Hi all, On Tuesday night I gave a software patents talk at UCD. Some more info and a video of the first 50 minutes is available at: http://www.netsoc.ucd.ie/talks/swpatent/ It's a 268Mb .avi file, sound quality is good, but I'm going to write a transcript in case some of it isn't clear enough. The transcript, and possible some alternate file formats should appear at the above page soon. Thanks go to David Cathcart and the UCD Netsoc crew for organising this event. Talk on software patents

Ciaran O'Riordan is giving a talk to members of ucd Netsoc on the current European Union directive on software patents on tuesday the 7th october at 7pm in ucd (i don't yet know which lecture theater - check netsoc.ucd.ie). This is a public lecture open to all, there is no entrance fee. It is part of a series of talks that we are running this semester on the general theme of something like "Legal issues concerned with computers". Two other talks (hopefully 28th oct and 18th nov) will be on "Data Retention in Ireland" and "The current European Union directive on Copyright" and given by Karen Lillington and Ciaran O'Riordan respectively, all are welcome.
