=== OSS 2013 | Call for Papers and Workshop Proposals ====
The 9th International Conference on Open Source Systems (http://oss2013.case.unibz.it)
Koper/Capodistria, Slovenia, 25-28 June 2013
Scope of OSS 2013 -----------------
Free Open Source Software (FOSS) is nowadays influencing the way organizations and individuals create, distribute, acquire, and use software and software-based services. FOSS applications are supporting the web based economy and it is growingly being adopted by public institutions. It has become a useful instrument for educators and researchers as well as an important aspect of e-government and information society initiatives. The transparency of its development process and its resulting open source code has become a viable alternative to closed source software. Publicly funded software development projects are often required to produce FOSS. The widespread adoption of FOSS has introduced new challenges as new legal constraints between integrated FOSS and CSS components, requirement of a more structured development process that allows the collaboration of a large number of stakeholders, or the requirement of a stronger quality control of development processes and FOSS products. FOSS verification is gaining momentum in FOSS communities; code debugging, and adherence to code conventions have already an important role in FOSS projects. The adoption of other verification activities can further contribute to the quality of FOSS.
The goal of the 9th International Conference on Open Source Systems, OSS 2013 is to provide an international forum where a diverse community of professionals from academia, industry and public sector, and diverse FOSS initiatives can come together to share research findings and practical experiences. The conference is also meant to provide information to practitioners, identify directions for further research, and to be an ongoing platform for technology transfer, no matter which form of FOSS is being pursued.
OSS 2013 accepts research papers, industry papers, formal tool demonstrations, lightning talks and posters. It also invites proposals for tutorials and workshops, submissions to the doctoral symposium, and submissions of panels. Accepted papers will be included in the conference proceedings, which are published by Springer. Authors are invited to submit papers and proposals on a variety of FOSS topics, including but not limited to the list of topics described in this call. This year's major conference theme is FOSS Verification.
