[Fellowship Zurich] Next meeting

Dear all It was nice to see you at the meeting. I think it's great there are so many active fellows around Zurich. I had previously announced a provisional date for the next meeting: "Zurich Fellowship meeting 2008-08-15 There will be a Fellowship meeting at the FSFE Zurich office from 18:00 until 19:30 on Friday the 15th of August. Some free (as in beer) beer will be provided and all Fellows nearby are invited to attend. It will be a good chance to get to know each other in person, to discuss ways of spreading the word about Free Software in Switzerland, and to generally have a good time. This meeting will be hosted by Shane Coughlan, the coordinator of FSFE's legal activities. However, he promises not to talk about licences unless someone asks. If you are coming to the meeting please let Shane know by sending an email to coughlan(a)fsfeurope.org." However, I have noticed that there is also an event taking place nearby on the 14th from the local Ubuntu group, which are now changing into a general Free Software discussion group: http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=mvi52peretndc9kfop58vse7cg%40group… Perhaps it would make sense to attend their meeting? [Fellowship Zurich] report from the last fellowship meeting/ wiki page ?

Enjoy ! https://www.fsfe.org/en/fellows/morant/geek_free_and_funny see you ! Ben The First Fellowship meeting in Zürich was a chance for everyone to get to know each other. It took place in FSFE's Zürich Office on the 18^th of July, around some peanuts, crisps, beers and other drinks. Everybody there was very motivated and discussed about ways to contribute to spread free software.. Many people were there because they were searching for increased Free Software Activism on the political side. We discussed about the equation free = free as a beer. It's clear that we can't promote advertising based on that. The way to use Free Software implies training costs because you change your work environment and the habits you had with proprietary software. These training costs are hidden by the “free as a beer” concept. It also misses the point of freedom. We must rather promote the “free as a speech” concept: community, freedom and reliability of open standards with the time. We spoke about how free software allows you to control your system and the negative effects of monopolies on the economical side. We decided to get in touch with other organizations in Switzerland which also promote Free Software because we noticed that the IT-specialised press here doesn't speak much about Free Software. We though about getting in touch with the “Neue Zürcher Zeitung” to show their readers that an alternative exists to proprietary software. We agreed that the FSFE can be the handling point on the political tracks and we decided to open the next fellowship meeting in Zürich to non-fellows. There is a possibility to do this meeting on the 14^th of August with the local Ubuntu group, which is now changing into a general free software discussion group.

It sounds a good idea to me, and a way to meet more people who are interested in Free Software. Hi all 18:00 will be on this friday a litte bit to short for me i will arrive a little bit later, between 18:15 and 18:30 Shane you are right informed, we have changed to general free software while we the gnu pingu staff have think general free software matches our targets and visions much better. There are also a event at the 2nd of August in the VDK of ZhdK. At this event we will have workshops and discussions about free software. [Fellowship Zurich] Willkommen!

Hallo, zusammen! Alle, die gestern auf dem Fellowship-Treffen in Zürich waren, sind jetzt auf dieser Liste eingetragen. Ich habe alle mit der @fsfe.org-Adresse eingetragen. Sollte jemand lieber eine andere Adresse verwenden wollen, kann das jeder selbst im Web-Interface einstellen. Ein Link auf das Web-Interface ist am Ende jedes Mails, das über die Mailing-Liste verschickt wird. Achtet bitte auf jeden Fall darauf, dass ihr immer die Adresse als Absender verwendet, mit der ihr auch eingetragen seid. Alle E-Mails von nicht-eingetragenen Absendern werden nämlich zurückgehalten und müssen händisch genehmigt werden - ein effektiver Schutz vor Spam. Alle Mails auf dieser Liste werden auch archiviert, wobei das Archiv nur für Mitglieder der Liste zugänglich ist. Viele Grüße, Reinhard
