Hallo zusammen,
Die Linzer Fellowship Gruppe hat vor, zur nächsten u:book[1] Verkaufsaktion unter dem (Arbeits-)Titel „Free your u:book“ Workshops abzuhalten. Ziel wäre es, interessierten Studierenden dabei zu helfen, auf ihren Laptops Linux einzurichten.
Wem die u:book Aktion nichts sagt, hier eine kurze Erklärung: Bei der Aktion geht es darum, für Angehörige der österreichischen Hochschulen (Studis + Angestellte) hochqualitative Notebooks relativ günstig anzubieten.
Es gibt jeweils zum Semesteranfang ein drei- bis vierwöchiges Verkaufsfenster, d.h. alle Käufer bekommen ihre Geräte ungefähr zur selben Zeit. Außerdem gehört Linux-Kompatibilität zu den Auswahlkriterien für die angebotenen Modelle, was unsere Arbeit natürlich erleichtert.
Aus unserer Sicht wäre die Aktion eine gute Gelegenheit, unsere Sichtbarkeit an den Unis zu erhöhen. Sollte sich der eine oder die andere dazu motivieren lassen, sich im Fellowship der FSFE zu engagieren, wäre das ein erwünschter Nebeneffekt.
Im Fokus der Linzer Fellowship Gruppe stehen primär die JKU Linz und die FH Hagenberg. Wenn wir Mitstreiter finden, um daraus vielleicht sogar eine österreichweite Fellowship-Aktion zu machen, wäre das natürlich super.
Weil Executive Summaries so modern sind, hier nochmal alles als Kurzzusammenfassung:
- 1 Workshop pro Uni, 2-4 Stunden - Terminlich kurz nach dem jeweiligen Verkaufsfenster - Nach Möglichkeit Involvierung lokaler LUGs - Fokus auf u:book Notebooks
Erhoffte Wirkung: - Generell bessere Sichtbarkeit freier Software unter Studierenden - Sichtbares Auftreten des Fellowships an Bildungseinrichtungen -> eventuell neue Mitglieder (wäre auch für manche LUG ein guter Nebeneffekt) - Linux in einem „geschützten Rahmen“ erlebbar machen
Was sind eure Gedanken zu dem Vorschlag?

auch wenn ich bei den letzten, regionalen Treffen schon lange nicht mehr anwesend war finde ich die Idee sehr gut. Hier können wir vmtl. auch die ein odere andere Person abholen, die sich noch nicht getraut hat, mit "unbekannten" Systemen zu arbeiten.
Als Idee wäre ein kurzer Leitfaden (1 A4 Seite) sinnvoll, wo kurz das Ziel erklärt wird, für diejenigen die mitmachen wollen, beispielsweise folgendermaßen:
- Block 1: Installation eines freien Betriebssystems und Einrichtung von E-Mail und Co. - Block 2: Back-to-the-Roots (für diejenigen, die schon $freies_os nutzen): E-Mail-Verschlüsselung, warum, wieso, weshalb - und vor allem wie? - Block 3: Mein Leben als $job_description unter $freies_os
Ich persönlich glaube, dass Block 3 schon wieder zu weit geht, aber vielleicht nett wäre, um den Interessierten zu zeigen, dass auch entwickelt/studiert/gelernt werden kann, wenn einmal nicht $closed_os verwendet wird.

Mit gefällt die Idee mit den Workshops sehr gut und würde mich bei Bedarf auch vor Ort an der TU Wien beteiligen.
Ich kann bei Debienna (Debian User Group), wenns mal konkreter wird, auch nachfragen ob es da Interesse gibt etwas zu tun/helfen..

Ich fände auch den 3ten Block interessant. Aber ich wüsste nicht mal einen gemeinsamen Nenner zwischen den Fakultäten der TU Wien. Zwischen Informatik bis hin zur Architektur bleibt da kaum eine Gemeinsamkeit übrig.
Ich fände es auf jeden Fall toll, wenn auch eine Referenz zu LUGs auf diesem Leitfaden sind.

leider verschwindet die Möglichkeit die Geräte ohne Windows zu kaufen (~100€ Unterschied) immer mehr durch das Aufkommen der Ultrabooks. Verkaufen der Lizenz ist auch kaum möglich, da angeblich an Hardware gebunden und Key im UEFI versteckt.
Deswegen zwei Vorschläge/Bitten:
1. Anfragen wie man die Lizenz zurückgeben kann, da man die EULA nicht akzeptiert. Die Chancen sind minimal, aber wäre gut wenn die Händler realisieren dass das Bundeln von Notebooks und Windows vielen Leuten zuwider ist.
2. Für all die fsfe-de nicht lesen, es gibt eine Petition gegen Zwangslizenzen auf Notebooks: http://no.more.racketware.info/petition/click/en (aber Vorsicht, avaaz spammt gleich mal drauf los wenn man nicht gleich unsubscribed, und schickt dann eine confirmation mail mit resubscribe link statt des üblichen unsubscribe confirm link)

Diesbezüglich schaut es bei der ubook Aktion zum Glück noch relativ gut aus: Bei den meisten Modellen kann man beim Kauf wählen, ob man mit oder ohne Windowsinstallation kaufen möchte. Bei den Apple Modellen bzw. iOS schaut es bei ubook natürlich genauso düster aus wie sonst auch.

Grundsätzlich ja, afaik waren letztes Semester noch alle? Lenovos ohne Win zu kriegen. Dieses ist es schon deutlich düsterer gewesen, vielleicht bin ich ja nur zu pessimistisch, aber ich werd das Gefühl nicht los das durch Win8.1/UEFI/Utrabook schlimme Zeiten anbrechen könnten. Beim Apfel ist die Sache noch im deutlich helleren Graubereich (bzw imo sogar recht eindeutig legal) als bei MS. Microsoft hat ein Quasimonopol im Desktopmarkt durch das die Legalität von Bundeling etc doch realistisch angezweifelt werden kann. Nach dem IE Urteil der EU und der Richtlinie 2005/29/EG ist es wohl auch nicht allzu unwahrscheinlich das da noch eine Richtlinie in die Richtung kommen könnte. Aber die Mühlen der EU mahlen langsam.
Es wäre sicher eine gute Idee, beim Workshop entsprechendes Infomaterial anzubieten.
leider schauts da nicht so super aus damit, auf der noracketware Seite ist die Promotion-Sektion praktisch leer. Auf deutsch gibt es sowieso nichts (wenn jemand Zeit hat kann man übersetzen, ich hab leider keine :() Ich muss für Graz noch schnell was zamschustern, den "Banner" (imo etwas zu quadratisch für die Bezeichnung) mit QR-Code zur Petition. Aber vielleicht finde ich allgemeine Texte zu dem Thema in den Windowstax wikipages.
