Our government is working on legislation to hand control of the internet in Ireland to aggressive copyright holders such as those of the music-hype industry. Under this legislation, copyright holders will be able to cheaply apply to get websites blacklisted at the national level.
People with websites will face expensive court battles just to stay online, and many will have their online freedom of speech taken away.
A petition against this has already gathered 28,000 signatures. This has the potential to put the (ir)responsible Minister, Seán Sherlock, under real pressure to change sides and support the Irish people.
