"First general assembly of the Free Software Foundation Europe"

(Hamburg/Essen) On May 6th 2001, the first general assembly of the
Free Software Foundation Europe will take place at the Villa Vogelsang
in Essen, Germany. This old villa, formerly property of a factory
owner, has evolved into the "Center for GNU/Linux and Free Software"
over the two last years and the FSF Europe will set up their first
office there.

"We are very glad that our sponsors show such an interest in Free
Software that they enable us to set up a working office with their
continuous donations", says Dr. Peter Gerwinski, the FSF Europe's Head
of Office.

In order to present the team members and the location of the office to
the public and the press, an informal get-together is scheduled at the
Villa Vogelsang. At 17:00, the members of the FSF Europe will be
available for photos and short interviews. From 19:00 on the event
will be open to the public. A short note would be appreciated from
everyone who is planning to attend.

"This is our first general assembly and many things are still very new
for us and the people we work with, so we want to give everyone the
chance to seize the opportunity of having so many of us in one
place.", says Georg C. F. Greve. "By keeping it a little informal we
hope that it will allow a more relaxed atmosphere in which people can
get to know us."

Free Software Foundation created 1984 by Richard M. Stallman in the
United States of America. 

Main purpose of the FSF Europe is to coordinate Free Software
initiatives throughout Europe, to provide a Free Software

Presseerklärung der Free Software Foundation Europe

"Erste Mitgliederversammlung der Free Software Foundation Europe"

(Hamburg/Essen) Am 6. Mai 2001 findet die erste Mitgliederversammlung
der Free Software Foundation Europe in der Villa Vogelsang in Essen
statt. In der alten Fabrikanten-Villa, die sich in den letzten zwei
Jahren zum "Zentrum für GNU/Linux und Freie Software" entwickelt hat,
wird die FSF Europe ihre Büroräume anmieten.

"Wir sind sehr froh, daß unsere Sponsoren ein solches Interesse an
Freier Software zeigen, daß sie uns durch ihre regelmäßigen Spenden
die Aufnahme eines ordentlichen Bürobetriebs ermöglichen", sagt
Dr. Peter Gerwinski, Head of Office der FSF Europe.

"Dies ist unsere erste Mitgliederversammlung, und viele Dinge sind
noch sehr neu für uns und für die Leute, mit denen wir arbeiten. Es
ist eine seltene Gelegenheit, daß so viele von uns an einem Ort
versammelt sind", sagt Georg C. F. Greve. "Wir möchten in einer
informellen und entspannten Atmosphäre die Gelegenheit bieten, uns
besser kennenzulernen."

Um die Teammitglieder und die Büroräume der Öffentlichkeit und Presse
vorzustellen, ist ein informelles Zusammentreffen in der Villa
Vogelsang geplant. Um 17:00 werden die Mitglieder der FSF Europe für
Fotos und kurze Interviews zur Verfügung stehen. Von 19:00 an ist die
Veranstaltung öffentlich. Um eine kurze Antwort von jedem, der daran
teilzunehmen plant, wird gebeten.


Über die FSF Europe:

Die Free Software Foundation Europe ist die Schwesterorganisation der
im Jahre 1984 durch Richard M. Stallman in den Vereinigten Staaten
gegründeten Free Software Foundation. 

Die Hauptaufgaben der FSF Europe sind es, Initiativen Freier Software
in Europa zu koordinieren, ein Kompetenzzentrum für Politiker und
Journalisten bereitzustellen und Infrastruktur für
Freie-Software-Projekte und speziell das GNU-Projekt zur Verfügung zu
stellen.
