Agreed.
I understand the point of having a written record of the discussion, but
the one thing does not necessarily exclude the other. If there was an
IRC-channel, this might be a good thing for people who have the time to
discuss things in general. If during this discussion they develop any
important ideas, they would surely summarize them in an email to the
list, since not everybody can be on IRC at the same time.

I for one would like to see an IRC-channel - people could ask minor
more general questions without having to send emails all over the place.
