... und danke Simon für das Protokoll.
Eine Präzisierung:
Auf der kurzen! Liste der mit Replicant betreibbaren Smartphones oder Tablets gibt es KEINES, bei dem GPS oder Wi-Fi funktionieren. Es steht jeweils: Wi-Fi can be enabled using an external Wi-Fi dongle with the AR9271 chipset.
Ich weiss nicht, ob jemand Lust hat sowas zusätzlich rumzuschleppen oder auf Wi-Fi zu verzichten. Und GPS geht gar nicht!
Vielleicht lege ich mir zwei Handys zu, ein Galaxy S2 mit Replicant und ein zweites mit Lineage OS, auf dem Wi-Fi und GPS funktionieren.
Naja, für einen FSFE-Missionar liegt das drin, aber für die Normalverbraucherin?

WLan hatte ich erwähnt und zu GPS brauche ich ja nicht viel zu sagen. Suche einfach mal nach Stallman und GPS.

Hat es einen Grund, warum man nicht aktuelle Chips/Smartphones versucht zu reverse engineeren/anzubieten? Sind diese mit Hardware Chips, Security Modules und Treiber zu gut gesichert/zu komplex/zu undokumentiert?
Für mich ist ein Telefon ohne GPS halt leider schon ein No-Go (Über 3G könnte man noch streiten, für mich aber auch ein klarer Kontrapunkt).

Hallo Zusammen
Ich verwende UnifiedNlp mit dem LocalGsmNlpBackend (F-Droid). Damit kann man eine GSM Datenbank vom Internet herunterladen und hat dann die Positionsbestimmung via GSM Antennen auch ohne Google zur Verfügung. Die ist recht gut. Die Daten können entweder aus dem "Mozilla Location Service" Projekt oder von OpenCellID (registrierung erforderlich) heruntergeladen werden.

Hi Simon,
reverse engineering ist immer ein schwieriges Thema. Zum einen ist es gesetzlich fragwürdig zum anderen gibt es, wie du richtig erkannt hast, immer bessere Schutzmechanismen.
Es wäre an grossen Vendorn wie Google, die Hardwarespezifikation zu veröffentlichen. Das tun sie aber nicht, da sie zu eng mit den Hardware Herstellern verbunden sind. Also bleibt fast nur der universitäre Bereich, aus dem immer wieder tolle Projekte entspringen. Mir ist zur Zeit leider keines bekannt, das sich explizit mit Telefon-Chips befasst.
