1. Le Parlement européen rejette la directive sur les brevets logiciels
Après des années de lutte, le Parlement européen a finalement rejeté la direction sur les brevets logiciels par 648 votes (sur un total de 680), envoyant par la-même un signal fort contre les brevets sur le logiciel et les idées relevant du logiciel. La communauté du logiciel libre ne devrait cependant pas considérer que le sujet est clos: les forces qui poussaient pour la brevetabilité ne vont pas renconcer. C'est pour cette raison que la FSFE et ses membres associés se préparent pour la partie suivante en Europe et que la FSFE veut mener ce combat également au niveau global, devant les Nations Unies: nous avons besoin de votre aide et de votre support pour cela.

2. Rencontre annuelle Svenska Linuxföreningen
Svenska Linuxföreningen (l'association suédois Linux ) a tenu son assemblée annuelle les 2 et 3 juillet. Le deuxième jour, Henrik Sandklef a proposé sa présentation ""Free Software - Free Society" (logiciel libre -- société libre).
3. Ecole d'été sur le logiciel libre à Castellón
A l'université Jaume I à Castellón en Espagne, Jonas Öberg a été invité pour présenter le travail de la FSFE.
4. Journées du logiciel libre à Vilanova i la Geltrú
Les "Jornades de Programari Lliure" (journées du logiciel libre) sont une conférence sur les logiciels libres à Vilanova i la Geltrú, en Catalogne, organisée par un groupe de supporters du logiciel libre en Catalogne. Karin Kosina a présenté une introduction à la programmation 3D à l'aide de Coin3D et comment faire de l'argent avec le logiciel libre.
5. Troisième rencontre intersession OMPI (WIPO) à Genève
Georg Greve et Karsten Gerloff se sont rendus une nouvelle fois à Genève en Suisse pour participer à la troisième rencontre inter-session et inter-gouvernementale (IIM/3) sur un agenda de développement pour l'OMPI (WIPO), l'Organisation des Nations Unies pour la Propriété Intellectuelle. En sa qualité de vice-président du groupe de travail de la société civile sur les brevets WSIS, copyrights et droits des marques (PCT) et en tant que représentant de ce groupe de travail global, Georg Greve a sommé le WIPO d'établir des limites claires sur la brevetabilité, au niveau global, en excluant par exemple le logiciel.

Encore une fois, le blog (web-journal) de Karsten est une des rares sources d'information indépendante en ce qui concerne ce qui se passe lors de ces rencontres, et Karsten subit de plus en plus d'attaques de représentants de l'industrie qui possède des droits, en raison de ses commentaires avisés et de ses efforts de vulgarisation des procédés de ces derniers.

6. La FSFE à What The Hack
Tous les quatre ans, des hackers (NdT magiciens du logiciels) du monde entier se réunissent pour camper, s'adonner à des activités sociales, parler de technologie et de philosophie -- et se défendre de la pluie. Cette année, la conférence What The Hack a eu lieu près de Liempde aux Pays-Bas a confirmé la tradition. Pour la première fois, la FSFE était présente à un des événements organisés, et Georg Greve a parlé des aspects politiques des logiciels libres et du travail de la FSFE. Karsten Gerloff a quant à lui expliqué le travail de la FSFE à l'OMPI (WIPO).
7. Extension du réseau des organisations du logiciel libre
Sur la base des contacts effectués en Syrie par Karin Kosina et Jonas Öberg, Mohammad Khansari a rejoint l'équipe de la FSFSE lors de la rencontre GNU/LinuxTag à Karlsruhe. Lors de discussions personnelles, Georg Greve et Mohammad Khansari se sont mis d'accord pour signer un accord de coopération entre la FSFE et Teheran's Advanced Information and Communication Technology Centre (AICTC) dans le but de promouvoir le logiciel libre au Proche-orient. La FSFE espère que d'autres coopérations et partenariats seront créés et se réjouit de supporter ce processus de toutes les manières possibles.
