Hi there.
Last night at the meeting, we discussed the logo options. Firstly, we would like to thank everyone who provided one as they were all good.
On the Gnu/Harp issue, we agreed not to use it for our main logo.
We have decided to use a variant of one of the following two: * the second on this page: http://homepage.eircom.net/~cathalmcginley/logos.html We like this, but feel the s and f are slightly too bunched. * or this one: http://www.cs.tcd.ie/David.OCallaghan/images/ifso/ Here, we feel that there is too much whitespace between the letters.
In both cases, we feel the title "Irish Free Software Organisation" should be written underneath the logo in a single line of text (probably in Roman or similar font). This would only be used to the big versions of the logo.
Cathal and David: if you have time, would you mind creating some variants according to these suggestions.
I think we'll probably make a decision pretty quickly.
Good luck,
Malcohol.

OK, I've done this (see the same link) as it was relatively quick...

...but I haven't done this yet, because I forgot!

Okies, I've quickly made the suggested changes, here's the link http://homepage.eircom.net/~cathalmcginley/revised-logo.html

Excellent new logos. Thanks, both of you, for doing them up.
Based on the opinions of those at the meeting the other night, I suspect that we would favour the new celtic version: http://homepage.eircom.net/~cathalmcginley/revised-logo.html
Before we decide, I have one (pedantic) query. Where did the original font come from and can we be sure that there is no copyright issue involved with scanning it?
Good luck,
Malcohol.

The font was scanned from "Aodh Mac Aingil agus scoil Nua-Ghaedhilge i Lobháin" by Tomás Ó Cléirigh, (Dublin, 1935). It seems to have been published by 'Foillseachán Rialtas' - i.e. the government publishing house. If there's still copyright contention on the /font/ after that amount of time, then that's grounds for protest in and of itself :o)
B.T.W. I'm doing up a slightly better resolution version of the modified logo, hopefully in vector graphic format, to eliminate some of the crooked edges. The first ones I posted were just quick sketches, after all.
Cheers
