- FSFE-meeting in Helsinki 2011-06-01: two attendees, me and Timo Lindfors, who afterwards sent me e-mail asking how to get SVN access in order to help Timo with translations. Further FSFE-meetings in Helsinki area need better organizing to attract more people.
- I replied as private person to a request for comments about a public sector standards collection at http://www.jhs-suositukset.fi/web/guest/jhs, promoted HTML/CSS/ECMAScript so that browser based apps would be cross-platform and not Flash/AIR/Silverlight or similar proprietary stuff.
- the new government's strategy program mentions open data, open standards and open source: http://www.valtioneuvosto.fi/tiedostot/julkinen/hallitusneuvottelut-2011/neu..., page 50:
avoin tieto: "Julkisin varoin tuotettuja tietovarantoja avataan kansalaisten ja yritysten käyttöön. Tavoitteena on julkisen sektorin hallinnoimien digitaalisten tietoaineistojen saattaminen helposti uudelleenkäytettävässä muodossa tietoverkkojen kautta kansalaisten, yritysten ja yhteisöjen, viranomaisten, tutkimuksen ja koulutuksen hyödynnettäväksi."
keskitetty valtion it-ohjaus: "Julkisten sähköisten palvelujen kehittäminen annetaan yhden vahvat valtuudet omaavan tahon johdettavaksi. Asetetaan selkeitä tavoitteita tuottavuuden parantamiseksi. Varmistetaan julkisten tietojärjestelmien yhteentoimivuus käyttämällä avoimia rajapintoja ja standardeja. Avoimeen lähdekoodiin perustuvien ratkaisujen käyttöönottoa edistetään julkisen hallinnon kokonaisarkkitehtuurin puitteissa ja kustannushyötyanalyysin pohjalta."
Via google translate and some manual fixing of the gravest errors =>
open data: "publicly funded data resources will be opened for citizens and enterprises. The aim is to make public sector digital data available in a reusable for online for citizens, businesses and communities, authorities, research and education for use."
centralized public sector IT management "Public e-services development will be delegated to one strong entity to run. Set clear goals to improve productivity. Ensure public information systems interoperability using open interfaces and standards. Promote open source-based solutions and within the public administration enterprise architecture framework and based on cost-benefit analysis."
- FOSS and LIbreOffice initiatives ongoing in Helsinki, Tampere, Turku an Paimio city councils. I helped write the initiative in Tampere with a local city council member. All of the initiatives are btw made by Green politicans, I'll try to activate other parties too.
- Visited FSFE Berlin office in August during the Desktop Summit, wrote strategy about increasing support and income (The Funnel -paper), helped implement it by coding some minor stuff, like parts of the mailing list stats script.
- Attended the OpenMind conference in Tampere on 2011-09-28, talked with a guy from Alt Linux Team (Russia) about co-operation with FSFE and changed business cards.
- I attended every second month the COSS board meeting as FSFE representative
- I attended a meeting on 2011-10-13 for a new business initiative for FOSS in the Tampere area called VALOMO (site in Finnish: http://www.valomo.fi/). The group is very well connected and includes the former Tampere city chief IT officer.
- I helped several Finnish FOSS-projects with press releases, like http://linux.fi/wiki/Lehdist%C3%B6tiedote_2011, http://www.l-a.fi/Lehdist%C3%B6tiedote_elokuu_2011 (sorry, in Finnish too)
There are many things brewing, but more about them later...
