Hi all
The next Bitcoin Manchester is confirmed. It will be Monday 1st June, 7-9pm at the Manchester Digital Laboratory (MadLab).
April's speaker will be Judith Aldridge[1] of the Criminology department, Manchester University School of Law. A snippet from the description (see website link below for full details):
Silk Road (and its successor marketplaces) have often been characterised as an “eBay for drugs”, with customers thought to be drug consumers making personal use-sized purchases. We found that a substantial proportion of transactions on Silk Road could be characterised as ‘business-to-business’. High price-quantity purchases generated at least one third of all revenue generated on this cryptomarket as estimated in September 2013, one week before the FBI shut the site. We assess how transformative online drugs cryptomarkets might be, considering how international the market was, and the implications for conflict, intimidation and violence.
As always we’ll have free pizza (paid for by bitcoin, of course) during the event, and afterwards we’ll head over to Common bar.

Hi all
The next Bitcoin Manchester is confirmed. It will be Monday 11th May, 7-8pm at the Manchester Digital Laboratory (MadLab) followed by Common Bar.
We don’t have a speaker this month. We nearly cancelled this meetup but we’ve decided to run a short informal meetup at Manchester Digital Laboratory follow by a trip to the pub.
The first hour or so we’ll spend in MadLab eating pizza suppled by one of the Bitcoin-accepting Takeaway.com vendors. We’ll go through the news from the last month and discuss any topics people want to raise (ranting about the election is acceptable!). New Bitcoin users are welcome to join, we can show you how to set up a wallet if you need any help.
Afterwards we’ll go to Common across the road for liquid refreshment and more Bitcoin talk (ranting about the election is also acceptable here).
