The 643-page tome, called Untangling the Web: A Guide to Internet Research (.pdf), was just released by the NSA following a FOIA request filed in April by MuckRock, a site that charges fees to process public records for activists and others.
The book was published by the Center for Digital Content of the National Security Agency, and is filled with advice for using search engines, the Internet Archive and other online tools. But the most interesting is the chapter titled “Google Hacking.”

There is some benefit to police using the web to find out about Facebook party invites that go viral and making sure they have rostered resources to babysit 2,000 kids on a Saturday night - but my own country, Australia, is actually using such material as evidence for secret courts to lock up foreigners. If you are coloured, poor and born in another country, this type of material can be used in place of real evidence, "trial by google", and you are guilty until proven innocent (but with no access to the evidence to help you prove what you are not guilty of).

Hey, this is really interesting, I believe facebook was used as evidence against some kids in the riots etc here in the UK.
