Bozen. Die überwiegend deutschsprachige italienische Provinz Südtirol hat in vielen Bereichen eine Brückenfunktion zwischen Deutschland und Italien. So auch bei Freier Software.
Weil Freie Software auch in Südtirol immer erfolgreicher wird, hat die GNU/Linux User Group Bozen/Bolzano/Bulsan [1] den traditionellen Linux Day zu einer dreitägigen South Tyrolean Free Software Conference (26.-28.11.2004) [2] ausgebaut. Das Programm ist bunt gemischt und soll auch Menschen außerhalb der klassischen Zielgruppen ansprechen, etwa durch das erste Südtiroler Autorentreffen der freien Enzyklopädie Wikipedia. Ein südtirol-typisches Highlight versteckt sich hinter dem Titel "Linux und Kunst", bei dem alpine Holzschnitzereien vorgestellt werden, die durch GNU/Linux-Rechner zum Leben erweckt werden wie etwa der "Bodyguard", der den Eintretenden skeptisch hinterherschaut.
Unterstützt wird die Free Software Conference vom Debian Projekt und der Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE). Deren Sprecher halten drei Vorträge. Werner Koch wird über "Privatsphäre und Verschlüsselungstechniken" sprechen, und Alessandro Rubini bietet Präsentationen zu "Freie Software in der Bildung" und "Einführung in die Kernel-Programmierung" an.
Die Vorträge finden in deutscher und italienischer Sprache statt. Die Teilnahme ist kostenlos. Unterkunftsmöglichkeiten gibt es unter [3].
