Relaunched in September 2010, FSFE's pdfreaders campaign aims at raising awareness about the unfair practices of public institutions toward the promotion of software on their website, namely in the case of PDF readers. After hundreds of voluntaries helped us gather more than 2000 institutions advertising gratuitously for non free software, FSFE is now contacting all the institutions on the list to explain them how to better respect people's freedom - what should always be the goal of public institutions.
Across Europe, public authorities are reacting to the campaign. Merely one week after the first sendings, a dozen of institutions have changed their website. In Croatia, more than half of the websites reported have already been fixed. In Germany, where 50 institutions have been contacted so far, 3 cities have changed their website to make them more respectful of user's freedom, as have some Slovenian institutions and Italian institutions of the region of Modena e Reggio Emilia.
