Okay. :) Bin hier im Eishockeyspiel bischen aufgewuehlt. Sorry deswegen. Aber ist nun wieder hier wieder vergessen. Ich setze meinen Debian-Kurs weiter, bin froh ein OpenMoko mit SHR-Unstable (hab dort einen Bug mit fixen koennen) zu haben und dass es (SHR) auch recht gut laeuft und Debian Unstable zwar mal Zicken hat, aber ansonsten ganz gut laeuft.

Aber ich hoffe, du kannst mich verstehen? Staat und Vorbildsfunktion und so? Davon sollte man aber auch nicht so viel Gebrauch machen, das klingelt den Staatsdienern auch irgentwann im Ohr... Okay, hoffen wir mal, dass die Linux-Gemeinde weiter waechst, auch hier in Deutschland und sowieso weltweit, wenn nicht im Staat, egal, dann halt in der Bevoelkerung und Serverlandschaft sowieso. :)
Was bei vielen Leuten fehlt (und bei mir oefters dafuer gesorgt hat, dass ich Linux behalten habe und ich habe wirklich harte Dinger an meiner lokalen Maschine + Server gefixt) ist der Ehrgeiz, es doch ein zweites Mal zu probieren und vielleicht auch mal sagen zu koennen, "hey, wir haben kein Windows, da wir wissen, wieso wir Linux einsetzen".
Aus meiner eigenen Verwandschaft (und sogar Freundeskreis) sind mir entsprechende Dinge bekannt, meine Verwandten sind nun nicht direkt Linux-verdrossen (vielleicht auch etwas uebertrieben), aber sie wollen nicht mehr zu Linux zurueckkehren und eine andere Distri zu testen (ich hatte, shame on me, ihnen Unstable installiert) bzw. in meinem Freundeskreis wird es leider auch nicht ein zweites Mal angegangen, nur weil es *einmal* (vielleicht ein schlechtes Release erwischt?) nicht klappte.
Und da muss ich leider sagen, man kann sich dumm stellen und Windows installieren koennen (siehe mein Vermieter, der weiss nicht mal ob ATI oder nVidia eingebaut ist). Bei Linux geht das nicht, seien wir doch mal ehrlich. Okay, Hardware-Auto-Detection ist unterwegs, aber wie weit ist es wirklich, dass "Otto-Normalverbraucher" eine Installations-CD reintun kann (wie bei M$ halt) und kann zu einem Ergebnis kommen: Linux ist installiert und sogar etwas sicher (-er als M$ mindestens).
Okay, ich mache hier mal Punkt. Vielleicht kann man das ja in Chemnitz weiter diskutieren und weitere Ueberlegungen machen. Die Server-Admins haben wir so gut wie gewonnen, das steht nun so gut wie fest. :) Verderben wir es und mit denen aber nicht. Sonst ist Linux ("der Kostensparer" auch irgentwann runter von der Platte).

Das stimmt so einfach nicht. Wenn man nicht gerade Pech mit der Hardware hat, ist sowas wie Ubuntu heutzutage wesentlich leichter zu installieren und einzurichten als Windows. Ubuntu hat zwar leider öfters Macken -- aber objektiv gesehen wahrscheinlich eher weniger als Windows. (Nur empfinden die Leute es leider mehr, da sie sich and die Windows-Probleme längst gewöhnt haben, und an die von Ubuntu noch nicht...)
Der wirkliche Unterschied ist, dass die meisten Leute nie Windows installieren -- es ist halt schon drauf; und wenn es zickt, müssen halt Freunde, Verwandte und Kollegen aushelfen.
Letzteres ist übrigens so ziemlich das einzige legithime Argument gegen GNU/Linux: Da es immer noch verhältnismäßig wenige Leute mit entsprechenden Erfahrungen gibt, ist es viel schwieriger, im näheren Umfeld Hilfe zu finden.

Okay, das mit der Angewoehnung hatte ich aussen vor gelassen. :)

Oder zur Not die eigenen Mieter. :( Ich habe da so einen Vermieter, der bei mir gerne ankommt, weil "ich mich ja mit Computer auskenne".

Genau darunter haben meine Verwandte auch gelitten und sind dann doch zu Windows gewechselt, da sie im Nachbar-Umfeld mehr Hilfe bekommen koennen. :-( Zudem hatte man ihnen erzaeht, dass ihr Linux 2.6 total veraltet sei, da es bereits ein "Linux 11" gaebe. Dabei redete er von der Distributionsversion und ich habe meinen Eltern natuerlich den seinerzeit aktuellen, stabilen Kernel aufgespielt gehabt.
Ist halt immer noch verwirrend, ob ein Linux 2.6.37 gegen ueber einem "Linux 11" komplett veraltet ist, oder ob jemand Distributionsversion mit Kernelversion wechselt hat. :) Und die neusten Pakete hatte ich auch eingespielt.
Naja, ich wende mich dieser Diskussion mal ab und werde mich der viel wesentlicheren Aufgabe hinwenden, es mangelt naemlich bei meinen Projekten an nicht kommenden Commits.

Das ist BTW auch der Grund warum meine Schwester Ubuntu hat. Sie hatten nen neues gebrauchtes Notebook gekauft und ihr Mann braucht es am Montag. Am Samstag haben sie es mir gegeben. Da ich an dem Wochenende sowieso zu wenig Zeit hatte, hab ich gesagt: Entweder Ubuntu oder gar nichts, Windows kann ich später wenn Zeit ist nachinstallieren. Die 30GB Partition für Windows blieb bis heute leer, weil sie begeistert waren :)
Ubuntu installation mit allen Programmen usw. dauert 1-3 Stunden (eher 1-2 Stunden) Bei Windows eine halbe Ewigkeit...
