Hi all,

Apologies for the cross-posting, but this seems a fairly serious failure and needs action immediately that involves the Swedish team.

I just took a look at why our services are not working, and tracked it back to a name server issue.

None of the name servers can be reached. I checked the WHOIS record, which still seems intact, but none of {ns1,ns2,ns3}.fsfeurope.org respond. When trying to connect to the VPN through IP address without DNS lookup, which is at 130.243.109.197 (geoip puts this into the University of Orebro), I discovered that this server is also not reachable.

So it appears there is an outage at our server housing facilities in Sweden at the Orebro University.

This outage seems to have knocked out the primary name servers, which either caused cascading failure into the mirror, or the mirror was broken before and this went unnoticed. The problem currently does not affect our fsfe.org domain, but this domain uses the same name servers, so the query is potentially still in the cache of my local nameserver - and the web site is likely to go down (and already be down) for others.

Possible resolution paths:

   a) Fix servers at University of Orebro. Jonas/Henrik? Can you call them and see what is up and how to fix it?

   b) Set up alternative name server / get secondary name servers back up. Cri: Can you do this?

Regards,
Georg

P.S. Including my Gmail account, as our name server currently does not receive mail - since other servers are unable to look it up. This might also cause issues with mail going through the server, I guess, if other servers refuse to accept mail that has no working reverse lookup - which is why I am using Gmail also to send this.
