le logiciel libre est partout mais les utilisateurs ne sont pas (encore) libérés.
La mission des FSF, Lociel libre, société libre, prend tous son sens et elle n’est pas terminée, après ving cinq ans pour la FSF et treize ans pour la FSFE. Mais c’est normal vu l’immensité de l’objectif qu’on s’est donné !

Sans être particulièrement bien informé sur le sujet, il me semble qu'entre la démocratie athénienne et celles qui se sont mises en place ces derniers siècles, il y eut une longue éclipse, plus ou moins totale. Les sociétés qui ont précédé la démocratie athénienne ont par ailleurs pu être plus ou moins démocrate et si l'on remonte aux sociétés de chasseurs-cueilleurs ont peut imaginer que certaines voire la plupart le furent.
Dans l'histoire des logiciels, il me semble également qu'une forme de proto-liberté a d'abord dominé, du côté scientifique et académique. À mesure que le logiciel s'est préoccupé d'économie (et inversement) et que son utilisation s'est élargie, la fermeture s'est opérée.
Il pourrait dès lors être éclairant d'observer comment des sociétés qui ont longtemps accepté de ne pouvoir se prendre en main (parfois par commodité) ont pu se démocratiser pour s'en inspirer et changer les consciences. Comment aussi elles ont pu perdre le pouvoir sur elles-mêmes.

Non. La « démocratie » a survécu un peu partout dans les cités libres, les communes villageoises et un peu partout sur le globe. Je te conseille « L’Entr’aide, un facteur d’évolution » de Kropoktine, qui fout beaucoup de choses dans le même tas, mais parle assez longuement de la pré-existence quasiment par défaut d’un système décisionnel démocratique chez à peu prêt n’importe quel groupe humain à travers l’histoire. Et même aujourd’hui quand on est plus proches d’une aristocratie qu’une vraie démocratie directe (participative) ou représentative (par représentant statistique donc tiré au sort), ça subsiste, comme à Christinia, et d’autres endroits.

De proto-liberté d’apparence. La même qu’on a pu rencontrer dans les premières sociétés matriarcales : si toute la société ne l’est pas, et sans *avoir conscience* des problématiques, souvent elle est libre en apparence par ignorance et inconscience. En se rapportant à la critique de Simone de Beauvoir des sociétés matriarcales primitives, en fait le stade de liberté n’est alors pas pleinement atteint, mais semble préexister, et ce n’est qu’après sa perte et la lutte pour la récupérer qu’elle existe réellement.

Pour ma part je pense que nous, militants pour le logiciel libre, nous nous sommes trop concentré sur le grand public pensant que vu que la masse se trouvait la, si on convertissait la masse, le monde changerait.
Cela a été et reste une grande erreur. Ce genre de stratégie de fonctionne que pour les acteurs du logiciel non-libre tels qu'Apple, Microsoft, Google, etc. car ils savent retirer d'une telle stratégie les bénéfices suffisant pour financer la R&D des versions dédiée aux entreprises. Ainsi ils captent à la fois le marché grand public (qui veut du gratuit) et le marché professionnel (qui veut du qui marche) ce qui ne laisse plus beaucoup de place au logiciel libre.
Si nous souhaitons voir des logiciels libres ayant une expérience utilisateur plus large que celle réservée aux nerds (comprendre nos supers softs s'exécutant dans un terminal) et développés par des bénévoles qui ont du temps, il nous faut investir le secteur du logiciel professionnel. Et surtout des logiciels qui seront utilisé par des non-informaticiens.
Et plus cela va, plus cela devient urgent car les entreprises produisant des logiciels non-libres « à base d'open source » ont de plus en plus de succès et étouffent sur le marché celles qui font du vrai libre.
Je suis convaincu qu'il nous faut travailler sur 3 axes en même temps :
1. (ré)Expliquer aux développeurs l'importance du Copyleft (qu'il soit standard ou fort, peu importe), trop produisent du code sous licence dite permissive ce qui crée de la valeur pour les acteurs du logiciel non libre à base d'open source. 2. Donner des clés supplémentaires aux entreprises utilisatrices pour leur choix de logiciels. Il faut faire entrer des critères liés aux effets des libertés accordées par les licences libres. En clair, il ne faut surtout plus dire « utilisez du libre, le proprio cémaléçapu ! » mais plus « vous devriez prendre en compte les gains de compétitivité qu'un investissement dans un logiciel sous licence libre apportera à votre entreprise » et « il est de votre responsabilité de financer la R&D des logiciels libres critiques à votre entreprise, la communauté c'est vous, pas les autres ». 3. Soutenir les entreprises/acteurs qui font du *vrai* logiciel libre et qui ont des modèles d'affaires compatibles avec les valeurs du logiciel libre. Seul leur succès fera qu'elle investirons de nouveaux marchés, et par leur réussite, entraîneront vers le bon chemin ceux qui se fourvoient tout en donnant envie à d'autres de se lancer.

Il nous faut donc assez urgemment nous pencher sur l'offre logicielle professionnelle et faire en sorte que le Libre y gagne. Il est possible aujourd'hui de faire fonctionner une petite entreprise avec 100% de logiciels libres, c'est plus compliqué pour les plus grandes (même si c'est possible).
Il ne faut surtout pas dénoncer ceux qui font du freemium ou de l'open-core même si c'est plus facile. Nous devons au contraire positiver les actions et les acteurs allant dans la bonne direction (même si cet acteur est Microsoft ou Google) tout en expliquant que ceux qui se revendiquent de l'open source mais qui ne livrent à leurs clients que des logiciels sous une licence non-libres et non open source ne sont pas dans notre communauté.
Gagner plus de part de marché dans les entreprises signifie :
* amélioration du portefeuille des logiciels libres existant (nous devons nous battre contre le syndrome « not invented here ») ; * investissement humain et financier par les entreprises utilisatrices (si on leur explique pourquoi/comment) ; * exploration de nouveaux marché par les acteurs du logiciel libre en place ou par l'arrivée de nouveaux acteurs ; * assèchement des bénéfices des entreprises faisant du logiciel non-libre par l’accroissement de celles qui font du vrai libre.

Le marché professionnel de l’informatique reste un marché, donc dans lequel chacun ne peut avoir pour but que la maximisation du profit, et non pas la liberté, la souveraineté, la confiance, où quoi que ce soit de bon pour le logiciel libre. Le seul moyen serait à la limite de demander aux entreprises de participer à développer leurs propres logiciels, et ça ça se fait déjà.

Je connais bien des nerds qui se foutent allègrement de ce qu’est un terminal et des gens à l’opposé du concept de nerd qui le manipulent très bien.

GNOME3 me semble pourtant pleinement convenir à ta description, et pourtant il est développé par des bénévoles et utilisé par des gens assez newbies pour ne pas vomir devant les affreuses limitations qu’il impose.

Oui mais ça c’est normal, c’est leur but de faire du profit, rien que du profit, toujours plus de profit, juste pour faire du profit et ne pas mourir.

Ça ne veut pas dire développer du logiciel professionnel ça, ni le faire commercialement. Après ils sont bien peu ceux qui le font par incompréhension, désinformation ou inconscience, la plupart le font dans leur intérêt économique et politique direct : Google, Apple, etc. Et donc ils continueront.

S’il s’agit de motiver les entreprises à utiliser du logiciel libre en le développant soi-même alors oui, mais c’est évident et on le fait déjà.

Concernant la compatibilité entre d’un côté une entreprise à but lucratif et de l’autre la production de logiciel libre, il suffit de regarder autour de nous pour voir qu’il existe des exemples qui démontrent qu’il n’est pas incompatible de faire des profits d’un côté et d’être réellement une entreprise de logiciels libres de l’autre.

Le profit n’est pas forcément *la* raison d’être d’une entreprise. Il peut exister des entreprises dont la raison d’être est clairement de participer à la mission du mouvement du logicel libre qui est de libérer les utilisateurs.
D’ailleurs il y a une pluralité forte de types d’entreprises, en taille mais aussi en forme avec des variantes importantes (par exemple une entreprise où les actions s’échangent sur la place publique en bourse est bien différente d’une entreprise individuelle). Tout mettre dans le même sac simplement parce qu’elles partagent la caractéristique d’être à but lucratif n’est pas très subtil à mon avis.
Mais je préfèrerais qu’on reste sur le sujet du logiciel libre plutôt que de dériver sur des discussions très annexes…

Canonical, RedHat… autant d’exemples qui peuvent être en partie utiles mais qui finissent par mal tourner et ne promouvoir du libre que dans la mesure où ça se voit et ça compte pour le plus grand nombre d’utilisateurs, que ce soit bon ou non. Au pire on a bien des associations à but lucratif ou non lucratif avec des salariés qui peuvent durer sur le temps hein.
Ou des entreprises à but lucratif qui peuvent œuvrer dans ce sens *au début*, et continuer par la suite *un peu*.

Par exemple, il existe des cabinets d’avocat à but lucratif, ça ne veut pas dire que c’est la raison d’être d’un cabinet d’avocat, qui typiquement peut être la défense des droits et libertés.
Je prends volontairement un exemple éloigné d’une grosse entreprise en bourse typique, pour te montrer que vouloir réduire leur dimension au fait qu’ils sont à but lucratif n’est pas forcément la meilleur analyse à avoir, en tout cas pas si l’analyse qui nous concerne se porte sur la mission du logiciel libre.
(Et je dis ça en tant qu’élève-avocat qui a justement envie de pouvoir vivre de ça au maximum, c’est-à-dire de la défense des droits et libertés des développeurs et utilisateurs de logiciels)
L’argent peut aussi être un moteur efficace, surtout dans le type d’économie dans lequel on opère, ce serait bête de ne pas l’utiliser à mon avis (par exemple pour lutter contre les brevets néfastes au logiciel libre : http://openinventionnetwork.com/ )
Salut, quelques réflexions en vrac:
* il me semble qu'un point important n'apparaît pas là-dedans. On parle d'entreprises (au sens large), d'utilisateurs etc mais pour moi ce sont les cibles finales en fait. Je m'explique: dans les institutions, entreprises etc, ceux qui font les choix ou du moins conseillent les choix d'utilisation de telle ou telle technologie, ou ceux qui les utilisent sont bien des Hommes qui ont suivit une certaine formation. Or il se trouve que dans la plupart des formations les logiciels/technologies utilisés sont déjà propriétaires... La quasi totalité des graphistes avec lesquels j'ai travaillé ont tous été formés sur illustrator/photoshop/QuarkXpress etc. Les stagiaires développeurs que je reçois utilisent tous windows à l'école ainsi que les ide relatifs. Peut-être serait-il temps de cibler les organismes de formation/écoles/etc afin de les sensibiliser à cette utilisation. Cela permettrait peut-être d'avoir des gens qui en amont de leurs responsabilités/activités professionnelles seraient déjà dans le bain du libre. * Peut-être aussi que ce qui déroute ces utilisateurs sont les différences d'interfaces. Or dans l'enseignement (bon là je généralise un petit peu quand même) on est plus dans l'acquisition d'automatismes/recettes quant aux interfaces plutôt qu'à l'autonomisation des utilisateurs. Du coups, quand ils doivent changer cela "prend du temps" donc baisse de productivité donc moins compatible avec le travail... * Pour en revenir à l'enseignement, on parle de plus en plus, et ce au niveau international, d'intégrer l'initiation au code dans les apprentissages fondamentaux, ceci permettra peut-être aux générations futures d'être plus familières avec la logique numérique et les problématiques de liberté/ouverture du code. Les générations actuelles ne sont, à mon sens, qu'en transition vers un tout numérique déjà bien commencé et pour ceux qui ont déjà des habitudes, en changer peut être compliqué.
(A mon sens tout ceci rejoint aussi le débat actuel sur l'utilisation des outils cryptographiques/d'anonymisation, des interfaces compliquées, de la soit-disante suffisance des "tecos" dans leur tour d'ivoire ainsi que de la soit-disante paresse/stupidité des "simples" utilisateurs) Alex

Tu pointes un problème économique réel. D’ailleurs, qu’est-ce qui fait une entreprise de logiciel libre concrètement ?

Il est vrai d’ailleurs qu’il arrive souvent de trouver des entreprises qui produisent du logiciel libre mais dont le modèle de revenus se concentre sur la vente de licences propriétaires d’une version améliorée.
C’est vrai y compris dans des secteurs professionnels clés comme le secteur des logiciels de gestions de group («groupware»). Combien de fois je vois cité Zimbra, alors que l’entreprise semble tirer ses revenus principalement de logiciel non libre (je peux me tromper cela dit, si quelqu’un a étudié de plus près ce cas). Dans le même temps il y a des alternatives libres comme MyKolab notamment soutenue par http://kolabsys.com/ qui contribue aussi à Roundcube, lui aussi libre (AGPLv3). (Le fondateur de KolabSys est aussi un fondateur de la FSFE).
Ils ont aussi un service grand public : https://mykolab.com qui repose entièrement sur du libre.
Je suis convaincu qu'il nous faut travailler sur 3 axes en même temps :
- (ré)Expliquer aux développeurs l'importance du Copyleft (qu'il soit standard ou fort, peu importe), trop produisent du code sous licence dite permissive ce qui crée de la valeur pour les acteurs du logiciel non libre à base d'open source.
Le copyleft est clairement un outil stratégique. Mais comme son nom l’indique, il dépend clairement de la stratégie donnée qui peut varier considérablement selon le secteur économique, concurrentiel etc. (Je pense par exemple à VLC qui a changé certains composants importants vers la LGPL plutôt que la GPL).
- Soutenir les entreprises/acteurs qui font du *vrai* logiciel libre et qui ont des modèles d'affaires compatibles avec les valeurs du logiciel libre. Seul leur succès fera qu'elle investirons de nouveaux marchés, et par leur réussite, entraîneront vers le bon chemin ceux qui se fourvoient tout en donnant envie à d'autres de se lancer.

Il nous faut donc assez urgemment nous pencher sur l'offre logicielle professionnelle et faire en sorte que le Libre y gagne. Il est possible aujourd'hui de faire fonctionner une petite entreprise avec 100% de logiciels libres, c'est plus compliqué pour les plus grandes (même si c'est possible).
Il ne faut surtout pas dénoncer ceux qui font du freemium ou de l'open-core même si c'est plus facile. Nous devons au contraire positiver les actions et les acteurs allant dans la bonne direction (même si cet acteur est Microsoft ou Google) tout en expliquant que ceux qui se revendiquent de l'open source mais qui ne livrent à leurs clients que des logiciels sous une licence non-libres et non open source ne sont pas dans notre communauté.
Gagner plus de part de marché dans les entreprises signifie :
- amélioration du portefeuille des logiciels libres existant (nous devons nous battre contre le syndrome « not invented here ») ;
- investissement humain et financier par les entreprises utilisatrices (si on leur explique pourquoi/comment) ;
- exploration de nouveaux marché par les acteurs du logiciel libre en place ou par l'arrivée de nouveaux acteurs ;
- assèchement des bénéfices des entreprises faisant du logiciel non-libre par l’accroissement de celles qui font du vrai libre.
Oui, je suis d’accord que ce sont des pistes qu’il faut regarder. Mais que faire concrètement du côté de la FSFE, des volontaires à Paris, Berlin, Milan, etc. pour permettre cela ?

Il prend le sujet du mauvais point de vue. Bon bien sûr on a le « échoué » rageant qui ne doit probablement servir à rapporter plus de lecteurs : le concept d’échec et de réussite nécessite une fin dans le temps, or donner une limite dans le temps, une fin définie à n’importe quelle lutte pour le progrès est juste absurde et contre-productif. On n’a pas d’échec, on échoue ou réussit de façon ancrée dans un présent qui change continuellement, pour l’instant, dans le contexte social actuel, je trouve qu’on est plutôt en train de réussir.

Seulement, le constat est simple: les nouvelles technologies sont en constante évolution, leurs usages également. Et à travers ces nouveaux usages, nous n'utilisons plus grand chose d'ouvert. Si tant est que l'on utilise une technologie ouverte, c'est bien souvent pour utiliser au final ou au passage une technologie fermée.
Voyons l’évolution : ce qui existait avant et qui nécessitait du privateur n’en nécessite plus, jamais aucun recul, malgré Secure boot, on trouve *toujours* des moyens de faire filtrer le logiciel libre. Oh, plus même : on trouve les moyens de faire bannir le privateur.
Quand l’Allemagne, l’Italie ou la France prévoit de passer en urgence à GNU/Linux, c’est pas rien, c’est énorme. Le suicide de Microsoft y est pour quelque chose… mais c’est un peu de nous que ça vient, la plupart de ses causes sont notre œuvre ou font partie de nos dénonciations…
Parce que franchement, alors qu’un changement dans la hiérarchie opère avec le départ du PDG, arrêter le support d’XP qui reste la majorité de ce qui est massivement utilisé dans les administrations et qui sans protection se vérole en quelques secondes, tout en proposant Windows 8, qui boulverse les habitudes plus qu’un passage à GNU/Linux — salutaire et urgent par bien des aspects : prix, souveraineté, confiance, stabilité, éthique —, et nécessite un prix exorbitant, impossible à payer du fait de la crise ajouté au nombre de postes à mettre à jour, le tout alors que GNU/Linux fait un bond énorme, que la propagande se diffuse partout dans le monde *et tout ça en plein dans les révélations de Snowden*. Désolé, j’appelle ça un suicide en règles.
Et on se rend bien compte que tous ces soucis sont propres au logiciel privateur, et que le reste est œuvre de nos luttes (même Snowden était déjà un libriste convaincu, ce qui lui a permis de faire ses révélations sans se faire repérer tout de suite).
Dans ce contexte, les administrations commencent à bannir le passage à Windows 8, à se rendre compte qu’elles perdent leur souveraineté, que nombre de fonctionnalités sont inacceptables…
Or pourquoi tout le monde utilise-t-iel du logiciel privateur comme Windows si ce n’est parce qu’on ne les a *jamais* sensibilisé au sujet ? si ce n’est parce que *partout* on leur propose du logiciel privateur comme l’option « normale » ou « par défaut » ?
Dans le cadre du changement de ce contexte, pour justifier un tel changement, il faudra des arguments pour faire passer la pilule, peut-on seulement imaginer qu’oublier l’éthique du logiciel libre, sa philosophie, soit possible à sauter du fait que c’est la raison même pour laquelle il rend la souveraineté à maints gouvernements ? À ce niveau, comment une introduction massive est-elle évitable ?
Alors que nombre de gouvernements tentent de réduire les libertés des populations, d’abolir une ènième fois consécutive la présomption d’innocence, de surveiller et tout fliquer, alors que tous les droits sont menacés, que de plus en plus de mouvements se réunissent pour lutter ensemble, que ces peuples sont obligés de se soulever et d’agir régulièrement de façon aussi massive que cela l’a été pour ACTA… *comment* peut-on ignorer la problématique du logiciel libre ?
C’est très simple : on ne peut pas, celle-ci se diffuse inévitablement et ne peut qu’atteindre tous, à terme.
L'exemple le plus frappant est sans doute celui du smartphone. Il serait injuste de dire que le libre y est absent.
Pour les “smartphones” (je préfère “mouchard de poche” ou “microminitel portable”) on a rien raté du tout : FirefoxOS, Replicant, et même CyanogenMod pour le reste… Replaçons tout ça dans le contexte : pas envie d’avoir son micro surveillé en permanence ? Le bon téléphone (avec la mémoire et le micro pas reliée au modem via DMA), le bon OS libre (Replicant à tous hasards), et c’est littéralement impossible, même Merkel n’aurait pas pu être surveillée ainsi… Et n’importe quel individu lambda peut y avoir accès.
Ainsi même s’ils ont une base libre et le reste privateur, on peut le changer, et on l’a fait, maintes et maintes fois.
Quand aux dépôts fermés on utilise ça dans n’importe quelle distribution GNU/Linux par sécurité, et c’est acceptable par le fait que n’importe qui peut packager n’importe quoi, qu’on peut installer autre chose si on veut quand même et qu’au final on sait ce qui est inclut ou pas et pourquoi, le tout de façon démocratique. F-Droid suit ce modèle d’ailleurs, c’est pleinement libre.
C'est peut être le plus gros échec du logiciel libre. A trop vouloir défendre ses principes, le logiciel libre n'est-il pas passé à coté des combats majeurs d'aujourd'hui, à savoir, les services en ligne et le traitement des données personnelles ? Il est impressionnant de constater à quel point les gens n'utilisent aujourd'hui plus qu'un navigateur web. Tous leurs services sont accessibles sur Internet, à travers ce concept flou qu'ils appellent "Cloud" . Le logiciel libre, sensé redonner le contrôle de l'outil informatique aux utilisateurs, n'est plus d'aucun secours dans ce paradigme la.
Entamer une réflexion plus profonde sur ses combats. Le libre a raté le virage de la mobilité, des applications web et du Cloud.
Et là on attaque le gros morceau ! plusieurs couches à la machine « amie » comme la définit la Quadrature du Net : le matériel (qui n’est toujours pas complètement libre, mais on s’en approche avec le Novena par exemple, sans parler des imprimantes 3D, et de l’impression à matériaux multiples incluant plastique, bois, verre, céramique, et même matière organique et semi-conducteurs !), le logiciel (qui peut l’être pleinement partout aujourd’hui), le réseau.
Or s’il s’agit de copier une fois de plus le logiciel privateur comme on l’a fait avec MS Office et LibreOffice, on copie le mal par le mal, on crée un logiciel libre qui, dans l’optique du concept de logiciel libérateur de Benjamin Bayart, ne libère point du tout. S’il s’agit de copier ce qu’ils font, on ne va qu’attaquer la liberté pareillement.
Or, contrairement à ce qu’il dit, le logiciel libre, loin de n’être d’aucun secours, est *l’unique remède* à ce problème-ci. En effet un réseau qui n’est pas dirigé par des logiciels libres n’est en aucun cas de confiance, on rappellera alors que chaque standard, chaque réussite d’Internet (le mail, le web, bittorrent, jabber, etc.) s’est faite *par* le logiciel libre. Comme le dit Benjamin Bayart « Sans logiciel libre, pas d’Internet, sans Internet, pas de logiciel libre », les deux sont les deux facettes d’un même objet. Or ce qui attaque nos libertés aujourd’hui n’est pas Internet dans son fonctionnement normal mais le Minitel 2.0 qui le logiciel libre se doit de combattre au même titre que le logiciel privateur, ce que rms se limite à dénoncer comme SaaSS, comme quelque chose de subsidiaire alors que c’est *fondamental*.
La solution est pourtant simple et *seul le logiciel libre* peut l’offrir : un réseau libre, décentralisé, et basé sur la cryptographie pour offrir intégrité, authentification, confidentialité, deniabilité et sécurité. Le programme est simple et il s’exécute déjà librement de lui-même : à très court terme se déroule depuis assez longtemps une incitation à se localiser chez les petits fournisseurs libristes et à but non lucratifs qui se sont développés, aujourd’hui on commence à inciter à s’auto-héberger et se fédérer soi-même en gardant les protocoles largement répandus, ouverts et standards (SMTP, XMPP, SIP, etc.) avec des alternatives simples et faciles d’utilisations comme FreedomBox, ArkOS ou YUNO Host (plusfacileàutiliserqueWindows8®), et à long terme, le déploiement d’une large, scalable, libre, grand, puissant, décentralisé (P2P) et sécurisée alternative à Internet. On a eu Tor, Freenet, I2P, et on a GNUnet. Le concept de réseau local sans rien de global, avec de la cryptographie obligatoire au plus bas niveau et juste au dessus un réseau social libre, décentralisé et respectueux de la vie privée sur lequel se base toute communication asynchrone ou synchrone s’intégrant parfaitement avec le réseau applicatif cryptographique… n’est possible *que* avec du logiciel libre et des réseaux décentralisés.
Comment partager du contenu et socialnetworker même quand on a pas Internet sans réseau local et décentralisé ? Comment fabriquer son propre internet et étendre l’Internet existant ? Comment avoir une parfaite intégration allant plus loin que la banale impotence du navigateur web ? Comment baser intégrer et simplifer parfaitement tous les usages de réseaux informatiques ? Comment les sécuriser et les rendre de confiance ? Comment unifier toutes les communications asynchrones ? Comment faire tout ça autrement que via l’ouverture et la liberté ?
Et je ne parle même pas du développement fulgurant, presque exponentiel des FAI libristes, neutres et associatifs (8 nouveaux FAI par an en moyenne) en France comme à travers le monde…
Et l’économie de partage, le carpooling, le troc, le couchsurfing, ne parlons même pas des avantages que ça aurait à être librement automatisé par du logiciel libre, protégé par cryptographie, et construit de façon P2P avec du partage discrétionnaire (à la bittorrent) et des DHT… Je veux juste pas imaginer à quel point ça pourrait devenir une arme de construction massive, spécialement dans les pays les moins libres : l’intérêt de faire du carpooling, du troc et du couchsurfing de façon anonyme, incensurable et inarrêtable, en libre, sécurisé, décentralisé, quel que soit l’endroit sur le globe, tant que les communications hertziennes (électromagnétiques en fait, ça inclut n’importe quoi passant par un photon, y compris la lumière visible) ou sonores, ou la pose de câbles aériens, souterrains ou muraux est possible ? Hum… voyons-voir…
Bref, un monde plus simple, confiant, libre, indépendant, autonome, résilient… ça ne marchera jamais par la voie centralisée, privatrice et commerciale :) Et un monde qui n’est pas tout ça ne marchera pas non plus :p
A ce sentiment la vient s'ajouter un autre constat sans appel : le grand public se moque éperdument qu'un logiciel soit libre. Au mieux il verra la gratuité (oui, les logiciels libres sont gratuits, dans l'esprit du grand public.
Donc là encore une ènième personne qui dit que « moi ça m’intéresse mais tu vois les autres zignorants stupides là ils s’en foutent », alors que non. Chacun a toujours n’importe quoi en lequel il croit, ne serait-ce qu’une once de volonté. Et d’une simple once de volonté ne peut que florir l’envie de liberté. Chacun a au moins une lutte dans le but d’améliorer quoi que ce soit, et chaque lutte ayant son importance, sa place, toutes les luttes pour la liberté sont liées. C’est pas pour rien si on rencontre un discours similaire chez les libristes, les pirates, les féministes (surtout du coté de l’intersectionnalisme), les anars, les écologistes, etc. c’est pas pour rien si beaucoup, si ce n’est tous d’entre-eux, sont à fond dans le logiciel libre dès qu’ils en prennent connaissance. Et ce ne sont pas les diverses luttes contre la liberté qui risquent de s’essouffler à l’avenir : à mesure que le temps passe, que les crises s’amoncellent, les révoltes et luttes se reconstruisent et s’amplifient. Suffit de voir les printemps arabes, les mouvements comme 99% ou Occupy, et le fait que parmi tous les combats auquel tout ça s’associe (partage, égalitarisme, etc.) on y met tout aussi bien le logiciel libre. Le logiciel libre n’a *pas* échoué philosophiquement, *loin de là*.
Est-ce parce qu'ils ne sont pas sensibilisés aux sujets ? La question peut se poser. Pourtant de nombreux mouvements tentent de sensibiliser à ces questions. Seulement, les gens se sentent-ils concernés ? Ils devraient, l'enjeux est important. Ont-ils le bagage technique pour se sentir concernés ? La réponses est très clairement non. Et c'est bien pour ça que les gens s'en foutent. Parce qu'ils ont autre chose à faire. Toutes ces histoires, ça intéresses les geeks, pas Monsieur Lambda.
La question de la sensibilisation est importante. Mais il est aussi important que nous avons chacun des idées pour des raisons différentes, nous avons chacun eu des vies et expériences différentes, des combats qui nous tiennent plus à cœur, et il y a toujours un petit point à toucher qui nous fait *prendre conscience* de l’importance d’un combat, de son lien avec tous les autres. Ne pas se sentir concerné par sa propre liberté, c’est nier sa propre volonté et par la même occasion sa propre existence.
Et il n’est là point question de bagage technique mais philosophique, éthique, social, politique, intellectuel. Et ça c’est bien différent, parce que tôt où tard on est directement concerné. Personne n’a-t-il jamais été concerné à un quelconque problème politique, social, philosophique, éthique, économique ou financier ? Personne n’a-t-il jamais critiqué les inégalités ou les atteintes aux libertés ? Personne ne s’est-il jamais senti concerné par le sexisme (aller, bon, plus de la moitié de la population dans l’imaginaire collectif ça reste une minorité), le racisme (juste tous les pays non-occidentaux tiens, oh, et même là quelques-uns), l’écologie (tous), l’agisme (100% des humains pendant une partie de leur vie), la pauvreté (les 99%, surtout quand on peut pas accéder aux ressources qu’on produit *systématiquement* en excès), les inégalités (tout ceux qui sont pas au sommet, imaginaire), l’autorité (tous, surtout quand celle-ci peut se manifester de façon circulaire) ? non rien ? Il y a toujours une accroche, au fond. Et on ne peut se désintéresser de tout sauf un nihilisme complet à en être morbide.
Ne serait-ce que posséder le contrôle des machines ayant une influence sur l’humanité considérablement plus grande que l’invention de l’imprimerie ou de l’écriture ne peut pas être une problématique qui peut être sciemment ignorée.
Pour être franc, je ne pense pas que la situation soit réversible.
Je trouve ça drôle, comme si l’Humanité était un mûr de pierre où on inscrivait des trucs immuables. Et les discours parlant d’irréversibilités ne se sont jamais très bien finis, et à force de parler d’impossibilité de réversibilité, ont toujours finis par se retourner contre eux, au final :)
Je pense malheureusement que, le logiciel libre tend à n’être qu'une base pour composants fermés.

Le tout libre restera à jamais une utopie.
Mais Internet lui-même est une utopie qui fonctionne, *au sens propre*. Et comme le disait un ami libertaire : je préfère mille fois faire le choix de l’utopie plutôt que de la chimère.
Et si on veut parler d’utopie au sens d’irréalisme, je tendrais à rappeler les propos de Zack : « Un monde sans logiciels libres est un monde où nous sommes tous otages des fournisseurs de logiciels privateurs qui dirigeraient nos vies. Pour lutter contre ce scénario-catastrophe, nous avons besoin d’organisations comme la Free Software Fondation Europe » et le mantra « Free software, free society », et en dériver l’idée suivante : « Une société où le numérique est présent partout mais sans logiciel libre est une société totalitaire ».
Maintenant je sais pas pour vous, mais quand je vois ce qui est arrivé aux totalitarismes passés, et vers où fonce celui qui se construit à présent, je trouve largement, mais alors *laaaargement* plus irréaliste de le voir se perpétuer sans s’effondrer sur lui-même que de nous voir réussir :) Après — comme se plaît à le dire Benjamin Bayart avec le même optimisme — la question n’est plus « allons-nous réussir ? » mais « *Quand* allons-nous réussir ? ».
Les usages sont trop ancrés pour qu'un renversement intervienne.
Dit un homme qui vit dans une société aux fondements sexistes depuis plusieurs millénaires… dont une grande partie ont été renversés en une décennie.
Il appartient au public averti de veiller sur le logiciel libre et les standards ouverts, mais le combat philosophique pour le grand public me semble perdu.

Il y a cependant un autre combat crucial à défendre pour tous les utilisateurs: le recueil et le traitement des données personnelles à l'ère de la mobilité, du web des services et du Cloud.
Ce n’est *pas* un « autre » combat. C’est le *même*. Internet et le logiciel libre étant les deux facettes d’un même objet, le logiciel privateur et le minitel 2.0 le sont tout aussi.
J’aimerais prendre l’opportunité de la discussion lancée par cet article pour avoir vos points de vue sur ce que la FSFE peut/doit faire en matière de sensibilisation. Comment faire passer le message, convaincre au-delà des « chambres d’écho » ? Notamment si on pense à des sujets comme les DRM, qui concernent à la fois les développeurs de logiciels libres (à cause de la protection juridique qui leur est conférée) et d’autre part aux utilisateurs directement, qu’ils utilisent du libre ou pas -- le fait est qu’il semble que nos campagnes en la matière ne sont pas suffisantes. Cela fait des années qu’on milite contre ces DRM, et ils sont partout (dernièrement dans le projet d’accord presque final entre le Canada et l’UE - CETA). Pourtant il est facilement démontré que ceux-ci sont une nuisance pour le grand public.
Alors comment faire, pourquoi selon vous n’arrivons-nous pas à faire percer ce sujet au grand public ? Est-ce un manque de moyen, est-ce parce que nous ne poussons pas assez le sujet, ou sous un mauvais angle, ou au mauvais endroit ?
Par exemple, que pensez-vous des chances que nous aurions de réussir à soulever ce débat en faisant passer par un député une proposition de loi garantissant le droit du consommateur à pouvoir jouir des libertés qui sont les siennes qui sont empêchées par les DRM en général ? Par la même occasion, cela pourrait aussi mettre le sujet sur le devant de la scène et donc l’occasion d’en parler au grand public.
