrem gut in *beide* Richtungen skalieren. Brauch ich viel Ressourcen oder hoch verfügbare Dienste, bezahle ich viel. Brauch ich weniger Ressourcen, bezahle ich weniger. Habe ich weniger Geld, muss ich über meinen Ressourcenbedarf nachdenken. Mit self-hosted IT und Infrastrukturbetrieb in Eigenverantwortung, mit eigenen Leuten und Prozessen skaliert das für gewöhnlich nur in eine Richtung - nach oben; Rückbau von Infrastruktur und Personal bei weniger Last ist deutlich komplexer, wenn überhaupt möglich. Das ist aus wirtschaftlicher Sicht Mist (weil es Kosten ohne Nutzen verursacht), aber es ist auch als Nachhaltigkeitsperspektive eklig (weil ich unter Umständen Leute habe, die "da" sein müssen, aber nix Sinnvolles tun können, oder weil ich Server und Storage habe, die "halbleer" laufen, aber nicht reduziert werden können).
Diese Themen sind aus meiner Sicht hinreichend relevant und spannend, aber absolut nichts, wofür die Lizenz von Software irgendwie maßgeblich wäre. Deswegen weiß ich nicht so recht, ob das (a) hier überhaupt Thema ist und (b) wie man das sinnvollerweise angehen kann. Und ich sehe auch durchaus Konfliktpotential: Selfhosting aus Perspektive "digitaler Autonomie" vs. eventuell Aspekte der Nachhaltigkeit / Ökologie?

Am besten gäbe es mehrere Genossenschaften und es wäre einfach, zwischen den Genossenschaften zu wechseln. Nur für den Fall, dass bei einer Genossenschaft was aus dem Ruder läuft. Kommt ja immer wieder vor. Auch dafür wäre freie Software wichtig, damit man die gewohnte Software von einer Genossenschaft zur nächsten mitnehmen kann, falls sie da nicht ohnehin schon läuft.

Ich glaube es gehört schon alles ein bisschen zusammen. Ich kann hier nur meine eigene Geschichte erzählen, die zeigt, dass es eigentlich nur um den Willen geht: den eigenen politischen und den guten der Mitarbeiter.
Ich bin der Gatte einer ehemaligen Geschäftsführerin einer kleinen Organisation mit anfänglich 2, später 8 Arbeitsplätzen und half bei der IT mit. Anfänglich MS-DOS, der Wechsel zu Mac scheiterte weil ich als Mac-User realisierte, wie extrem die Abhängigkeit zu Apple war: einfachste Hardwarefehler liessen sich nicht reparieren (oder brauchten Monate) und das ehemalige geschlossene System kam nicht gut zurecht mit dem Internet und fremder Hardware und stürzte dauernd ab.
So kam Windows, und es war recht teuer. Ich kann mich erinnern, dass unser Profi-Support acht Stunden aufschrieb für die Einrichtung eines Zip-Laufwerks. Deshalb untersuchte ich Linux, und obwohl ich es sehr schwierig fand, konnte ich meine eigene IT umstellen und später auch des Geschäfts. Wir kauften entweder aktuelle Spargeräte oder verwendeten gebrauchte PCs oder solche aus dem Abfall. Durch das Terminal-Server-Thin-Client System LTSP war die Administration pro Arbeitsplatz recht günstig und im Prinzip wäre auch "Homeoffice" gegangen. Unsere Internetdienste hostete der erste solare Anbieter der Schweiz.
Kleine Probleme belasteten die Geduld, z.B. die Verwendung von USB-Sticks war mühsam. Ich veranstaltete mal einen Wettbewerb unter Profis und keiner konnte unsere Medien zuverlässig mounten. Dieses Problem hatte Windows nicht Dieses hatten wir für einige Programme virtuell dabei, wenn es mit WINE nicht ging. Dafür hatte wir nie irgendwelche Sicherheitsprobleme und brauchten kein Anti-Virus Zeug, während Kollegen immer wieder ihre Systeme oder Daten verloren. Wenn bei uns Festplatten ausfielen, war das zwar etwas traumatisch, aber mit dd oder so wurden schnell wieder neue von den Backups auf externen Festplatten eingerichtet.
Zu der Zeit brauchten die Linux-Systeme ähnliche Hardwareressourcen wie Windows, aber wir ersparten uns das Lizenzchaos und das regelmässige Eintippen von 20-stelligen Zahlen. Ein Pproblem war, dass es keinen zuverlässigen lokalen Support gab. Die Anbieter und ihre Angestellten wechselten dauernd, aber bei Mac und Windows war es mir nicht besser gegangen, ausserhalb von Userkreisen. Deswegen konnten einige Probleme und Wünsche der Mitarbeiter nicht immer oder nicht immer schnell gelöst werden. Sie waren zufrieden, wenn alles lief, und wenn nicht, war Linux oder Open Office, etc. schuld. Aber insgesamt konnten die Systeme mit Hilfe der wechselnden lokalen Profis doch zuverlässig unterhalten werden, die Wertschöpfung blieb vor Ort.
Ungefähr zwei Jahrzehnte ging das recht gut. Die Kosten waren, so weit ich das beurteilen konnte, ziemlich niedrig, und die Hardwarekosten sehr niedrig.
Mit dem Wechsel der Geschäftsleitung änderte alles. Komplett neue, Windows-taugliche Geräte wurden angeschafft, aber auch neue Bildschirme usw. Die einfachen Router und Switches wurden durch einen grossen Rack voll dauernd blinkenden und niemals ruhenden Geräten ersetzt. Backups via Dropbox. So weit ich das beurteilen kann, ist es jetzt viel teurer und braucht mehr Strom, von grauer Energie gar nicht zu sprechen, für etwa dieselbe Funktionen wie vorher.
Fazit: es ist immer ein politischer Entscheid, ob man die übliche Komfortlösungen wählt und dabei z.B. die Weltraumpläne von Jeff Bezos unterstützen will, oder sich mit lokalen Individuallösungen abmüht. Und beim Energieverbrauch kann ich mir nicht vorstellen, dass auch die effizientesten Green-IT Cloud-Lösungen sparsam sind, wenn man die ganze Infrastruktur des Internets einrechnet, besonders wenn es dann noch drahtlos gehen soll, wie immer mehr gefordert wird.

danke für die Erklärung. Ich kenne ähnliche Situationen, habe meine eigene Geschichte und sehe andere Problempunkte - eben einige der schon beschriebenen: Ehemals "Admin", dann IT-Leiter in einem KMU, das einen datenintensiven, sehr branchenspezifischen Nischendienst anbietet. Wir waren auf den Servern immer Linux, auf den Clients immer Windows, weil viele der Fachanwendungen in der Nische (CAD, Planungssoftware) nicht unter Linux verwend- oder ersetzbar sind.
Wir haben im Grunde "full stack" alles in der Hand vom Blech bis hin zu den Fachanwendungen, die die Dienste für Nutzer intern und extern bereitstellen. Mehrwert schaft die Entwicklung (Programmierung) spezifischer Lösungen innerhalb der Nische mit relativ schmalen Margen. Betrieb der darunterliegenden Infrastruktur war und ist schon immer "nur" Kostenpunkt gewesen, etwas, was eben einfach notwendig, aber schlecht optimierbar war. Über lange Zeit haben wir das mit PC-Infrastruktur bewältigt, bis das schlicht aus Stabilitätsgründen nicht mehr funktioniert hat - die PCs, Laufwerke, irgendwann auch Netzteile sind unter der 24x7-Last schlicht ausgestiegen. Wir haben mehrfach pro Monat Backups zurückgesichert und immer mal wieder Daten verloren, weil Dinge kaputtgegangen sind.
Irgendwann haben wir "richtige" Server gekauft, Blech und Storage von IBM. Mit Support, dafür aber eben auch mit "anderen" Linux-Distributionen. Wenn man next-business-day - Hardwaresupport vor Ort will, will die IBM kein Debian, sondern RedHat oder SuSE. Also Wechsel der Distribution, mit hinreichend komplexem Umbau von Backup, Hosting der Anwendungsserver, ... . Das hat immer mehr und immer massiver Zeit gefressen, und die Software-Entwicklung für Kundenprojekte, die *eigentlich* unser Geschäft sind, wurde zunehmend Nebenbeschäftigung hinter der Betriebssicherung der Infrastruktur darunter. Erste Virtualisierungs-Versuche mit VMWare sind grandios gescheitert, weil die VMWare-Infrastruktur damals (erste oder zweite Version von ESXi Server) viel zu inperformant für unsere Anforderungen war. Irgendwann zwischendrin ist uns die CentOS/IBM-Infrastruktur zusammengebrochen und wir hatten mehrere Tage Downtime, weil ein Ausfall des RAID-Controllers und zweier Platten gleichzeitig das RAID-System mitgenommen hat. An diesem Punkt bin ich aus dem Urlaub zurückgefahren in der Erkenntnis: Das Linux-System ist sehr effizient und leistungsfähig - aber es gab damais in unserem Umfeld (außer mir) niemanden, der wirklich imstande war, das in seiner Gänze zu überblicken.
Irgendwann gab es einen zweiten Versuch mit VMWare und HP-Servern, der dann gut funktioniert hat und lang gelaufen ist. Dann ist uns in einem Jahr vor Weihnachten unter der Endjahreslast (Abgaben vorm Jahreswechsel) die Netzwerk-Infrastruktur zusammengebrochen.
Momentane Lösung, seit einigen Jahren: Wir besitzen keine eigene Hardware mehr, sondern "mieten Ressourcen" auf Abstraktionsebene von VMs mit CPUs, RAM und Storage in verschiedenen Güteklassen (schnell/langsam, mit/ohne Backup) im RZ eines lokalen Partners. Dort haben wir eine gegenseitige Abhängigkeit (ohne den können wir unser Geschäft nicht mehr tun, ohne uns fällt dem ein substantieller Teil des monatlichen Umsatzes weg), aber es funktioniert stabil.
Viel wichtiger aber: Dieses Modell ist möglicherweise teurer, als Hardware und Software selbst vorzuhalten. Aber es ist *deutlich* billiger, als Hardware und Software *und* Personal, Prozesse, Wissen, Qualifikation ... für deren Betrieb immer selbst vorzuhalten. Aus dieser Brille ist die Entwicklung für mich sogar konsequent, nahtlos, folgerichtig: Irgendwann gab es einzelne Rechner, für die Software individuell entwickelt wurde durch die Leute, die die Maschine kannten. Irgendwann gab es Betriebssysteme für eine Klasse von Maschinen - die Betriebssystem-API war "Schnittstelle", und die Anwendungsentwickler obendrüber mussten nicht zwingend die Maschinen kennen (und die Betriebssystementwickler "darunter" nicht mehr zwingend die Anwendungs-Use-Cases). Irgendwann gab es Virtualisierung auf Maschinenebene, und plötzlich mussten Betriebssysteme nicht mehr auf spezifischem Blech laufen, konnten Betriebssysteminstallationen mit Anwendungen darauf zwischen Maschinen verschoben, portiert, ... werden. Irgendwann gab es VMs in der "Cloud", bei der man zwar wusste, das natürlich Hardware untendrunterliegt, sich darum aber gar keine Gedanken mehr machen musste. Die Schnittstelle zwischen "Anwendung" und "Infrastruktur", zwischen "eigener Arbeit" und "Einkaufbarem" rutscht stückweise höher - was erwartungskonform ist, weil es überall anders in einer arbeitsteiligen, sich immer mehr spezialisierenden Gesellschaft genau so läuft.
Und ich denke durchaus, dass das auch für Nachhaltigkeit gut ist. Etwa: Stand heute bräuchten wir aus Redundanzgründen eigentlich mindestens vier Leute um Systems Engineering - von denen sich aber mindestens zwei immer langweilen. Nur um auf Stand der Technik zu sein, müssten wir die immer halbwegs "qualifiziert" halten - dafür, dass sie in einem letztlich doch kleinen Rahmen unser Geschäft tragen. Unser lokaler Dienstleister ist genau darauf spezialisiert, der kann das viel besser, der tut nix anderes - also warum sollten wir das selbst tun wollen? Wir können uns auf unsere Dinge konzentrieren und dort "besser" sein, er auf seine. Der Spezialist erledigt die Arbeit meist deutlich effizienter als jemand, der Dinge "nebenbei" tut.
Gleichsam: Durch den Betrieb unserer Infrastruktur (die auf Peaks dimensioniert sein muss, aber äußerst selten an diesen Limits läuft) in einem Rechenzentrum auf Blech zusammen mit anderen Kunden (für die dasselbe gilt) läuft in summa weniger Hardware, und die Hardware, die läuft, wird besser ausgelastet. Klimatisierung, Energieversorgung etc. sind in einem "richtigen" Rechenzentrum eh um einiges besser abbildbar als in einem pragmatischen KMU-Serverstandort. Netzwerk-Infrastruktur brauch ich in beiden Fällen, dort sehe ich insofern keine Verbesserung oder Verschlechterung.
Azure und Co. treiben das jetzt einen Schritt weiter, indem sie genau diesen Dienst anbieten und damit unserem lokalen Partner Konkurrenz machen - mit den zwei Faktoren, die der noch nicht kann, nämlich (a) Downscaling (ich bezahle nur das, was ich brauche - was zumindest unser Dienstleister im Blick auf Block-Storage derzeit nicht kann) und wichtiger (b) das Hosting dedizierter Dienste, die die schon benannte Schnittstelle noch eine Ebene höher schieben (nicht mehr Mieten von VMs, sondern Mieten eines Datenbank-, Block-Storage- oder Application-Services). Und dort wird es für mich merkwürdig und perfide, dort beginne ich mir zunehmend die Frage zu stellen, wo sich FLOSS in Zukunft hin entwickelt: In Microsoft Azure kann ich mir performante und hochverfügbare FLOSS-Umgebungen bauen, kann mir Linux-VMs, Apache-Server, postgresql-Datenbanken, all den Kram mieten, den ich für meine "FLOSS-basierten" Applikationen so brauche. Ich kann mir über kubernetes oder OpenStack virtuelle Infrastrukturen bauen. Über Azure verdient Microsoft kräftig Geld daran, dass Nutzer Anwendungen auf dieser Software bauen und die dorthin deployen.
Finally: Als Unternehmen komme ich hier in Handlungszwang - nicht nur politisch, sondern auch wirtschaftlich in zweierlei Dimension. Zum einen bieten Azure, Google, ... teilweise Preismodelle an, mit denen lokale Partner schlecht mithalten können. Zum anderen aber wird der Konkurrenzdruck deutlich größer, weil Marktbegleiter in die eigene Nische eindringen und deutlich wirkungsvoller sein können, wenn sie gleich auf derartige Technologien aufsetzen und fokussiert und schnell vorgehen können, ohne die Steine aus dem Weg räumen zu müssen, mit denen wir uns in der Vergangenheit und teilweise noch Gegenwart herumschlagen mussten. Ersteres ist nur nervig, zweiteres potentiell ruinös. Und in dieser Gemengelage bewegt sich anno 2020 die Idee von "Software Libre" und teilweise eine unscharfe Abgrenzung zwischen "Freier Software", "Nachhaltigkeit", "digitaler Unabhängigkeit" und Selfhosting (teils auch vor einem "es-war-schon-immer-so"-Hintergrund). Und ich denke eben, konkret mit Blick auf Azure und FLOSS-Stacks dort drin, dass zurzeit FLOSS nicht hilft, solche Probleme einzufangen - ganz im Gegenteil. Mit Azure verdient Microsoft an Freier Software, während gleichermaßen ein "Libre-" oder auch nur "unabhängiges" vergleichbares Hosting in dieser Ausbaustufe fehlt. Ich kann perfekt "FLOSS" nutzen und trotzdem einen Monopolisten unterstützen. Deswegen denke ich mehr als nur einmal, in 2020 wäre Lösung genau dieses, des Hosting-Problems, mit mehr Fantasie als nur "Eigenbetrieb" oder Genossenschaft (wobei letzteres Modell schon mal gut ist) deutlich wichtiger in der Diskussion als die Frage nach den Lizenzen für den Source-Code...

danke für die sehr eindrücklichen persönlichen und daher für mich besonders aufschlussreichen Erfahrungsberichte anderer Lebenswirklichkeiten. Im Anschluss an Kristians Abschlusspassage stellt sich mir folgende Frage vor folgendem Gedankenspiel:
Mal angenommen, die FLOSS-Bewegung hat es erreicht, dass FLOSS zur nicht mehr hinterfragten Selbstverständlichkeit geworden ist (bspw. wie die Inhaltsangaben auf Nahrungsmittelverpackungen). Zugleich hat unser Wirtschaftssystem dazu geführt, dass aus den aktuellen großen IT-Monopolisten durch offizielle Fusionen oder stillschweigenden Absprachen oder Firmen wie Black Rock, die bei diesen IT-Konzernen zum größten Anteilseigner werden, faktisch ein einziger geworden ist (wie gesagt: nur mal angenommen). Dieses Konstrukt entwickelt und "provided" nun alles, womit weltweit gearbeitet wird (es finanziert auch entsprechende ThinkTanks, die für neue Ideen sorgen, um disruptive Entwicklungen sofort einverleiben zu können). Eigenentwicklungen sind nach wie vor möglich, macht aber niemand, weil die Wettbewerbsstandards Einzelwegen keine Chance lassen, auch nur ansatzweise mit dem Rest mitzuhalten, schon allein, weil die FLOSS-Projekte zu riesig und die Standards zu komplex sind, um sie mit kleinen Kollektiven zu forken. Die Frage wäre nun für mich (ohne Ironie): Ist das dann die Freiheit, die Freie Software ursprünglich mal meinte/wollte? Hat die FSFE dann ihr primäres Ziel erreicht?

Das ist eine interessante Frage... ;) ... und aus meiner Sicht die Zuspitzung des Diskurses "Open Source" vs. "Software Libre". Meine Antwort wäre "nein, ganz im Gegenteil".
Dort gibt es ja noch andere Schwierigkeiten, etwa: Würde es Facebook, Google, Amazon heute geben, hätte es "damals" kein Software Libre gegeben, sondern nur Microsoft, Windows NT, ASP, SQL Server und den IIS?
Die Kehrseite von FLOSS hier: Eine große Menge von Enthusiasten und Idealisten wird zu unbezahlter Workforce für große Konzerne und in einem Geschäftsmodell, in dem (anders als bei proprietärer Software "in der Box") die GPL als Lizenz eher nutzlos ist. Eigentlich ist die AGPL derzeit die weit wichtigere Lizenz - und die wird unter Umständen auch durch Modelle wie "FLOSS-Hosting auf Azure" wieder ausgehebelt.
Mich würde entlang dessen interessieren, wie viele Menschen sich im FSF(E)-Umfeld überhaupt mit solchen Themen beschäftigen. In vielen Diskussionen erlebe ich hier immer noch einen sehr ausgeprägten Fokus auf eigenen Servern, Linux-Desktops und dergleichen, was zumindest in meinem eng begrenzten Mikrokosmos eher nachrangige Bedeutung hat.

Hier haben wir eine Gemeinsamkeit. Auch unser LTSP-Server spuckte mit unerklärlichen Fehlern bis wir herausfanden, dass der Hardware-Controller mit einer halb-kaputter Platte dahinter stand. Wir hatten dann noch grosses Glück, dass am Ende nicht die gute Platte mit Inhalt der schlechten überschrieben wurde.
Auch kürzlich war das RAID "schuld". Auf einem neueren Laptop liess sich kein Linux installieren und nicht einmal das Windows löschen, weil eine interne SSD mit der Festplatte zu einem Beschleunigungs-RAID verbunden waren, mit unerwarteten Eigenschaften.

Naja, es hängt immer von den Use Cases ab, aber technisch spielt es mAn selten wirklich eine Rolle. Zwei Punkte:
- Du kannst in Modellen wie Azure (das geht auch bei AWS oder Google Cloud) *deutlich* leichter mit großer Hardware experimentieren. Storage mit extrem schnellen SSDs für I/O-intensive Anwendungen? Server mit vielviel RAM und CPUs für Last-Spitzen oder Anforderungen, die kurzzeitig oder dauerhaft viel Ressourcen benötigen? Breitere Internetanbindung, wenn mehr Nutzer auf dem System arbeiten und das Netzwerk in die Knie geht? Alles kein Problem, prinzipiell. *Sicher:* Dort brauchst Du auch bei Azure Geld, und diese Dinge sind *teuer*. Aber insbesondere für vorübergehende Anforderungen sind sie billiger, als sich vergleichbare Server selbst zu kaufen / zu finanzieren, den Prozess (Zeit, Aufwand) des Einkaufs mal gar nicht mit gerechnet. Und: Bei solchen Modellen (das kann auch unser Partner jetzt schon) kann ich allmählich skalieren, wenn ich wachse. Bei unseren eigenen HP-Systemen mit VMWare hatten wir turnusmäßig enorme "Sprung-Aufwände", weil mit dem Erreichen der Hardwaregrenzen meist notwendig waren (a) neue Server, (b) neue oder erweitere VMWare-Lizenzen und (c - im Allgemeinen schlimmster Posten) Aufwand für Migration von Daten und Maschinen. Wenn Du vier Dutzend große VMs und eine mittlere zweistellige Zahl an TB an Live-Storage auf neue Hardware migrieren willst und kaum Downtime haben darfst, ist das ein Projekt, das Dich eine ganze Weile beschäftigt. Über Vergrößerung oder Ersatz einer Internet-Standleitung mit dem Ziel schnellerer Anbindung reden wir in DE lieber gar nicht...
- Dadurch, dass die großen Anbieter international unterwegs sind, kannst Du Dinge realisieren, die Du im Selfhosting oder mit "lokalen" Partnern nicht hinbekommst. Eine unserer Schwesterfirmen sitzt in UK, sind um die 50 Leute und betreut Kunden in UK - und Hongkong. An letzterem Standort war die Anforderung, dass die Server-Infrastruktur und die Daten vor Ort zu stehen haben. In Selfhosting auch ein Großprojekt. Mit Azure haben die Kollegen (die anders als wir sehr eng an dem ganzen Microsoft-Stack hängen) faktisch die Dienste in der Admin-UI in die andere Zone "geklickt" - problem solved. In unserem Markt ist Autodesk mit einer Collaboration-Lösung (BIM Field 360) unterwegs, die vor einigen Jahren mit viel Rummel angekündigt wurde - und von vornherein als "BIM 360 powered by Amazon AWS" und dem Subtext: "*Selbstverständlich* werden wir als Autodesk für weltweit operierende Kunden *keine* eigenen Server betreiben. Das ist nicht unser Kerngeschäft und viel zu aufwändig und teuer - wir nutzen Amazon, die können das."
Persönlich bin ich nach wie vor der Freund regionaler Partner, bevorzugt solcher, die annähernd gleich groß wie die eigene Organisation sind, weil das gewisse Probleme verhindert, die man mit deutlich größeren Lieferanten durchaus haben kann. Aber in diesem ganzen Dunstkreis habe ich immer massiver die Sorge, dass der europäische IT-Sektor irgendwann gänzlich irrelevant wird - weil wir hier teilweise Firmen haben, die in 2020 immer noch mit Low-Level-Dingen wie File- oder DB-Hosting beschäftigt sind und in nahezu allen relevanten Bereichen überholt werden von (leider vorrangig aus Übersee stammenden) Startups, die auf den großen Cloud-Diensten aufsetzen und dort schnell "in die Gänge" kommen.
Um das einzufangen, braucht es nicht mehr Regularien wie die DSGVO, obwohl diese Dinge auch ihre Berechtigung haben. Hier bräuchte es vor allem eine klare Strategie, europäische Alternativen zu Azure, AWS, ... zu fördern in geeigneten organisatorischen Strukturen, aber *genau* derselben Skalierbarkeit und Reichweite. Dort könnte auch FLOSS wieder helfen - Systeme wie eben OpenStack sind zumindest Open Source und könnten hier eine solide, offene technische Grundlage bieten. Aber es braucht "Akteure" (Firmen, große Genossenschaften, .....?), die daraus ein Betriebsmodell bauen und entwickeln und das am "Markt" so weit etablieren, dass es konkurenzfähig mit Azure wird. Dort passiert aus meiner Sicht leider viel zu wenig...

Sorry, das war etwas OT und selbst eine Speicherverschwendung, aber das Kostenargument bei Office 365 dürfte trotzdem relevant sein, wenn z.B. meine Kirchgemeinde allein dafür neu jedes Jahr einige zehntausend Franken ausgibt, nur weil der Verantwortliche ein MS-Fan ist und es allen anderen egal ist.
Ob das viel ist, kommt auf die Anzahl der Arbeitsplätze an. 8-/
Grundsätzlich halte ich das Kostenargument auch aus anderen Gründen für verdächtig, weil es uns eigentlich um Dinge geht, die sich gar nicht in Geld messen lassen. Ich möchte auch nicht in einer Branche von Billigheimern arbeiten.
