1. La Pologne désaprouve la directive sur les brevets logiciels au sein du Conseil de l'Europe
Par son veto, la Pologne a bloqué l'adoption finale de la directive sur les brevets logiciels au sein du Conseil de l'Europe. Cela signifie que la directive doit être rediscutée par le Conseil. On pense que plusieurs pays ont changé leur point de vue contre les brevets logiciels depuis la dernière discussion en mai où seul une petite minorité de pays étaient pour les brevets logiciels.
La FSFE et ses organisations associées on fait un grand travail au niveau politique à la fois en Pologne et dans d'autres pays qui soutiennent la Pologne dans sa décision pour permettre ce veto.

2. Une première victoire pour l'UE et la FSFE dans les proces contre Microsoft
Bo Versterdorf, président de la Cour Européenne, a rejeté l'appel de Microsoft à retarder l'exécution des sanctions. Microsoft avait été condamné par la Commission Européenne à publier les informations techniques concernant les interfaces de leur système d'exploitation Windows pour permettre à leurs concurrents d'établir l'interopérabilité entre leurs systèmes et Windows. Le fait que les autres opposants de Microsoft avaient décider de se retirer rend cette victoire encore plus importante pour la Commission Européenne et la FSFE.

3. Le chapitre FSFE Italie à la rencontre du public italien
Le chapitre italien de la FSFE a participé à quatres conférences à Trieste, Turin, Bologne et Milan du le 15 et le 18 décembre.
Durant ces quatres jours, Stefano Maffulli à parlé des activités de la FSFE et des perspectives futures des Logiciels Libres en Italie, Alessandro Rubini a fait une comparaison "Gnu General Public License Vs Creative Commons Public License", Lele Rozza a souligné l'importance des Logiciels Libre pour l'administration publique. D'autres conférences seront organisées ces prochains mois.
4. Le chapitre Italien a récompensé le Professeur Stefano Rodotà
Durant sa conférence à Milan, le chapitre italien de la FSFE a attribué le prix "Free Software, Free Society" au Professeur Stefano Rodotà (directeur de l'Autorité de Protection des Données Italienne). Le Professeur Rodotà a été récompensé pour ses efforts à attirer l'attention sur la question de la protection de données personnelles et à protéger la liberté dans une société digitale.
5. Autres apparitions publiques
Georg Greve a donné deux conférences publiques en décembre: à l'Université de Lüneburg, Allemagne, il a fait une introduction aux Logiciels Libres et leurs effets sur la société et a présenté la FSFE. Lors d'une conférence organisée par l'Université de Hambourg, Allemagne, appelée "programmers and other lawmakers" il a aussi parlé des récents événements concernant les brevets logiciels dans l'UE et le cas Microsoft.
