One version of L4 for Intel does a synchronous RPC including context
switch in 400 cycles. Which is pretty damn fast.
Or, to steal one of the phrases Linus likes to say himself (but about other
concepts): "If context switches are the problem, the solution is not to get
rid of them, but to make them fast."
