1. Microsoft antitrust: una vittoria per il Software Libero e la libertà di concorrenza
Le richieste della Commissione Europea affinché Microsoft cessi di ostacolare l'interoperabilità attraverso i suoi prodotti e le pratiche di bundling scorrette sono state confermate dal Tribunale di Primo Grado europeo.
Il caso iniziò nel 1998 con un esposto di Sun Microsystem a proposito della mancanza di informazioni sull'interoperabilità nei prodotti Microsoft. Nel 2004, la Commissione Europea stabilì che Microsoft aveva distorto il mercato in modo scorretto, e Microsoft fece appello presso la Corte Europea contro questa decisione. La sentenza di appello ha dato torto a Microsoft su tutti i punti di merito, notando addirittura che la Commissione è stata fin troppo indulgente con Microsoft su alcune questioni.

2. WIPO: il richiamo di FSFE all'interoperabilità e agli standard aperti
L'assemblea degli stati membri della WIPO del 2007 è stata ricca di scontri e non ha raggiunto un ampio accordo nonostante sia stata prolungata oltre i termini previsti. La causa principale del fallimento è legata alle polemiche sul Direttore Generale della WIPO Kamil Idris e sulle accuse di un suo comportamento scorretto. Un altro punto di tensione ha riguardato i fondi destinati alla WIPO e la necessità di aumentare l'efficacia dell'organizzazione: è ormai chiaro che le decisioni di bilancio possono mettere a rischio il successo di accordi come l'Agenda per lo Sviluppo.
In risposta, la FSFE ha fatto un appello affinché la politica delle forniture della WIPO sia basata sull'interoperabilità, sull'indipendenza da singoli fornitori e sugli standard aperti. Inoltre ha proposto ai comitati della WIPO di prendere in esame più da vicino il Software Libero e gli standard aperti:

3. La Freedom Task Force firma un'intesa con il TIS Free Software Center dell'Alto Adige
La Freedom Task Force della FSFE ha firmato un memorandum di accordo con il TIS Free Software Center dell'Alto Adige per aumentare la cooperazione tra le due organizzazioni nell'ambito della formazione sulle licenze per il Software Libero. Entrambi i gruppi si impegnano a collaborare per fornire servizi comuni in quest'area.

Il Ministero per l'Economia del Cile ha pubblicato su YouTube la registrazione di un incontro tra il Ministro per l'Economia Alejandro Ferreiro e il Presidente di FSFE Georg Greve. I due discorsi pubblicati hanno come argomento l'economia del Software Libero e le azioni legislative necessarie a creare un percorso di transizione verso la libertà del software.

5. La FSFE sostiene la protesta contro l'eccessiva sorveglianza sulle comunicazioni digitali
Il 22 settembre a Berlino la sezione tedesca della FSFE ha sostenuto un'iniziativa di protesta il cui slogan principale era "Libertà invece che paura - Stop alla mania della sorveglianza!". Alla manifestazione hanno partecipato più di 15.000 persone.
La protesta ha avuto come bersaglio le norme sull'archiviazione dei dati riguardanti le telecomunicazioni, un tema che è assai caldo nell'agenda politica autunnale in Germania. Tra gli altri aspetti posti al centro dell'attenzione, anche le proposte di legalizzare le perquisizioni online.
Sostenendo la protesta, la FSFE ha enfatizzato il valore della libertà nelle comunicazioni digitali. La grande partecipazione ha dimostrato che la gente considera inaccettabile l'inasprimento continuo delle leggi sulla sorveglianza. Si è trattato della maggiore manifestazione sui diritti civili e sulla privacy avvenuta in Germania dal censimento del 1987.
6. La FSFE presenta FSCONS e lo Scandinavian Free Software Award
Dal 7 all'8 dicembre 2007 si terrà a Goteborg, in Svezia, la Free Software Conference Scandinavia (FSCONS). È il primo evento di questo tipo nella regione, ed è ispirato dal crescente interesse sviluppatosi attorno al Software Libero. Programmatori di primo piano, hacker, avvocati, rappresentanti del governo prenderanno la parola davanti a rappresentanti di tutti gli ambiti legati al Software Libero, con l'obiettivo di diffondere il messaggio del Software Libero nella regione.
Oltre a partecipare alla FSCONS, la FSFE ha presentato il primo Scandinavian Free Software Award, un premio annuale da attribuire a una persona, progetto, od organizzazione scandinavi che abbiano dato un contributo essenziale alla causa della libertà.
