Das Bauernopfer kann ich noch nicht recht erkennen. Aber vielleicht lebt ja demnächst (nach der Wahl?) der Bundes-Client wieder auf, auf Basis eines schlaueren OS als Windows.

Ich sehe hier ebenfalls kein Bauernopfer, nur einen nicht ganz glücklich gewählten Titel.
Was mir an dieser Berichterstattung aber extrem gut gefällt, ist der "Spin", den die ganze Trusted-Computing- Sache genommen hat.
Früher wurde gegen Trusted Computing nur argumentiert, dass es die Sicherheit nicht wirklich erhöhe, und dafür zu viele Freiheiten des Nutzers opfere. Es galt einfach als "schlechter Deal" zwischen Freiheit und Sicherheit.
Heute haben die Trusted-Computing-Entwickler es so weit getrieben, dass ihnen der einzig verkaufbare Vorteil, der vermeintliche Sicherheitsgewinn, auch nicht mehr abgenommen wird. Und sogar ins Gegenteil verkehrt wird: Trusted Computing wird als Sicherheits-Risiko gesehen.
Diese Entwicklung begrüße ich sehr! Eine solche Wendung hätte ich damals, als Trusted Computing aufkam, nie für möglich gehalten.

Kleine Anmerkung: Im Kasten am Rand des Artikels findet sich folgender Satz:

Die Grammatik in diesem Satz ist absolut korrekt, aber ich musste ihn mindestens dreimal lesen, um ihn endlich zu verstehen.

Natürlich stellt der Hinweis auf bestimmte Risiken auch eine "Warnung" dar. Damit wird genau genommen schon vor einem Aspekt von Windows 8 gewarnt; aber erheblich begrenzer, als sich das verkürzt darstellt. Sonst würden praktisch alle vor Windows 8 warnen, weil es da in vielen Aspekten Risiken gibt. Die Kritik des BSIs (und der Bundesregierung) an Windows 8 mit TPM 2.0 ist aus meiner Sicht nachhaltig und gravierend. Am wirksamsten ist sie präzise angewandt.
Schön aus meiner Sicht: "Generell sollte es IT-Anwendern ermöglicht werden, einen selbstbestimmten und eigenverantwortlichen Umgang mit Informationstechnik zu pflegen. Dazu gehört beipielsweise auch die Möglichkeit, nach eigenem Ermessen alternative Betriebssysteme und Anwendungen einsetzen zu können."

Gibt es nicht eine gesellschaftliche Tendenz zur Flucht vor den Zumutungen der Mündigkeit?
Und ist nicht das eines unserer größeren Probleme?
Erleben wir das derzeit nicht bei der Frage der Verschlüsselung, wo der Haupteinwand ist, diese sei zu unbequem, kompliziert, kurz zu anstrengend?
Wenn keine "wirklich sichere" "Ein-Klick"-Lösung geboten wird, können Demokratie und bürgerliche Freiheit ruhig den Bach 'runtergehen?

Nein, wieso denkst Du das sei so?

Meines Erachtens nach nicht. Die größten Probleme sind Ernährungs- und Wasserknappheit, Gier und Umweltverschmutzung. Und bei deren (auch indirekter) Bekämpfung ist die Mündigkeit hilfreich, aber weder hinreichend noch Voraussetzung.
Sicher haben Monsanto, Coca-Cola/Nestlé, Deutsche Bank und Shell alle auch Aktien in den Bereichen, die freie Software behindern, aber vordringlich ist die Tendenz zur Flucht vor den Zumutungen der Mündigkeit in diesen nicht wichtig.
Erleben wir das derzeit nicht bei der Frage der Verschlüsselung, wo der Haupteinwand ist, diese sei zu unbequem, kompliziert, kurz zu
anstrengend?
Das hat aber doch mit Unmündigkeit wenig zu tun.

Das denke ich schon. Allerdings ist das meiner Beobachtung nach meist keine Charakterschwäche als viel mehr Resultat anderer Belastungen. Dazu nur das Beispiel meiner eigenen schwindenden Fähigkeit mich kritisch mit der Realität auseinanderzusetzen als ich vor einigen Jahren einer schweren physischen Arbeit nachging: Es gelang mir kaum noch irgendetwas zu hinterfragen. Ich bin im Wesentlichen abneds nur noch ins Bett gekippt.
Wenn es möglich ist befassen wir uns darüber hinaus meist instinktiv mit Themen, in denen wir es schaffen auf die eine oder andere Weise Befriedigung zu finden. Kaum jemand von uns hält es durch sich dauernd nur mit Themen auseinander zu setzen, in denen wir uns - zumindest vorerst - völlig ohnmächtig fühlen.
Zwangslagen - physisch real oder auch nur psychologisch - sind daher aus meiner Sicht die Grundlage stumpfen Reagierens. Wer sich ernsthaft bedroht oder belastet fühlt, wagt es in der Regel nicht den Alltag zu hinterfragen und Neues auszuprobieren weil das dazu führen könnte, dass der Alltag auf neuen Wegen noch deutlich mühsamer als bisher werden könnte. Es gibt ja keine Garantie, dass die neuen Wege tatsächlich zur erhofften Besserung führen. Da ist es psychologisch schon deutlich sicherer bei den etablierten Mustern zu bleiben. Die mögen zwar unzufriedenstellend sein, aber an sie haben wir uns wenigstens schon gewöhhnt und wir kommen nicht in neue Situationen, in denen wir dann noch rat- und hilfloser als bisher sind...
Das trifft natürlich nur zu so lange wir irgendwie noch mit der aktuellen Situation klarkommen können. Wenn sie unerträglich wird, dann sind wir auch in Zwangslagen bereit alles zu riskieren. Meist ist das dann allerdings die Voraussetzung für physische Gewalt bzw. bewaffnete Aufstände. Aber die meisten von uns müssen schon sehr verzweifelt sein, bevor wir bereit sind alles zu riskieren und uns offen gegen die Gesamtgesellschaft zu stellen. Das ist auch keine Dynamik, die ich erreichen möchte, da aus meiner Sicht echte Revolutionen fast immer nur einen Bruch mit anschließendem Neuaufbau des selben Musters mit anderen Rollenbesetzungen bringen.
Fazit: Aus meiner Sicht lohnt es sich uns um die maximale Bequemlichkeit Freier Software zu bemühen. Wenn es uns gelingt sie zur unkomplizierteren, leichter verfügbaren Lösung zu machen, dann hat proprietäre Software trotz ihrem großen Budget keine Chance mehr. Dazu brauchen wir nicht nur gute Usi*-Interfaces und zumindest für einzelne Systeme zuverlässigen Hardware-Support, sondern vor allem auch ein gut funktionierendes Support-Netzwerk. Es muss in Zukunft leichter sein Leute finden zu können, die mir zuverlässig mit für GNU/Linux helfen können als es ist Leute für andere Betriebssysteme zu finden.
Freie Software wird unschlagbar wenn sie nicht nur Technik-affinen Leuten Unabhängigkeit verschafft, sondern auch der unkundigen Mehrheit Bequemlichkeit und Sicherheit schenkt. Klar widerspricht es der bisherigen Philosophie Freier Software, als Usi ingnorant gegenüber den Abläufen in ihr zu sein, aber wenn Freie Software ein Massenphänomen sein soll, dürfen wir nichts Unrealistisches voraussetzen: Die Mehrheit kann und will die Abläufe in Computern nicht nachvollziehen...

Fazit: Aus meiner Sicht lohnt es sich uns um die maximale Bequemlichkeit Freier Software zu bemühen. Wenn es uns gelingt sie zur unkomplizierteren, leichter verfügbaren Lösung zu machen, dann hat proprietäre Software trotz ihrem großen Budget keine Chance mehr.
Wie in anderen Lebensbereichen auch, ist mein Zugang zu freier SW folgende geänderte Sicht auf Vorteile (entlehnt aus dem Denken von Seneca und anderen):
Der springende Punkt ist die Sterblichkeit. Der einzelne Mensch lebt kurz, die Menschheit (hoffentlich) viel länger. Es ist daher nicht zweckmäßig in meinem Leben auf meinen persönlichen Vorteil zu schauen, denn der ist bald Asche, sondern auf jenen der Menschheit.
Wenn Software so betrachtet wird, ist plötzlich klar, dass freie Software wesentlich besser als proprietäre ist und evtl. persönliche Bequemlichkeitsvorteile von proprietärer SW unwichtig sind.
Ich beobachte, dass auch anderen Menschen es ein Anliegen ist keinen Scherbenhaufen zu hinterlassen, sondern eine um ein Fünkchen verbesserte Welt.
Mein Ziel ist solche Menschen zu freier Software zu bringen.

Ist das jetzt aber nicht eine Absage für die Idee Software leicht zugänglich für jene zu machen, die sich nicht um eine langfristigere Perspektive als die ihrer eigenen Geschichte kümmern?
Wenn ich Deine Aktivitäten betrachte, berücksichtigst Du in Deiner Praxis mehr als die meisten anderen jene, die eben (noch?) nicht so umfassend denken. Oder ist das eine Täuschung weil das nur ein Nebeneffekt Deiner Bemühung ist den umsichtigeren Leuten möglichst gute Optionen zu bieten?

Nein, das eine schließt ja das andere nicht aus. Natürlich ist es besser wenn freie SW einfacher als proprietäre SW ist. Es ist nur keine Priorität für mich. Und ich glaube auch nicht, dass Einfachheit das richtige Argument für freie SW ist, selbst wenn sie einfacher wäre.
Wenn ich Deine Aktivitäten betrachte, berücksichtigst Du in Deiner Praxis mehr als die meisten anderen jene, die eben (noch?) nicht so umfassend denken. Oder ist das eine Täuschung weil das nur ein Nebeneffekt Deiner Bemühung ist den umsichtigeren Leuten möglichst gute Optionen zu bieten?
Interessant, dass du das so siehst. Einerseits werde ich vermutlich meinem eigenem Anspruch wohl nicht gerecht. (aber ich arbeite daran...)
Andererseits glaube ich z.B doch bei unseren Demos mit vielen Leuten gesprochen zu haben die ähnlich motiviert sind, diese Idee in anderen Lebensbereichen auch umsetzten (z.B Veganer), aber freie SW eben noch nicht aus diesem Blickwinkel betrachtet haben. Bei denen habe ich die offensten Ohren für freie SW gefunden. Aber ich gebe dir Recht, gerade bei den SW mäßig Unbedarften kam dann häufig die Angst vor Unbekannten und Kompliziertheit.
