Hallo zusammen,
ich suche derzeit ein Handy mit Linux-/OpenSource-OS und bin dabei ueber das Motorola MOTO Z8 gestolpert. Das Handy kommt mit einem Symbian OS, was auf der Produktseite als "Open Operanting System" angepriesen wird, auf der Wikipedia-Seite lese ich jedoch das unliebsame Wort "prohibitory".
Was ist nun war? Zudem gibt es eine Seite, die sich als "OpenSource Center" ausgibt: http://www.symbianos.org/intro
Was haelt ihr davon?
Mir einfach einen Link zu http://www.openmoko.org/ zuschicken hilft mir auch nicht viel. :-( (Damit war jetzt Matthias-Christian Ott gemeint).

Es gibt derzeit leider noch kein (mir bekanntes) voll funktionsfähiges Telefon, welches komplett mit Freier Software läuft. Selbst Telefone, die als "linux based" angepriesen werden / wurden, arbeiten mit proprietärer Telefonsoftware.

Dachte ich es mir schon. Auf der Website http://lists.openmoko.org/pipermail/announce/ ist schon seit einigen Monaten nichts mehr passiert. Kann man da Hoffnung haben?
Es gibt derzeit leider noch kein (mir bekanntes) voll funktionsfähiges Telefon, welches komplett mit Freier Software läuft. Selbst Telefone, die als "linux based" angepriesen werden / wurden, arbeiten mit proprietärer Telefonsoftware.
Darunter faellt wohl auch das Z6 von Motorla - es wird naemlich als ein "Linux-Handy" angepriesen.
Naja, dann muss ich wohl fuer die naechste Zeit meinen Vertrag bei E-Plus kuendigen, da ich nicht 10 EURO fuer nix bezahlen will.

Um die OpenMoko Situation bewerten zu können, reicht es nicht in dem announce ML Archiv nachzusehen. Kleine Announcements im 2 Wochen Abstand gibt es auf der Community ML. Diese Announcements werden von Freiwilligen in konzentrierter Form im Wiki festgehalten.
Auf der OM-Kernel ML ist es in letzter Zeit ruhig geworden. Ich hoffe das heisst, es gibt keine größeren Schwierigkeiten und bereitet sich darauf vor geteste Geräte auszuliefern. :)
Das Freerunner wird schon irgendwann dieses Jahr kommen - die Software wird zunächst aber nicht dem entsprechen (funktionsmäßig), was du von einem Telefon mit proprietärem System bekommen kannst. Umgekehrt wird das Neo/Freerunner Dinge können, die du auf proprietären Plattformen niemals bekommen wirst (weil unternehmensstrategisch nicht gewollt).
Das große Geld verdienen will das Unternehmen mit dem aktuellen Produkt noch nicht - diese Aufgabe ist den Nachfolgemodellen vorbehalten, die nicht das Problem haben werden, dass das Design nicht mehr geändert werden darf.

Mir persoenlich ist Funktionalitaet (die ich von "reguaeleren" aka. prohibitaeren Telefonen her kenne) nicht so wichtig: Telefonieren und SMS, der Rest ist Nice-To-Have.

Ich schliesse es ja nicht aus. :) Aber der Ausdruck "Das grosse Geld verdienen" klang - wie soll ich es sagen - utopisch? Naja, ich bin da nicht 100% im Bilde, ob es mit freier Software/OS wirklich moeglich ist.

Der Grund dafür ist, das das Freerunner aus einem vorherigen Projekt geerbt worden ist und keine Möglichkeit mehr besteht große Änderungen (wie dem Gehäusedesign) vorzunehmen. Fast jeder dem ich das Neo gezeigt habe, fragt zB. nach einer Stifthalterung.

IBM? War das nicht so ein lachhaft kleines Unternehmen, dass Armbanduhren herstellt? ;-) Scherz. IBM ist mir natuerlich bekannt.

Ja, ich hab mal zwei Mailinglisten bestellt, die fuer mich Sinn machen. :) Aber soweit ich gelesen habe, muessen die "consumer" (also nicht die Beta-Tester) vom Freerunner weitere sechs Monate warten? Warten wir es also ab, was passiert. :)
