Jag har börjat föredra OpenOffice före andra textredigerare, just för ordbehandling. Jag använder Ctrl+123, samt Ctrl+Alt+Upp/Ner för att flytta omkring text på ett mycket behändigt sätt. Jag har mycket sällan behövt "hitta" information i de dokument jag skriver. De skall oftast läsas av någon annan. Plain text i plain/text-argumentet har inte haft så stor praktisk vikt helt enkelt. Möjlighet att kunna återanvända bitar har jag heller aldrig haft nytta av.
Gällande kodmiljö: Saknar Eclipse. Används mycket hos min kund där man kodar C++ i icke-inbäddade system (snarare tvärtom där man gärna har 64 GB RAM per burk).
De använder Eclipse för utveckling och debugging och eftersom de blandar C(++), Java och Python kraftigt har de en väl fungerande plattform som de kan köra och då blanda runtime (Java och Python har wrappers in till C-land) men ändå följa med över gränserna och se som händer. De har en hel del die hard-gökar som sitter och skriver kod i Emacs (få vim-anhängare). Det är inget som helst fel på dessa personer, men det finns en icke försumbar skillnad i effektivitet. Det behöver inte alls ha med val av utvecklingsmiljö att göra, men korrelationen är mycket stark på de tio-talet utvecklare jag mött i detta gränsland av miljöer jag själv skulle vara borttappad i väldigt fort (problemet är C++).
YMMV, men mina empiriska data är givetvis relevanta i alla lägen ;-)
Jag använder vim och Eclipse för Python och JavaScript (Aptana Studio), lite beroende på hur stort problemet är.
För Java gav jag upp vim ca 2001. :)
