You make several interesting points in your reasoning, and I'm glad that you took the time to clarify to us your decision to not support our campaign.
In your recent emails your concerns relate to these words in particular:
these programs do not respect your right to control your own privacy and data.
By stating this, FSFE does not seek to imply that all proprietary applications necessarily undermine your privacy. We are aware that many non-Free programs have the utmost respect for user privacy.
However, when the source code is not available, users cannot _know_ what the application does. The user does not have control over what happens to their data as they do not know how it is stored and communicated. Non-Free software users have no choice but to rely on the honesty and responsibility of whoever developed their application.
In this way "these programs do not respect your right to control your own privacy and data". When using non-Free software you do not control your data, your application does, because it does it secretly. Therefore your right to control your own privacy and data is not respected. Even if the non-Free application does a good job of respecting your privacy, it still denies you the possibility of controlling it yourself.
We do not believe that the pdfreaders.org website makes any libellous claims.
