Hello,
I noticed that on the international free software law review, where we
use the Open Journal Systems, there was some link to Acrobat. So I asked
how to change it and suggested pdfreaders.org
You can see the bugzilla ticket here
http://pkp.sfu.ca/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=6746
In the future, I hope that everyone using this software will update and
stop making advertisement for Acrobat.
Best,
Hugo

Hi,
I am a Physics student and I've discovered a very important site for all
Physics' and scientist comunity, the NIST (National Institute of
Standards and Technology)[1], which is recommending not only Acrobat
Reader, but a lot of more non-free programs[2]. I've though seriously to
notice the webmaster by myself, but I don't know free replaces for all
the programs that they are recommending (7!), my english is not very
good and also you have a more impressive sign than me. Please, I ask you
that you write to the webmaster (her email is on the bottom of [2]
web-page) with all the help that she could need for the migration.
Feel free to contact me about that issue or to ask for collaboration.
I'd do it by myself, but I think you'll do it better than me this time.
Regards,
Daniel

hi Ole,
better now than never, IIRC you said to me at FOSDEM, that you have a
script, which might help FSFE to identify non-free PDF advertisement on
public institution's websites and generate e-mails.
I would be very interested in that, as now we are starting a bigger
fellow up for the campaign in the different countries. So your script
might save us a lot of time. Can you sent the script and a short docu,
how it works?
Thanks a lot,
Matthias

Hello. I am a strong free software supporter, trying to help in any
possible way free software to move forward. I'm involved in the French
Trisquel community mostly as a translator and in Replicant, the 100%
free Android version as a developer. Now that I introduced myself,
here's the subject of this mail: the psview software included in the
http://www.pdfreaders.org/ list.
My big problem with this software being in that list is that the way you
present it "psview (online)" suggests that this software is to be used
online on the http://view.samurajdata.se/ website. Although this
software is indeed free software, using it online on the server the user
doesn't own makes it Software as a Service (SaaS) : this is bad because
the user has no control over the computing that is done on this server
while it handles the user data to return back only the output.
Even if the software that runs on the server is apparently free software
and that the source code is given, the following issues remain:
* We have no way to be sure that the source code that is distributed is
actually what's used on this software: we have to trust the good will of
the person who owns the server.
* Even if the code is free, we have no guarantee that the person who
owns the server won't keep the files we submit and do a nasty use of
these.
* We don't know on the top of what it runs : the system running on the
server may contain some non-free parts that could do a nasty use of the
data we send to the server.
etc. These are not individuals problems in themselves but consequences
of Software as a Service.
Promoting such uses is not, in my opinion, promoting freedom. And this
opinion seems shared with Richard M. Stallman, who wrote an article
about this called "Who does that server really serve" (I guess you
already know about it):
Perhaps promoting the use of this server the user has no control over
wasn't your intention: maybe your intention was to mention that such a
software exist and since it's free, can be used by anyone on a server
they own. This makes the use of this software respect the user freedom
and can indeed be encouraged.
Anyway, when I went on this page and saw this, my impression was that
you recommend using this on the server the link points to.
I suggest you to add some information along with the link to this
software on the http://www.pdfreaders.org/ website or to remove the link
to it (but this is perhaps a bit too much, even if I'm convinced that
almost all the users who'll click on this link won't download the
software to use it on their own server but us it directly on this
server, thinking they're taking good care of their freedom).
Thanks for the attention to my message,
I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi!
I want to update you about the current status of the PDFreaders
follow-up campaign in Russia.
In the end of May I contacted all the Russian institutions listed in our
buglist which seemed not to remove improper ads of proprietary software
(Adobe mainly) from their websites. All together I have sent 31 emails,
with our letter in Russian included (I modified a bit a sample letter
that we have on the website. I uploaded then new version of the letter).
I got 3 replies: 2 organizations removed links, 1 was an inquiry about
FSFE and Free Software in general. I edited information in the buglist
appropriately.
Organizations that removed improper ads:
Министерство связи и массовых коммуникаций Российской Федерации
Правительство Нижегородской области
In July I have contacted the organizations that have not replied yet one
more time. No replies and no changes done yet.
Please see list of organizations I have contacted twice since May 2011

To file complaints the Italian authority for telecommunications (AGCOM)
requires using a dynamic PDF, which can only be read with Adobe Acrobat.
It says "for other compatible applications, consult the websites of
their manufacturers" (but which other have this feature? it's not said).
http://www.agcom.it/default.aspx?message=contenuto&dcid=200
Note that THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE way to present complaints.
Cheers
