I see where your concerns are but my perspective is that we won't see an
iteration or extension of the concept unless this first step is successful.

I'm probably unusual in that I'm less bothered about upgrading to more
powerful hardware than my current desktop system. Like Paul, I'm more
interested in the modular concept and possibilities for standardisation that
it brings:

Of course, the standard itself won't have any weight to it if there are no
products using it, so I see this campaign as an important way to prove the
concept.
