1. Deux heureux fellows gagnent un ordinateur portable
La Fellowship est extrêmement importante pour soutenir les activités de la FSF Europe. C'est pour cette raison que la FSFE essaie de trouver un moyen pour remercier tous ceux qui l'ont rejointe: cette année deux ordinateurs portables HP Compaq ont été offerts par tirage au sort parmi nos fellows. Les gagnants sont Andrea Di Dato d'Italie et Wouter van Heyst des Pays-Bas. Encore une fois: félicitations, et amusez-vous avec vos machines!

2. Giacomo Poderi commence son stage à la FSFE
La Free Software Foundation Europe accueille Giacomo Poderi comme nouveau stagiaire. Giacomo habite à Zürich et travaille d'avril à août 2006 pour la FSFE. Ses tâches principales sont le soutien administratif pour le président, le bureau et toute l'équipe de la FSFE. Il a fait des études de philosophie à Bologne, en Italie, et a choisi de travailler pour la FSFE parce que cela lui permet d'agir sur des thèmes en relation étroite avec les aspects sociaux et techniques de la vie quotidienne.
La FSFE remercie Alexander Finkenberger pour son travail précieux effectué durant son stage qui s'est terminé fin Mars. Alexander a décidé de continuer à travailler pour la FSFE à titre volontaire et de rester actif dans l'équipe noyau de la FSFE.
3. L'équipe noyau de la FSFE continue de croître
Antonella Beccaria, Cristian Rigamonti et Patrick Ohnewein ont rejoint l'équipe noyau de la FSFE. Ils sont tous supporters actifs de Logiciels Libres depuis plusieurs années. Avec Stefano Maffulli ils transforment l'Italie en une base solide et importante de la Free Software Foundation Europe.
4. Ciarán O'Riordan et Gareth Bowker prennent la parole à Londres
Le 7 avril, la British Computer Society a été l'hôte d'une soirée sur le thème des Logiciels Libres. Ciarán O'Riordan a présenté le travail de la FSFE contre les brevets logiciels et les travaux en cours sur la GPLv3, tandis que Gareth Bowker a parlé de la loi sur les copyrights et a montré comment les DRM peuvent handicaper les utilisateurs d'ordinateurs. Tous deux ont ensuite répondu à des questions et la discussion avec le public s'est prolongée tard dans la nuit.
5. Forum Logiciels Libres au Brésil
Georg Greve et Ciarán O'Riordan ont participé à la 7ème édition du Forum Logiciels Libres (FISL) à Porto Alegre au Brésil. Georg Greve a fait une des présentations d'ouverture (« Logiciels Libres - mouvement social ou révolution technologique? ») et a participé aux sessions sur la « Free Software Foundation Latin America », sur les distributions avec 100% de Logiciels Libres, et au groupe « compatibilité de licences » pour la 2ème conférence internationale sur la GPLv3. Ciarán O'Riordan a parlé du travail contre les brevets logiciels et a participé de différentes manières à la conférence GPLv3. Mises à part leurs apparitions publiques ils ont aussi travaillé avec la FSF Latin America - organisation sœur de la FSFE - et la communauté locale des Logiciels Libres pour renforcer le réseau international des Logiciels Libres.
6. Conférence « Access to Knowledge » aux États-Unis
Le « Information Society Project » à l'école de droit de l'université de Yale a organisé une conférence clé sur l'accès au savoir (Access to Knowledge, A2K) du 21 au 23 avril. Karsten Gerloff a animé un podium concernant les cadres de licences pour l'accès au savoir. Les participants ont exploré les possibilités et les restrictions pour des licences réglant le savoir. Le débat s'est concentré sur les limites du concept Creative Commons.
La conférence était une excellente opportunité pour rencontrer d'autres activistes et universitaires dans le domaine de l'accès au savoir. Les organisateurs ont documenté une grande partie de la conférence dans un wiki public.

7. Audition dans le procès antitrust Microsoft
Après plusieurs années d'investigation, des années de bataille légale et plusieurs milliards d'euros dépensés par Microsoft pour maintenir son monopole, la Cour Européenne au Luxembourg a convoqué le grand jury composé de 13 juges pour une audition d'une semaine. Le but de cette audition était de décider si les plaintes de traitement injuste et d'erreur judiciaires de la Commission Européenne, déposées par Microsoft, sont fondées et si la décision de la Commission doit être abolie ou modifiée.
En étroite collaboration avec l'équipe Samba, la Free Software Foundation Europe avait une équipe de 5 personnes à Luxembourg pour défendre la décision de la Commission Européenne: accompagnés par le président de la FSFE, Georg Greve, l'avocat de la FSFE dans le procès, Me Carlo Piana, et les coordinateurs de presse de la FSFE, Joachim Jakobs et Antonella Beccaria, le fondateur de l'équipe Samba, Andrew Tridgell, a parlé à la cour au nom de la FSFE. Ses explications claires et détaillées ont permis d'invalider beaucoup d'affirmations fausses faites par Microsoft. Une décision de la cour est attendue au cours de cette année, et grâce au travail fait par la FSFE et Samba, un léger optimisme est de mise.
