La FSFE annonce la loterie de la Fellowship 2007 durant la rencontre de la
FOSDEM à Bruxelles
"La communauté des Logiciels Libres est basée sur une coopération d'individus
de tous bords. La Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) travaille
exclusivement pour le compte de la communauté entière, y compris les
entreprises qui utilisent les Logiciels Libres," explique Georg Greve,
président de la FSFE. "Nous faisons ce travail avec plaisir et beaucoup
d'enthousiasme nous n'oublions jamais que ce travail est en grande partie
réalisable grâce à ceux qui travaillent avec nous et nous soutiennent, en
particulier les nombreux Fellows de la FSFE."
Stefano Maffulli, coordinateur du Fellowship de la FSFE explique: "Il y a
beaucoup de manières de soutenir le travail de la FSFE et toutes sont
importantes, mais la Fellowship est spéciale: c'est une communauté de
personnes qui prennent la responsabilité d'apporter leur contribution
annuelle pour maintenir le bon fonctionnement de la fondation
et beaucoup d'entre eux sont actifs dans des rencontres de la Fellowship ou
lors d'autres activités."
Maffulli continue: "Il y a des entreprises qui soutiennent la FSFE pour
montrer qu'ils apprécient notre travail, et en contrepartie nous aimerions à
notre tour montrer combien nous apprécions nos Fellows. Cette année nous
sommes ravis de faire cela en partageant des équipements offerts par des
entreprises soutenant les Logiciels Libres:

Le premier Avril 2007 la FSFE va tirer au sort parmi tous ses Fellows les

"Nous espérons que ce tirage ne sera pas uniquement l'occasion de remercier
tous les membres de la Fellowship, mais également une opportunité pour
informer un plus grand nombre de personnes au sujet de la Fellowship
et du travail de la FSFE," explique Joachim Jakobs, coordinateur média de la
FSFE. "Pour cette raison nous proposons au téléchargement des boutons web [8]
qui offrent un lien direct vers la page de la loterie de la Fellowship [8].
Les entreprises en ligne peuvent aussi soutenir le tirage de la Fellowship.
"Elles peuvent mettre un lien vers notre page de loterie et/ou imprimer le
modèle de notre autocollant et le coller sur tous leurs envois durant le mois
de mars," précise Jakobs.
Stefano Maffulli ajoute: "Il s'agit ici de la troisième et de la plus grande
loterie de la Fellowship à ce jour. Pour refléter la mission et la vision à
long terme de la FSFE, nous allons probablement commencer
des tirages spéciaux basés sur la durée d'adhésion des Fellows à la
Fellowship."

1. La FSFE devient le défenseur juridique du Projet OpenSwarm
OpenSwarm est le deuxième projet à utiliser les services fiduciaires de
la "Freedom Task Force" (FTF) de la FSFE. OpenSwarm est conçu pour être
un ensemble holistique d'outils de développement logiciel par modèles,
centré sur la création facile d'applications commerciales puissantes
dans le domaine des solutions Web et données. En signant la "Fiduicary
License Agreement" (FLA) avec la FSFE, le projet autorise la FSFE à
devenir son défenseur juridique.

3. Lancement de Windows Vista - la FSFE recommande le passage à GNU/Linux
A l'occasion du lancement de Windows Vista la FSFE rappelle les dangers
et menaces liés à l'utilisation de logiciels propriétaires. Comme
beaucoup d'utilisateurs vont migrer vers un nouveau système
d'exploitation, la FSFE recommande de saisir la chance de se débarrasser
des chaînes de logiciels propriétaires et de choisir une solution basée
sur les Logiciels Libres.

Le poste de stagiaire dans le bureau de la FSFE à Zürich devenant vacant
en mars, la FSFE cherche quelqu'un pour continuer la série de stagiaires
motivés et intéressés. Un stage avec la FSFE est une expérience variée,
excitante et ambitieuse et il n'existe que peu d'autres occasions de
travailler avec une ONG aussi dynamique au niveau international.

Le message de Vista: passez à GNU/Linux maintenant!
Microsoft a récemment été critiqué pour certaines de ses décisions
concernant son système d'exploitation Microsoft Vista, qui menacent nos
valeurs démocratiques et sociales fondamentales.
« Malheureusement, de nombreux articles et constatations à propos de
problèmes avec Microsoft Vista ne sont pas vraiment spécifiques à
Vista. Des problèmes très similaires existent dans n'importe quel
logiciel propriétaire », dit Georg Greve, le président de la FSFE.
« Depuis que la première FSF a été fondée en 1985, les Free Software
Foundations ont compris et combattu les menaces que le logiciel
propriétaire pose à notre société. »
Il continue: « Parce qu'aujourd'hui la compréhension de ces dangers
s'améliore, nous avons vu ces dernières années un mouvement sans
précédent vers le Logiciel Libre, que ce soit de la part de
gouvernements, d'utilisateurs ou d'entreprises. Plus les logiciels
propriétaires utilisent le contrôle absolu qu'ils peuvent exercer sur
les utilisateurs, plus les gens commencent à rechercher des
alternatives. »
La Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) encourage tous les
utilisateurs de logiciels propriétaires à faire le bilan et à
considérer les alternatives.
Les Logiciels Libres ont démontré qu'ils avaient une forte tendance à
être plus fiables et plus sûrs, et qu'ils s'accordaient mieux avec nos
valeurs sociales et démocratiques. Le choix devrait être évident à
faire.
En 2006, la FSFE a lancé sa Freedom Task Force (FTF), une activité qui
offre des informations et des services à propos des licences de
Logiciels Libres, l'un des aspects importants à considérer pour tout
gouvernement ou entreprise qui envisage de passer au Logiciel Libre.
La FTF répond aussi aux demandes, propose des formations de tout
niveau, et aide à implémenter de bonnes pratiques dans les
organisations. Avec un réseau d'experts juridiques et techniques dans
toute l'Europe, elle est parfaitement équipée pour s'occuper
quotidiennement de ces affaires.
Un des aspects techniques sur lesquels travaille la FSFE concerne les
restrictions de liberté qui découlent des DRM (Digital Restriction
Management). Cette technique donne à l'industrie des possibilités
sans précédent pour contrôler tout ce que les consommateurs font de
leurs équipements: elle lui permet de décider arbitrairement de
changer ce que l'utilisateur peut faire avec l'information numérique à
sa disposition, en outrepassant le droit national et international.
Le vice-président de la FSFE, Jonas Öberg, explique: « Alors que les
DRM sont d'une certaine manière un autre problème, il est important de
réaliser que les fournisseurs de médias appuient les DRM surtout dans
les logiciels propriétaires. C'est parce qu'ils savent qu'avec un
logiciel propriétaire l'utilisateur n'a aucun contrôle, et qu'il n'a
aucun moyen de retrouver ses droits légitimes. Quand il utilise un
Logiciel Libre, l'utilisateur peut changer et adapter le logiciel, ou
demander à quelqu'un de le faire, en contournant ainsi les
restrictions les plus inacceptables. Alors il n'est pas surprenant
que l'industrie soutienne des produits tels que Microsoft Vista et
d'autres logiciels propriétaires: cela leur donne plus de contrôle sur
ce que l'utilisateur peut faire. »
Tous ces aspects doivent être pris en compte en faisant de la
prospective. Le projet COSPA, financé par l'Union Européenne,
considère que c'est un avantage de rester « indépendant des éditeurs
de logiciels ». Et, de manière encore plus importante, il met en
avant le fait que le Logiciel Libre débouche sur la création de
nouvelles entreprises de développement logiciel et permet d'avancer
vers le but fixé par l'Union Européenne au sommet de Lisbonne: faire
de l'Europe en 2010 une économie de la connaissance, la plus
compétitive du monde.
La FSFE considère que c'est une occasion unique: avec la sortie de
Vista, les utilisateurs devront passer à un nouveau système
d'opération qui leur semblera différent et qui leur demandera du temps
pour s'habituer à toutes ses fonctionnalités. La même chose est
valable pour n'importe quelle distribution moderne de GNU/Linux.
L'effort demandé est à peu près le même, mais il vous donnera le
contrôle sur vos propres données.

La FSFE devient le défenseur juridique du Projet OpenSwarm
Le Projet OpenSwarm est devenu signataire du « Fiduciary Licence
Agreement » (FLA), un transfert de droits qui permet à la FSFE de devenir le
défenseur juridique de projets logiciels.
Anastasios Hatzis, le développeur à l'origine de la plate-forme de
développement par modèles OpenSwarm pour applications Python, a entrepris
d'en transférer le droit d'auteur à la FSFE. « Mon entreprise - HATZIS
Edelstahlbearbeitung GmbH - voulait encourager l'existence d'une communauté
de développement autour de la technologie OpenSwarm, tout en soulignant notre
engagement envers le Logiciel Libre », déclare Anastasios. « Le FLA nous a
fourni une excellente manière de nous assurer de la cohérence du code et d'un
cadre pour le développement à long terme. »
Le Projet OpenSwarm sera protégé par la « Freedom Task Force » (FTF) de la
FSFE. Shane Coughlan, coordinateur de la FTF, explique: « La FTF est là pour
aider à renforcer les bases juridiques de l'écosystème du Logiciel Libre. Le
"transfert fiduciaire de licence" fait partie de cela. Il fournit aux projets
une manière simple de consolider leur copyright. Dans le cas d'OpenSwarm, la
FSFE joue le rôle de défenseur juridique du projet et assure ainsi que les
développeurs puissent se concentrer sur la maturation de cette excitante
plate-forme de développement. »
« L'engagement de la FSFE est d'aider à améliorer la maturité de la communauté
du Logiciel Libre, ce qui inclut la viabilité juridique du Logiciel Libre sur
le long terme », explique Georg Greve, le président de la FSFE. Il ajoute:
« La FSFE a un rôle spécifique à jouer dans cela, et nous voulons remercier
Stichting NLnet pour leur soutien lors du lancement de la FTF et lors de ses
premières activités. Nous espérons que d'autres groupes nous apporteront
également leur soutien. »
Shane Coughlan résume: « La mission de la FTF est d'aider les individus, les
projets et les entreprises à se rendre compte des avantages des licences de
Logiciel Libre, et de faciliter l'utilisation de ces licences grâce au
transfert de droits d'auteur à des fins fiduciaires. Le Projet Bacula a été
le premier à bénéficier de notre programme fiduciaire, et le cas d'OpenSwarm
souligne l'intérêt continu des développeurs pour ce service. »
