Tiedoksi, Microsoft teettänyt uuden "tutkimuksen" Linuxin kustannuksista. FSFE varmaankin julkaisee myöhemmin analyysin siitä. Toki nyt heti on jo tiedossa, että tutkimuksesta puuttuu varsinaiset laskelmat (joten lukuja on mahdotonta kritisoida) ja vertailukohtana on ollut migraatio Windows XPeen ja Office 2003:een, joka varmasti ei olisi jäännyt ainoaksi kustannukseksi kun miettii kokonaiskustannuksia tästä eteenpäin.

heise.de reports that Microsoft has paid HP to prepare a study on Munich's LiMux project. The study claims that the migration costs EUR 60.7 million over ten years:

On the other hand, in November 2012, the LiMux project informed Munich's city council that the migration was saving the city EUR 10 million.

The latter article has lots of figures. The article on Microsoft's study reports only that Microsoft won't say how the study arrives at that figure. The article further says that Microsoft wants to use the study as "a sound line of argument with customers".
In other words, it's marketing. But we should still find some way to deflate it, e.g. by somehow getting them to refuse making the study public, and publicising that refusal.
