I would love this. We might be able to get some sponsored usb disks - not form anyone to scary though. Or we could bulk buy some and put cryptoparty stickers on them OMG STICKERS!!!!

Thanks for the invitation yesterday!

I must admit that i only got into computer recently, still have a lot to learn, so thanks for the patience for my stuttering and nervousness last nite! A couple of note:

1)next crypto party Mick, i like the idea:D There is definitely a lot of area for us to work on. also i would like to suggest looking into open source hardware for security reason(see below)

2) usb security I started to working in the field of personal and computer security due to the need of activists and artists.(trust me, some stories are proper scary...) USB key based operating system seems to be the most secure option in a hostile situation.(ie. basically not trusting any piece of machine u encounter) However given that, we did speak to the guys at Tails and they confirmed that 'usb contains firmware that can potentially be flashed by the user and / or an adversary depending on the model.'

3)Liberte and Bootloader. Yes the guys at plop (www.plop.at) also said its possible to have a bootloader such as refit and a linux on the same usb. (But i have been too much of a fairy to sit down to work on it. another thing on the to-do-list. but if anyone have managed it, please keep us updated!)

4)anon linux and hardware Thanks for the update ash, i only tested the liberte on 2010 mac models. There have been some problem with different machines, e.g. tails sometime cant boot on thinkpad or old dell model. we are trying to compile a list for it.

Hello, This article is driven by the request from the raising amount of MacBook Air user who we met at Crypto Party. For the last while, we have been encouraging using anonymous LInux OS e.g. Tails and Liberte, which unfortunately do not support Mac user. In the last article, we have introduced booting linux usb mac with a boot DVD. This time we have figured how to boot it with a boot usb and

we have managed to boot Liberte on macbook air.

Ingredients: -A mac -2 USBs (for convenience and clarity, we will refer them as USB I and USB II) -Liberte Linux -reFIT bootloader

1. Format and install liberte Linux on USB I

2. lnstall reFit. on USB II

Go to http://refit.sourceforge.net/ [7], download rEFIt 0.14 (disk image) Unpack it and copy the “efi” folder to the root of the volume. Open Terminal and enter the following commands: “/Volumes/(yourusbname)/efi/refit/enable.sh”

3.Keep both USBs in the machine and restart it. When the white screen come on( the moment before the apple logo appears), press 'alt'--this enables us to choose which volumes we want our machine to boot from.

4.Now you should about see two extra volumes beside your original apple internal hard disk. Click 'EFI BOOT', then your liberte should be running smoothly.

note:

1. we have tested this on a macbook air 2010 model.
2. This does not support Tails.
3. This also does not work on apple mini.(2010)
