For any list members that have been living under a rock, or have ignored all list posts right up until this one:
Irish Free Software Organsation has been launched.
The site is at: http://ifso.info
If you've contributed to projects on this list, check http://ifso.info/people.html and send me a mail if you're names not there.
Please pass on an annoucement to other lists and websites. Multiple submissions to slashdot wouldn't be a bad idea.
I'll still be making corrections to the site during the day, so keep sending bug reports.
Here's a sample announcement that I think covers everything that makes the launch news worthy:
January 5th 2004, Irish Free Software Organisation[0] (IFSO) is launched. Since June 2003, members of the fsfe-ie[1] mailing list have been collaborating on issues such as software patents[2], and the European Copyright Directive[3]. With Ireland holding the presidency of the EU for the next six months, political lobbying in Ireland will be of increased importance. The fate of the software patentability directive is still undecided, and we now also have the Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Directive[4] to deal with. In the coming months, we also hope to work on spreading education and adoption of Free Software in Ireland. By no coincidence, today is also the 20th anniversary of the beginning of the GNU project[5].

Hi,
Great work on the site :)
I'm not living in Ireland much in the last years but work a lot on patent and copyright questions, formerly at the Information Law Institute in NYU and now in an adhoc research cabal in search of a name. Most recently we worked on a campaign called We Seize! around the World Summit on the Information Society.

Anyway, practically I'm writing for two reasons. The first is that I'll be doing a lot of research work on the IP enforcement drive in the next months and would like to contribute to IFSO's work on that. Perhaps Teresa remembers me as we met in September.
Secondly I have about 40 copies of a newsprint tabloid produced for the WSIS concentrating on IP issues called world information. I think it's useful as the articles are concise and to the point. You can see the PDF version here: http://www.t0.or.at/wio/wsis/wio_wsis_web.pdf
So I don't know if there is a plan to celebrate the birth of the site and twenty years of GNU, but I'd be glad to have chance to hand over the goods and enjoy a natter. I'll be here until next week.
cheers,
a.
