INFORMATIONS EN LIGNE SUR LA CONFÉRENCE INTERNATIONALE SUR LA GPL V3

La troisième conférence internationale sur la GPLv3 marque la moitié du processus de consultation public de réécriture de la licence première du Logiciel Libre, qui s'étend sur une année. Des experts d'Europe et internationaux seront présents à cette conférence.
Cette conférence aura lieu, au coeur de la cité, dans le Centre de la Culture Contemporaine de Barcelone (CCCB). Il y aura, durant les deux jours que durera cet événement, des exposés d'experts dont Richard Stallman, Président de la FSF, Eben Molgen, Président du Centre Juridique pour la Liberté du Logiciel, Georg Greve, Président de la FSF Europe et Harald Welte, fondateur de gpl-violations.org.
De loin la licence pour le Logiciel Libre la plus répandue, la Licence Publique Générale GNU (également appelée « la GPL ») assure que toute personne recevant un logiciel sous licence GPL peut l'utiliser comme il le souhaite, le modifier selon ses besoins et en distribuer des copies modifiées ou non.
« Les gens ont parfois l'impression que la Licence Publique Générale GNU existe depuis toujours, et ils n'ont pas complètement tort. Publiée en 1991, la Licence Publique Générale GNU s'est révélée être une réussite exceptionnelle au cours des quinze dernières années », dit Greve. « Après un tel succès, seul le minimum devrait être changé. Mais les changements dans les environnements technique et juridique, ainsi que concernant la position du Logiciel Libre et de sa communauté, appellent des changements. Par le processus de mise à jour, nous voulons impliquer une équipe globale dans la rédaction de la GPLv3, et chacun est invité à y participer: venir aux conférences en est une des meilleures méthodes. »
Harald Welte insiste sur le risque encouru par le Logiciel Libre en raison du Digital Restriction Management (DRM): « Il a toujours été évident que l'utilisation du DRM pour restreindre les droits des usagers s'oppose à l'esprit de la GPL. En tant que propriétaire du copyright de logiciels sous licence GPL, j'ai déjà réussi à faire reconnaître cela hors justice à l'aide de la version 2 de la licence GPL. Les nouveaux termes de la licence GPLv3 concernant le DRM sont plus solides et en rendront l'application plus aisée. Lorsque l'application en est simple, les personnes sont moins tentées d'enfreindre une licence, ainsi le Logiciel Libre pourra se consacrer au développement de logiciels plutôt que de contrôler les abus de licences. »
Toutes les présentations seront en anglais à l'exception d'une seule qui sera en espagnol. La traduction simultanée en espagnol sera assurée pour chacune des présentations en anglais, et réciproquement.
