ich bekomme trotz allem immer mal wieder unerwünschte Anhänge von Leuten, die nicht verstehen, dass proprietäre Formate keine geeigneten Anhänge für E-Mails sind.
Deswegen habe ich jetzt mal eine Zusammenfassung geschrieben. Vielleicht habt Ihr ja auch Lust in solchen Fällen eine erklärende Antwort zu schicken, aber bisher keine Lust gehabt das zusammenzuschreiben.
Wenn Ihr wollt, könnt ihr ab jetzt meinen unten stehenden Text adaptieren...

bitte sende mir in Zukunft keine Dateien in proptietären* Formaten (wie z.B. .doc) mehr! Solche Dateien können ausschließlich Leute öffnen, die ganz bestimmte (gefährliche) Programme benutzen.
Warum sind proprietäre Dateien gefährlich?
Die herstellenden Firmen verheimlichen die Vorgänge in ihren Programmen als "Geschäftsgeheimnisse" vor der Öffentlichkeit. Noch nicht einmal Behörden dürfen überprüfen, was darin vorgeht. Die zusätzliche Geheimhaltung des Aufbaus der Dateiformate dieser Programme verhindert gezielt, dass andere Programme zum Bearbeiten eingesetzt werden können.
Jedes Dokument in einem proprietären Format ist ein Problem. Es zwingt alle, die es benutzen wollen, das dazu gehördende Programm der jeweiligen Firma einzusetzen.
Unternehmen abrbeiten gewinnorientiert. Es wäre naiv zu erwarten, dass sie unsere Interessen schützen, wenn es ihnen mehr Profit bringt unsere Interessen zu übergehen. Kundendaten werden vielfältig verkauft und ausgewertet. Warum sollten wir unsere Daten blind irgendwelchen Konzernen überlassen?
Lösung: Freie Software und offene Standards
Freie Software ist zwar meist kostenlos verfügbar, aber das Wort "frei" bezieht sich dabei nicht auf den Preis, sondern auf vier wichtige Freiheiten, die uns proprietäre Software selbst dann nicht gewährt, wenn uns erlaubt wird sie als "Freeware" kostenlos zu verwenden:
Wir dürfen Freie Software... 1) ... zu jedem beliebigen Zweck einsetzen 2) ... vollständig überprüfen 3) ... beliebig oft kopieren und weitergeben 4) ... anpassen und verändert weitergeben
Diese vier Freiheiten erlösen uns aus der Abhängigkeit, in die uns proprietäre Software bringt. Bei Freier Software müssen wir uns keine Sorgen machen irgendwelche Nutzungsbeschränkungen zu verletzen. Wir dürfen mit freien Programmen unbeschränkt tun, was uns gefällt.
Weil alle Vorgänge in Freier Software öffentlich zugänglich und veränderbar sind, können keine für uns unvorteilhaften Abläufe darin versteckt werden.
Da Freie Software ausschließlich offene Standards als Dateiformate einsetzt, hindert uns nichts daran unsere Dateien mit alternativen Programmen zu bearbeiten, wenn uns ein bestimmtes Programm nicht gefällt.
Wie kommt Freie Software zu Stande? Wer bezahlt die Entwicklung?
Ein großer Anteil der laufend entwickelten Software wird nicht für den Verkauf erstellt. Viele Programme werden geschrieben um konkrete Anforderungen jenseits der Vermarktung als Software zu erfüllen. Die Programmierarbeit wird dabei nicht nachträglich über den Verkauf von Kopien finanziert, sondern sie ist Teil des Gesamtbudgets des jeweiligen Projekts. Auf diesem Weg als Nebenprodukt entstehende Software ist fertig finanziert, sobald sie vollendet ist.
Solche Programme erfüllen die jeweiligen Aufgaben oft besonders gut, denn im Gegensatz zu Software, die für den Verkauf entwickelt wird, wäre es dabei ein Nachteil die Anwender_innen von anderen Produkten abhängig zu machen.
Weil sie häufig keinen Vorteil darin sehen die bereits erarbeiteten Programme nicht mit dem Rest der Welt zu teilen, entschließen sich immer öfter Programmierer_innen solche Programme unter einer freien Lizenz zu veröffentlichen. Somit werden sie zu Freier Software.
Freie Software kann weltweit von allen, die das möchten und können, in verschiedenste Richtungen weiterentwickelt werden. Proprietäre Software dürfen nur die jeweiligen Rechteinhaber_innen bearbeiten.
Proprietäre Software hat mit ihrem extrem beschränkenden und lähmenden Besitzanspruch keine Chance dauerhaft neben dem überlegenen Konzept der gemeinschaftlichen Weiterentwicklung zu bestehen. Im Moment versuchen die bisher erfolgreichsten Konzerne immer verzweifelter durch besonders rigide Einschränkungen Alternativen zu unterdrücken, damit sie ihre bereits schwindende Übermacht nicht verlieren.
Lass Dich nicht von dem Umstand hinters Licht führen, dass proprietäre Programme mehr Dateiformate beherrschen als freie Alternativen! Die zusätzlichen Formate neben den offenen Standards zählen nicht, denn sie sind es, die uns abhängig machen. Selbst wenn die unfreien Formate im Moment in manchen Fällen sogar noch die am häufigsten verwendeten Dateiformate sind, zwingen sie uns die Verwendung intransparenter Programme auf, denen wir nicht vertrauen können, wenn wir selbstbestimmt sein wollen.
