La FSFE devient un observateur de l'OMPI (WIPO)
L'Organisation Mondiale de la Propriété Intellectuelle (OMPI) est l'une de 16 institutions spécialisées des Nations Unies qui traite principalement des politiques globales accordant des monopoles sur la connaissance et autres "virtualités." Ces politiques filtrent jusqu'aux législations locales, façonnant l'humanité dans son approche d'une société basée sur la connaissance.
Actuellement des menaces pèsent sur la liberté de notre société et de notre économie dans la société basée sur la connaissance -- issues de la Directive Européenne sur les Droits d'Auteurs (EUCD) sur l'extention de la brevetabilité -- ayant pris racine ne serait-ce qu'idéologiquement au niveau de l'ONU et au-delà de toute discussion lorsqu'il sont finalement passés dans les lois nationales. Cela laisse un tout petit espace à la tentative de limiter le mal et ses effets préjudiciables.
Pour cette raison, la FSFE a demandé à ce que lui soit accordé le statut d'observateur de l'OMPI en 2003, celui-ci confirmé par l'Assemblée des Etats membres de l'OMPI du 27 septembre au 5 octobre 2004.
Dans l'espace du projet de l'équipe FSFE WIPO [1], la FSFE travaillera avec d'autres acteurs pour faire évoluer l'OMPI d'une organisation uniquement orientée sur la monopolisation de la connaissance à celle dont le but sera d'augmenter la richesse intellectuelle de toute l'humanité à l'aide d'une palette d'outils plus flexible, plus durable et efficace. "Chaque fois que la Société Civile a tenté d'aborder la question des brevets, des droits d'auteur et des marques déposées lors du Sommet Mondial des Nations Unies sur la Société de l'Information (WSIS), on nous a dit que l'OMPI était bien l'endroit pour avoir ce genre de discussions et opérer ces changements", explique Georg Greve, président de FSFE.
Il continue : "si l'OMPI est bien l'endroit pour ça, alors c'est là que nous devons participer pour préserver la liberté dans l'ère numérique."
