It turns out that my friend is teaching Prof Robert Clarke's IP course while the man himself is on sabbatical. His first guess was that most of the faculty would be against software patents. Apparently Prof Clarke is in the office regualarly so my friend will be having a chat with him soon. Fingers crossed, F
