Protokoll Fellowshiptreffen 19. August 2016 (im OCG-Büro, im Heinz Zemanek Saal) Agenda von 19:10 – ca. 21:30 Uhr, danach noch gemütliches Beisammensein 10 Personen anwesend (1 neu)
1) Bericht vom Socialising Sunday am 31. Juli in Wien
Es kamen 11 Personen zum Grillen beim Rohrbacherweg. Es sind auch extra Leute aus Graz und Linz dafür angereist. Offiziell fand das Treffen zwischen 11 und 18 Uhr statt. (Danach regnete es.) Die Vorbereitungen begannen bereits um etwa 7 Uhr. Die besorgte Holzkohle war von der lang glühenden Sorte, die deswegen auch lange gebraucht hat, bis sie endlich eine nutzbare Hitze erzeugte. Vor Ort anwesende andere Leute gaben allerdings schneller heiß werdende Holzkohle her, die dann auch rascher zu einer tatsächlichen Grillhitze führen konnte. Es wurde nicht nur Fleisch, sondern auch Gemüse gegrillt.
2) Planung Software Freedom Conference in Linz
Die Veranstaltung soll am 13. Mai 2017 im Wissensturm in Linz stattfinden. Zugleich mit den Linuxwochen in Linz. Das schafft Synergien. In Ergänzung zum eher praktisch orientierten Programm der Linuxwochen soll die die Software Freedom Conference eher politisch ausgelegt sein. Als Zielgruppe soll CE (Zentral- und Osteuropa) angepeilt werden. Deswegen soll es auch englischsprachige Beiträge geben.
Gollo brachte die Idee zu Postersessions ein, bei denen Themen aus wissenschaftlichen Bereichen aufgegriffen werden könnten. Das Spektrum soll absichtlich nicht bloß technisch ausgelegt sein, sondern auch Inputs aus beispielsweise Politikwissenschaft, Soziologie und Philosophie einbinden.
Der Wissensturm gehört der VHS Linz und wir können ein ganzes Stockwerk mit angemessener technischer Ausrüstung nutzen. Wir haben einen großen Saal mit etwa 100 Plätzen und zwei kleinere Säle zur Verfügung. In einem der kleineren Säle sind permanente Infostände geplant.
Wegen unserem technischen Thema/Publikum ist es vermutlich nötig eine potentere Internetanbindung als das normale WLAN zu organisieren. Wenn die Firma KAPPA als Sponsor für den Event gewonnen werden könnte, wäre es eventuell möglich eine Glasfaserverbindung über sie zu bekommen. Gleich neben dem Wissensturm gibt es ein Ibis-Hotel und Jugendherbergen in der Umgebung sollten noch auf verfügbare Plätze geprüft werden. Michael würde mitfilmen. (Ein Live-Stream scheint für diesmal überambitioniert.)
Um die Organisation bekannterer Vortragende müsste sich möglichst bald jemand kümmern. Chris könnte der Projektkoordinator sein. Alle, die bei der Organisation helfen könnten, sind herzlich eingeladen sich zu melden. (Florian, Franz und Martin Š.) haben sich für die Aufnahme in die Mailingliste zur Organisation des Events gemeldet.
3) Gesetzesänderung (bzw. Verordnung) für WLAN-Router
Eine EU-Richtlinie fordert, dass alle Mitgliedsstaaten die Einhaltung der geltenden gemeinsamen Vorgaben für die Regelung von WLAN-Netzen sicherstellen. Dinge wie Frequenzbereiche und Sendestärken sind konkret beschränkt damit ein Einsatz dieser Technik zuverlässig möglich ist. (Unreguliert würden sich unterschiedliche Netze gegenseitig stören.) Der Einsatz nicht zugelassener technischer Funkeinrichtungen ist in Österreich schon jetzt verboten. Entsprechende Anlagen können in Österreich auf drei verschiedene Wege zugelassen werden:
A) Auf Geräteklassen-Ebene: Geräte, die in Österreich im Handel erhältlich sind, fallen in diese Kategorie. Es ist allerdings aufwändig eine Geräteklasse zuzulassen weil die Prüfungsmechanismen umfangreich sind.
B) Eine Einzelzulassung für eine konkrete Einrichtung: Das muss in jedem Einzelfall gemacht werden und kommt in der Praxis nur bei größeren Institutionen zum Einsatz, wo zum Beispiel firmeninterne Netzwerke eingerichtet werden sollen.
C) Auf Personenebene: Amateurfunker müssen eine Ausbildung machen und können anschließend auch nicht zugelassene Geräte in ihrer Amateurfunk-Praxis einsetzen. Sie sind dann aber selbst dafür verantwortlich die gesetzlichen Rahmenbedingungen einzuhalten. Sie dürfen nicht zugelassene Geräte jenseits ihrer Amateurfunk-Praxis aber ebenfalls nicht verwenden.
Österreich versucht die EU-Richtlinie umzusetzen indem nur Geräte zugelassen werden sollen, die gar keine technische Möglichkeit haben Netze jenseits der gesetzlichen Vorgaben zu betreiben. In den letzten Jahren sind allerdings die Hersteller von Routern (und auch von anderer Funk-Hardware) immer mehr dazu übergegangen Allzweckgeräte zu bauen, bei denen die technischen Möglichkeiten nicht über die Hardware definiert sind, sondern über die mitgelieferte Software. Das liegt daran, dass es für sie mit wachsender Verfügbarkeit entsprechend performanter/anpassungsfähiger Hardware wirtschaftlicher ist unterschiedliche Funktionen über die Software zu realisieren. (Die selben Chips können in höheren Auflagen produziert werden wenn ihre Funktion nur über die Software bestimmt wird. Höhere Auflagen der selben Chips sind billiger als geringere Auflagen mehrerer verschiedener.) Die Kombination aus gesetzlichen Einschränkungen und dem Einsatz von Allzweckhardware führt allerdings zu einem Grundsatzproblem. Wenn Eigenschaften eines Geräts für dessen Zulassung unveränderlich sein müssen, dann müssen auch alle Software-Updates vor ihrem Einsatz zertifiziert werden. Wann immer also eine Sicherheitslücke entdeckt wird, müsste der Behebung dieses Fehlers eine Zertifizierung dieses Sicherheitsupdates vorausgehen. Weil dieser Prozess aufwändig und mühsam ist, machen Hersteller oft keine Updates. (Genau das ist zum Beispiel in Deutschland bereits in großem Umfang passiert als ein Großteil der von einem wichtigen Anbieter zur Verfügung gestellten Router in einem Botnetz missbraucht wurde.) Dass Funkschnittstellen mit bekannten Sicherheitslücken betrieben werden, kann also nicht im allgemeinen Interesse sein.
Zusätzlich entsteht ein Problem mit Freier Software weil eines ihrer Grundprinzipien ist, dass sie von allen beliebig angepasst werden darf. Allzweckhardware kann aber – je nach Software – auch jenseits der erlaubten Normen operieren. Es könnten zwar grundsätzlich auch Geräte mit entsprechend zertifiziert vorkonfigurierter Freier Software angeboten werden, aber es ist bei Freier Software grundsätzlich unzulässig ihre Abänderung zu verhindern.
Weil mittlerweile die Hardware in Routern kaum noch unterscheidbar von in Computern verbauten WLAN-Komponenten ist, ist das Problem weitreichender als auf den ersten Blick ersichtlich. Noch nicht mal die Entwicklung einer Freien Hardware-Lösung über einen Crowd-Chip kann diesbezüglich Abhilfe schaffen, weil es um ein Grundsatzproblem geht.
Das vorgeschlagene Gesetz bzw. die Verordnung geht uns zu weit. Unerlaubte Betriebsparameter zu verunmöglichen erzeugt in der Praxis schwerwiegende Sicherheitslücken und nimmt der Bevölkerung das Recht selbst gewählte bzw. angepasste Lösungen einzusetzen. Selbst eine eventuell mögliche Verpflichtung zur Behebung von bekannten Fehlern bei zugelassenen Geräten würde noch die Wahlfreiheit der Bevölkerung verletzen, da diese Verpflichtung beim Einsatz Freier Software in der Praxis nicht durchsetzbar wäre.
Als einzige praktikable Option bleibt anscheinend eine Vorschrift, die den Betrieb von Sende- und Empfangsstationen jenseits der erlaubten Normen verbietet und ein Zuwiderhandeln mit ausreichend relevanten Sanktionen bedroht.
4) FSFE Summit
Uns sind 3-4 Leute aus Wien bekannt, die zur FSFE Summit kommen werden. Nur 10 bis 15 Minuten entfernt vom Veranstaltungsort gibt es ein Hotel in dem zuletzt noch um 39 Euro pro Nacht Zimmer verfügbar waren. Es ist allerdings dringend benötigte Übernachtungen zu buchen weil in der Stadt gleichzeitig eine andere große Konferenz stattfindet und es deswegen schwer sein wird später noch Plätze zu bekommen. In der Nähe der U6 können angeblich noch bei „3 Little Pigs“ Schlafsaalplätze gebucht werden.
5) EOMA68 – Free Hardware Projekt auf Crowd Supply
Ein Mitbetreiber von thinkpenguin.com arbeitet bereits seit 5 Jahren an der Entwicklung eines neuen Standards, bei dem nur die zentrale Recheneinheit und der Arbeitsspeicher ausgetauscht werden müssen, wenn der alte Computer nicht mehr performant genug ist.
In ein Gehäuse im alten PCMCIA Formfaktor aus den 90er-Jahren wird ein ARM-Chip mit Motherboard und Arbeitsspeicher verbaut, der leicht wie eine Steckkarte zwischen Peripherie-Systemen gewechselt werden kann. Das Herzstück dieses Computers ist also etwas kleiner als ein modernes Smartphone und kostet etwa 65 Dollar. Durch ein einfaches Umstecken wird es damit möglich im wesentlichen den selben sparsamen Rechner als Notebook und als Desktop einzusetzen.
Interessant ist das Projekt vor allem weil die „Libre Tea Computer Card“ sogar das FSF „Respects Your Freedom“-Sigel bietet, das bisher anscheinend noch kein vollständiger, neu entwickelter Rechner erreichen konnte.
Allerdings muss angemerkt werden, dass es sich bei diesem Projekt um kein High-End-Gerät handelt. Es kann mit anderen aktuellen Geräten in Hinsicht auf Performanz und Variabilität vermutlich nicht mithalten, da es beispielsweise nur einen Dual-Core ARM-Prozessor mit 1.2 GHz hat und lediglich einen HDMI und zwei USB2-Anschlüsse bietet.
In der Crowd-Funding-Kampagne werden optional ein hölzernes Mikrodesktop-Gehäuse um 50 Dollar und ein 3D-gedrucktes Notebook um 1200 Dollar (inklusive EOMA-Karte) angeboten. Weil alle Spezifikationen offen liegen, ist es aber natürlich auch möglich alles selbst zusammenzustellen und sein eigenes Gehäuse auszudrucken.
Die Anschlüsse werden voraussichtlich nur eine unüblich kleine Übertragungsgeschwindigkeit zulassen und das Gehäuse vom 3D-Drucker kann sehr wahrscheinlich weder in Hinsicht auf seine Belastbarkeit, noch in Hinsicht auf seine Schlankheit mit speziell angefertigten Gehäusen mithalten, die im gewöhnlichen Handel erhältlich sind. Abgesehen davon beschränkt der gewählte Formfaktor wegen seinen wenigen Anschlüssen die potenziellen Einsatzmöglichkeiten. Weiters ist der wegen der bestmöglichen Unterstützung des Prozessors gewählte Linuxkernel 3.4 dafür bekannt einen schlechten Security-Update-Support zu haben.
Das Projekt hat auf Crowd Supply heute die 100.000 Dollar-Marke überschritten, hat aber 150.000 Dollar angepeilt. Es steht in den Sternen ob die in den verbleibenden 6 Tagen noch erreicht werden können.

6) Gamy City Messe von 23. - 25. September in Wien
Die wiener Gruppe der FSFE will auch dieses Jahr wieder gemeinsam mit Horst von Spielend Programmieren auf der Gamecity Messe einen Infostand betreiben. Es ist angepeilt erneut die ermäßigten Standkosten zu teilen, sofern die leistbar sind. Leider hat KaiRo nach seinem Ausscheiden als Angestellter keine stabilen Kontakte zu Mozilla mehr und kann daher auch nicht mehr vermitteln um auch Mozilla zu einem Stand auf der Messe zu motivieren.
KaiRo hat aber angekündigt, dass er als Communitymitglied bei Mozilla demnächst wieder zu einem Stammtisch zum Thema „HTTP2“ einladen will.
7) Wieso hat Debian kürzlich von Iceweasel zurück auf Firefox (ESR) gewechselt?
Schon seit Jahren war seitens Mozilla anscheinend anerkannt, dass Debains Nutzung der Software keine Probleme verursachen würde. Weil aber seit der massiven Diskussion 2006, die ja zur Umbenennung in Iceweasel führte, niemand mehr diese Diskussion neu entfachen wollte, ist es trotzdem lange bei dieser Regelung geblieben. Als letzten Akt vor dem Verlassen ihrer Rolle hat allerdings eine Schlüsselfigur vorgeschlagen, dass Debian wieder das Firefox-Originalbranding verwenden könnte. Da es nirgendwo einen Widerspruch gab, ist das dann auch so umgesetzt worden. DRM ist im Übrigen laut KaiRo in Firefox auf MAC und Windows nur so implementiert, dass beim Vorhandensein von entsprechenden DRM-Inhalten eine Meldung angezeigt wird, die es möglich macht diese Erweiterung zu aktivieren. Wenn die Option abgewählt wird, dann wird auch die gesamte DRM-Erweiterung wieder deinstalliert. Ob diese Erweiterung in Debian komplett weggelassen oder nur deaktiviert wurde, konnte KaiRo nicht beantworten.

In der Crowd-Funding-Kampagne werden optional ein hölzernes Mikrodesktop-Gehäuse um 50 Dollar und ein 3D-gedrucktes Notebook um 1200 Dollar (inklusive EOMA-Karte) angeboten. Weil alle Spezifikationen offen liegen, ist es aber natürlich auch möglich alles selbst zusammenzustellen und sein eigenes Gehäuse auszudrucken.
Die Anschlüsse werden voraussichtlich nur eine unüblich kleine Übertragungsgeschwindigkeit zulassen und das Gehäuse vom 3D-Drucker kann sehr wahrscheinlich weder in Hinsicht auf seine Belastbarkeit, noch in Hinsicht auf seine Schlankheit mit speziell angefertigten Gehäusen mithalten, die im gewöhnlichen Handel erhältlich sind. Abgesehen davon beschränkt der gewählte Formfaktor wegen seinen wenigen Anschlüssen die potenziellen Einsatzmöglichkeiten. Weiters ist der wegen der bestmöglichen Unterstützung des Prozessors gewählte Linuxkernel 3.4 dafür bekannt einen schlechten Security-Update-Support zu haben.
Das Projekt hat auf Crowd Supply heute die 100.000 Dollar-Marke überschritten, hat aber 150.000 Dollar angepeilt. Es steht in den Sternen ob die in den verbleibenden 6 Tagen noch erreicht werden können.

Die wiener Gruppe der FSFE will auch dieses Jahr wieder gemeinsam mit Horst von Spielend Programmieren auf der Gamecity Messe einen Infostand betreiben. Es ist angepeilt erneut die ermäßigten Standkosten zu teilen, sofern die leistbar sind. Leider hat KaiRo nach seinem Ausscheiden als Angestellter keine stabilen Kontakte zu Mozilla mehr und kann daher auch nicht mehr vermitteln um auch Mozilla zu einem Stand auf der Messe zu motivieren.
KaiRo hat aber angekündigt, dass er als Communitymitglied bei Mozilla demnächst wieder zu einem Stammtisch zum Thema „HTTP2“ einladen will.
- Wieso hat Debian kürzlich von Iceweasel zurück auf Firefox (ESR)
gewechselt?
Schon seit Jahren war seitens Mozilla anscheinend anerkannt, dass Debains Nutzung der Software keine Probleme verursachen würde. Weil aber seit der massiven Diskussion 2006, die ja zur Umbenennung in Iceweasel führte, niemand mehr diese Diskussion neu entfachen wollte, ist es trotzdem lange bei dieser Regelung geblieben. Als letzten Akt vor dem Verlassen ihrer Rolle hat allerdings eine Schlüsselfigur vorgeschlagen, dass Debian wieder das Firefox-Originalbranding verwenden könnte. Da es nirgendwo einen Widerspruch gab, ist das dann auch so umgesetzt worden. DRM ist im Übrigen laut KaiRo in Firefox auf MAC und Windows nur so implementiert, dass beim Vorhandensein von entsprechenden DRM-Inhalten eine Meldung angezeigt wird, die es möglich macht diese Erweiterung zu aktivieren. Wenn die Option abgewählt wird, dann wird auch die gesamte DRM-Erweiterung wieder deinstalliert. Ob diese Erweiterung in Debian komplett weggelassen oder nur deaktiviert wurde, konnte KaiRo nicht beantworten.

Ist das nicht gleichzeitig mit der WearFair? Und angesichts der großen Trommelei für die Wearfair frage ich mich ob es überhaupt noch freiwillige gibt, die dann zur gleichen Zeit auf der Game City sein könnten?

Also ich werde auf jeden Fall auf der Game City vertreten sein. Und ich gehe auch nicht davon aus, dass wirklich alle anderen potenziell verfügbaren Leute unserer Gruppe aus Wien nach Linz fahren werden.

Hab ich mir gedacht, ich hab sie mal einfach so kontaktiert, und sie hat gemeint, dass 1) sie jeneflass interessiert ist, da teilzunehmen, und 2) sie generell mit der FSFE in näheren Kontakt kommen will "about our EU copyright reform work".
Also zu Nr.1 sollten wir sie jedenfalls im Auge behalten und mit ihr rechnen, wir können auch bei Mozilla wegen anderer Unterstützung (Sponsoring oder so) anfragen, wenn benötigt und wir mehr wissen.
Zu Nr. 2, wer ist da ein guter Ansprechpartner für sie?
