Hab ich da was verpasst, VP8 war doch immer als freier Standard konzipiert, oder irre ich mich da?

naja immer stimmt ned ganz afaik: *) wurde properitaer entwickelt, mit dem ziel nicht die patent probleme von h264 zu haben *) wurde dann (mit der firma) von google gekauft und veroeffentlicht, mit genau dem ziel als offener standard zu dienen.
die androhungen von wegen patenten sind in dem zusammenhang nix neues, nur hat das halt lange keiner ausprobiert vor gericht wirklich zu klagen.
das viel bedenklichere als einzelne patente im speziellen ist aber meiner meiunung nach, das es anscheinend bereiche (noch dazu in software) gibt, wo es praktisch unmoeglich zu sein scheint um diesen schmarrn rumzukommen

ps: und ja ich weisz das patente mal durchaus eienn sinn hatten, nur die verwendungen die ich in letzter zeit mitbekomm gehen eindeutig am ziel vorbei, das wichtiges wissen grundsaetzlich veroeffentlicht wird und es halt einen kleinen anreiz dafuer gibt es zu veroffentlichen.

Urheberrecht/Copyright (vulgo "Lizenz") sind orthogonal/unabhängig zu Patenten - wenn man Patenjuristen glauben will. Drohen kann man bald - u.U. auch nur, um FUD zu erzeugen ohne daß ein echter Prozeß geführt wird, um damit den schon möglichst früh abzuwürgen. Und weil die üblichen Patente (nicht nur Softwarepatente und selbst Trivialpatente) für den "expert in the area" so trivial lesbar und verständlich sind, kann man schlecht etwas kionstruktives dagegen schreiben ohne eine halber Patenanwalt/Patenrechtsguru zu sein.
Aber Hauptsache, mit Patenten wird irgendwas veröffentlicht. Schon eher ist das eine praktische Anwendung von Steganographie ....
