Benvenuti alla newsletter di ottobre della FSFE. Questo mese sono stati oggetto d'attenzione i temi dell'interoperabilità, l'ICT sostenibile ed il Software Libero nell'insegnamento. Ci sono state, inoltre, modifiche all'interno della FSFE, con la revisione da parte della Fellowship della sua struttura e con l'espansione continua di progetti a lungo termine come la rete tecnica e legale europea della FTF. Tempi davvero eccitanti questi.

1. La battaglia decennale tra la Commissione Europea e la Microsoft è finita
La Commissione Europea e la Microsoft hanno raggiunto un accordo sull'adesione agli obblighi contenuti nella decisione della Commissione del 2004 contro l'azienda di Seattle. La Commissione aveva stabilito che Microsoft distorceva il mercato non fornendo le informazioni di interoperabilità per i suoi prodotti. Microsoft s'era successivamente appellata contro questa decisione ma ha perso alla Corte Europea di Prima Istanza. Una parte della decisione richiedeva condizioni ragionevoli e non discriminatorie nelle informazioni di interoperabilità ed i brevetti correlati. Una motivazione per questo era l'intenzione di permettere a progetti di Software libero come Samba di accedere alle informazioni, ed i nostri esperti legali stanno ora valutando se le condizioni oggetto dell'accordo soddisfano questi requisiti. Quel che è certo è che Microsoft non si appellerà contro la sentenza della Corte di Prima Istanza, che è diventata finale e definitiva. Per aggiornamenti visitate:
2. La FSFE all'evento di informazione sul Software Libero in una scuola austriaca
Come già riportato in una precedente newsletter, la scuola pubblica austriaca "BG Rechte Kremszeile" è passata all'adozione del Software Libero. La scuola ha organizzato recentemente un evento per riportare la propria esperienza nel passaggio. Sono stati invitati tre relatori della FSFE e del gruppo della Fellowship viennese per parlare dei concetti generali del Software Libero. Anche un gruppo di insegnanti e manager di altre scuole ha partecipato all'evento ed ha mostrato interesse per l'adozione di soluzioni libere nelle loro scuole.

3. Il vice-coordinatore per la Germania della FSFE discute sull'IT sostenibile a Berlino
Matthias Kirschner, vice-coordinatore per la Germania della FSFE, ha preso parte ad una tavola rotonda alla conferenza Sustainable-IT il 18 ottobre. Il tema in discussione era "Sostenibilità dell'IT -- internazionale. Come il software può contribuire alla protezione delle risorse e ad un'equa distribuzione della conoscenza."

4. Sun dona un server T1000 alla FSFE
Sun ha donato un server T1000 alla Fellowship della FSFE. "Il lavoro assunto dalla Free Software Foundation Europe è importante per tutti noi. Sun è onorata di donare un server Sun Fire(TM) T1000, basato sul chip OpenSPARC(TM), licenziato sotto GPL, per sostenere il sito della Fellowship della FSFE" ha detto Simon Phipps, Responsabile Open Source, Sun Microsystems Inc. Grazie a questo nuovo hardware la FSFE può rifocalizzare la presenza in rete della Fellowship e fornire nuovi servizi a tutti i suoi sostenitori.

5. I Fellow fanno piani per il futuro del portale della Fellowship
I Fellow della FSFE stanno discutendo il futuro del portale della Fellowship. Fin dal 2005, il portale fsfe.org ha sempre cercato di fornire strumenti ai Fellow per comunicare e collaborare. La discussione attuale verte su quali servizi siano ritenuti più importanti dai Fellow oggi e quali strumenti sarebbero utili per il futuro. La discussione sta considerando l'uso di forum, calendari, mailing list ed altri servizi. Potete aggiungere il vostro punto di vista iscrivendovi a questa lista:

6. La rete europea legale e tecnica della FSFE cresce
La Freedom Task Force della FSFE è stata impegnata nel costruire le reti pan-europee legali e tecniche. L'obiettivo è rafforzare le fondamenta legali del Software Libero con la creazione di connessioni tra professionisti e ricercatori attivi sul continente. Le reti hanno ora 45 esperti legali e 25 specialisti tecnici, ed includono contatti in Canada, Stati Uniti, Singapore e Taiwan. Per saperne di più visitate la pagina:

7. Incontri a Bruxelles e conoscenza del Software Libero
Ciaran O'Riordan è stato impegnato a Bruxelles. Assieme ai soliti incontri sull'ODF, O'Riordan è stato ad Helsinki e Firenze per parlare sulla GPLv3 e ne ha scritto nel suo blog.
