La FSFE accueille KDE e.V. en tant que nouvelle organisation associée
KDE e.V. -- une association sans but lucratif qui représente le K Desktop Environment (KDE®) pour les affaires légales et financières -- et la Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) sont fières d'annoncer leur statut d'associées, travaillant ensemble pour la promotion et la protection du Logiciel Libre sur les bureaux des utilisateurs d'Europe et du monde entier.
« La communauté du Logiciel Libre a commencé à poser les briques les plus élémentaires de la liberté dans les systèmes d'exploitation, en finissant le système GNU/Linux au début des années 90 et en prenant plus de 60% des serveurs web avec Apache [1], et est devenue la pierre angulaire de la société et de l'économie en réseau », dit Georg Greve, président de la FSFE. « En tant que communauté, nous avons ensuite abordé la grande étape de l'environnement de bureau. Aujourd'hui nous avons deux environnements de bureau pleinement fonctionnels qui soutiennent la comparaison avec n'importe quel autre environnement utilisé dans le monde: GNOME et KDE ».
« Bien que GNU/Linux et KDE soient utilisés sur les ordinateurs de nombreuses entreprises et gouvernements dans le monde, certaines personnes ont encore des préjugés sur l'ergonomie de GNU/Linux sur leurs machines de bureau », souligne Eva Brucherseifer, présidente de KDE e.V.
Elle continue: « KDE a embrassé le projet "openusability" et travaille maintenant en étroite collaboration avec les développeurs. Ceci a déjà abouti à de nombreuses améliorations de l'ergonomie de KDE, mais cela aura un effet encore plus grand dans le processus de développement de KDE 4, où nous pourrons faire des changements plus profonds pour améliorer l'ergonomie à tous les niveaux ».
« L'environnement de bureau est un des plus importants champs de bataille pour assurer le succès à long terme du Logiciel Libre. Dans le procès antitrust, il est devenu clair que Microsoft pouvait utiliser son quasi-monopole sur l'environnement de bureau comme levier pour d'autres domaines. Dans le procès antitrust de l'Union Européenne, la FSFE aide à empêcher cela, mais ce n'est pas assez: nous avons besoin de mettre fin aux monopoles sur l'environnement de bureau, qui rendent ceci possible », dit Georg Greve en expliquant les raisons de la décision de la FSFE d'agir dans ce domaine. « Avec KDE e.V. nous cherchons à briser le goulet d'étranglement de l'environnement de bureau, à donner aux gens la liberté, à leur expliquer pourquoi c'est important et pourquoi il ne doivent pas abandonner encore une fois cette liberté ».
Un des premiers projets discutés par les deux associations est de fournir plus d'information à propos du Logiciel Libre aux parties intéressées, et de les informer des différentes alternatives. « Mais ceci ne peut qu'être la première étape », ajoute Eva Brucherseifer, qui souligne: « Notre but ultime doit être d'aider à construire un environnement fort de sociétés de service en Logiciel Libre. Nous avons déjà collaboré de manière non-officielle par le passé, et nous sommes très heureux de travailler maintenant officiellement avec la Free Software Foundation Europe afin d'atteindre ce but ».
