Hello mailing list,
I have finally moved to my house and therefore I start to have spare time again. After two years...
As a small introduction, I work at Smals which is a company providing IT services to the "ONSS" and other federal level services.
Are there any other Smals member down here ?

Sure, I work at RVP/ONP for Smals.

Hello, I never worked for Smals, but I happen to have some friends that worked there (fi Geert Allegaert) and some clients that work for Smals. Kind regards, Ywein

Oh great. I'm currently trying to figure out what I could do to help "the cause" here at Smals. But before doing anything, I check that there's no current effort at the moment. So, my question is : is there any effort at Smals to promote free software ?
To my knowledge, there are a few things going on : migration to OpenOffice, usage of many OSS components (but no free one, how strange !) and the "research" dep. is currently having a thorugh look at free software.
Anything I am missing ?

this is an interesting question.

where ?

maybe it would be interesting for you to inquire more about these points and actions already taken, and maybe also go on with establishing links with http://opengov.be/ a Belgium initiative related to free software in public administrations (if I am right, many clients of Smals are public adminsitrations)

A centralized effort? Not that I know of, but, apart from my Smals collegues here at RVPONP I don't know that much people from Smals really.
The only Smals employee that I know is actively involved in open standards, is Peter Vandenabeele. He works for FEDICT via Smals, if I am correct.

Don't know about these. Where is this happening?
