Free software and priorities?

Comparing SquirrelMail to GMail is a bit unfair, IMHO. GMail offers a web 
interface, mailserver and hosting. With SquirrelMail (and Horde) you only get 
the web interface. Hosting is not covered with this solution.

I would compare GMail with other web mail providers, like GMX in Germany or 
Yahoo!. But I do not know any that offers a web interface (and backend) based 
on free software.
