Ist schon irgendwie peinlich, er hat damit zugegeben den Internet Explorer zu nutzen, denn soweit ich weiß sind alle anderen Browser OpenSource...
Obwohl bei Safari bin ich mir da nicht so sicher...

Safari ist proprietär, basiert allerdings auf freier Software, weshalb auch Teile davon unter LGPL stehen (IIRC).

Das ist ja das Geschäftmodell von Apple. Sie nehmen OpenSource Software, und setzen darauf ihre kommerzielle Produkte auf. Z. B. basiert Mac OS X auf Darwin, einen unixoider Kernel, der unter einer OpenSource Lizenz verfügbar ist.

Genaugenommen nehmen sie *Freie* Software und bauen ein *proprietäres* Produkt rundherum. Das funktioniert aber nur solange die Freie Software ein schwaches Copyleft hat. In Wirklichkeit macht Apple es nicht viel anders als Microsoft, mit dem Unterschied, dass sie sich wo es geht an Freier Software bedienen, aber nur wenig zurückgeben. Ein Wunder ist für mich z.B., dass CUPS nicht geforkt werden musste, nachdem Apple die Rechte daran gekauft hatte.

Ich staune, dass noch keiner Google Chrome erwähnt hat... Hat bereits deutlich mehr Marktanteil als Safari und Opera zusammen -- und bei dem aktuellen Trend wird es wohl nicht mehr lange dauern, bis er Firefox einholt :-(

Also ja, Chrome ist zwar als Endprodukt proprietär, aber ich nehme an dass in der von dir erwähnten Statistik nicht zwischen Chrome und Chromium unterschieden werden kann und letzterer ist die freie Variante von Chrome mit nur minimalem Funktionsunterschied.

Eben. Und Chrome ist nach IE mittler Weile bei weitem der populärste in dieser Kategorie.

Ein gutes Beispiel für Software mit einem relativ offenen Entwicklungsmodell, aber am Ende unfreier Lizenz -- um Mal an eine andere Diskussion anzuknüpfen :-)

Ich nehme eher an, dass sehr wohl unterschieden wird -- und Chromium dann mit Null-Komma-Nochwas Prozent Marktanteil unter "Sonstige" fällt...
