It is off-topic. If everybody flooded every mailing list with everything that 
interested them or engaged them personally, with the excuse that "you all 
ought to know about this", none of those lists would have any value any more 
because they would all be carrying largely the same deluge as every other 
list. No mailing list would be focused on its advertised purpose any more.

And that would actually drive people away from venues where they could discuss 
the specific things that interest and engage them. Like, for this list, Free 
Software.
