Wir wollen hier keinen Fundamentalismus predigen. Natürlich *hoffen* wir, dass möglichst alle nur noch freie Software nutzen. Aber wir können es nicht *fordern*: Denn die Entscheidung betrifft in den meisten Fällen in erster Linie die Leute selbst -- und damit sollte sie frei sein.
(Besser wäre es, das *Anbieten* unfreier Software zu verbieten -- so dass Leute gar nicht erst vor diese problematische Entscheidung gestellt werden :-) )
Ich hoffe, dass Du solche fundamentalistischen Ansichten nicht nach Außen trägst. Sowas schadet der Bewegung nämlich. Unsere Aufgabe ist es, die Leute *aufzuklären* -- und nicht ihnen Vorwürfe zu machen, wenn sie sich anders entscheiden.

hatte neulich eine erfahrung mit einem fs-prediger, der mich die ganze zeit von freier software überzeugen wollte und gar nicht wahrnehmen wollte, dass er mich nicht mehr überzeugen braucht. es ging dabei um filmschnitt (was ich ja schon oft deutlich gemacht habe, warum ich da proprietäre software nutze, und dass ich aber den fs-markt da sehr genau beobachte - frei nach dem motto: ich tausche photoshop nicht gegen tux-paint ein, aber sobald es gimp gibt, fliegt adobe aus dem fenster (höhö wortspiel) - und ich habe ein sehr genaues auge darauf, wann endlich das gimp des filmschnitts kommt). im verlauf des mailtauschs wurde er dann richtig arrogant und machte mir vorwürfe und machte meine arbeit klein ("die paar schnitte kannst du doch auch mit kino machen").
das war eine sehr ätzende erfahrung. und ich glaube an anderer stelle richtet so eine haltung sehr viel schaden an. das ist so schade, weil ich es ja total gut finde, dass leute ihre bakennte auf freie software hinweisen (siehe Convince your Friends). dabei ist es halt wichtig, dass die leute sich nicht bedrängt oder geschulmeistert fühlen. denn das ist eher schlecht fürs image.
In meiner Magisterarbeit bin ich übrigens gerade über einen schönen Satz von Kant aus "was ist Aufklärung" gestolpert:
Kant sagt dort, dass Freiheit wichtig ist, damit Menschen sich aufklären können. Aber lange nicht alle werden das tun. Das ist auch ok, so Kant. Dennoch müssen alle die Freiheit haben, "Denn da werden sich immer einige Selbstdenkende, sogar unter den eigesetzten Vormündern des großen Haufens, finden, welche, nachdem sie das Joch der Unmündigkeit selbst abgeworfen haben, den Geist einer vernünftigen Schätzung des eigenen Werts und des Berufs jedes Menschen, selbst zu denken, um sich verbreiten werden."
das hat mich sehr an die Freie Software-Bewegung erinnert (schreibe ich so auch in der arbeit). Es ist nicht wichtig, dass gleich alle die freiheit nutzen. es ist aber wichtig, dass die freiheit da ist. deshalb würde ich mich viel lieber dafür einsetzen, dass die freiheit (der software) auch für alle besteht. Nach Kant können wir aber jetzt nicht von allen anderen erwarten, dass sie das auch sofort kapieren. Kant meint, dass der Mensch seine Fesseln sogar sucht und braucht, weil er nie lernen konnte ohne sie zu leben. "Wer sie auch abwürfe, würde dennoch auch über den schmalesten Graben einen nur unsicheren Sprung tun, weil er zu dergleichen freier Bewegung nicht gewöhnt ist." Deswegen sind Vorwürfe an die, die ihre fesseln noch suchen (auch wenn dieses verhalten teil der selbstverschuldeten unmündigkeit ist) eher kontraproduktiv.
ich finde das irre spannend, wie aktuell kant noch ist ;) ist in jedem fall lohnend, sich diesen text in bezug auf fs mal genauer anzusehen.

Ich meine, dass dies sogar der Grund dafür ist, dass viele, die sich vom Joch der Unmündigkeit zu befreien suchen, die Gemeinschaft Gleichgesinnter suchen, um bei der Ausübung der Freiheit Unterstützung und Korrektur zu erfahren.

Die Erfahrungen sind schon etwas älter. Im Buch Exodus (2.Mose) findet sich die Szene in der die befreiten Israeliten murren und sich nach den "Fleischtöpfen Ägyptens" (Sicherheit der Slavenalimentation) zurücksehnen. Auch opfern sie ihr Vermögen, um ein "goldenes Kalb" als Götzenbild zu fertigen..
In Bezug auf das Thema "Freiheit - Unfreiheit" ist Exodus sicherlich ein sehr ergiebiger Text, wenn man berücksichtigt, dass dort Erfahrungen in Form von Geschichten tradiert werden und nicht Erkenntnisse in Form eines abstrakten philosophischen Textes.

Das war mir auch neu, aber in besagter Quelle wird das behauptet, und sie machte einen seriösen Eindruck auf mich.
Aber genau das macht doch eine _wirklich_ erfolgreiche Werbung aus: Dass man sie gar nicht mehr als solche wahrnimmt, sondern sie sich nahtlos in die Kultur einfügt.
Und das ist nicht auf Worte beschränkt. Ein visuelles Beispiel für extrem erfolgreiche Werbung ist unser Bild vom Weihnachtsmann als alten Herren mit langem Bart und rotem Mantel. Dieses Bild wurde ursprünglich von Coca-Cola propagiert, heute nimmt es jeder als selbstverständlich hin.
Ein weiteres Beispiel ist das Verb "googlen", auch wenn das ein wenig "zu" erfolgreich geworden ist, sodass es rechtliche Nachteile für Google bringen könnte. [1]
Leider gibt es kein Patentrezept dafür. Aber genau diese Phänomene sollten "wir" (nicht nur die FSFE) uns zum Vorbild nehmen. Natürlich nicht für kommerzielle Werbung, sondern für politische Kampagnen.
Vorallem ist eine Botschaft, bei der keiner mehr weiß, von wem sie ursprünglich stammt, kein Misserfolg sondern ein riesengroßer _Erfolg_.
Es gab und gibt natürlich zahlreiche Versuche, Worte und Phrasen zu ertablieren, aber selbst das erfolgsversprechende Wort "Zensursula" hat es nicht weit außerhalb der sowieso schon politisch Aktiven geschafft. Der beste Kandidat für eine wirklich weite Verbreitung ist das Verb "guttenbergen".
Es würde mich interessieren, ob derartiges im Bereich der Freien Software / FSFE auch gelungen ist. Mir fällt gerade nichts ein, aber das könnte auch daran liegen, dass es einfach zu erfolgreich war. :-)
Von daher: Gab es bisher irgendein Wort, einen Slogan oder ein Bild aus dem Bereich der Freien Software, das diese Art von durchschlagenden Erfolg erreichte?

Finde ich lustig, dass Du auch eine Verbindung zwischen freier/unfreier Software und Kants Text gefunden hast :-) Ich muss auch immer an diesen Text denken, und zwar bei Apple-Kunden. Dieser Satz trifft es besonders schön:
"Ich habe nicht nötig zu denken, wenn ich nur bezahlen kann; andere werden das verdrießliche Geschäft schon für mich übernehmen."
Apple schreibt den Leuten ganz genau vor, wie sie ihren Computer zu nutzen haben -- und sie sind begeistert! Sie zahen extra viel für dieses "Privileg"...
