I don't know what font that is. I was looking for it when Matthias was asking for a "Free Software Free Society" laptop sticker, but I didn't find one. Perhaps he knows. However I was able to vectorise this particular font setting. So if you just need this one I could send it to you via email.

Yes, it is really close but this is unimaginable for me, that FSF uses a proprietary font for its design... sure, there must be a free version, too. Did you ask them?

If you don't want to use "Adler", the open font library (http://openfontlibrary.org/) might be worth a look. They have some interesting fonts there. I haven't got the chance to look intensively into it but I think it is definitely worth a try.

They don't really distinguish between free (as in free of charge) and free (as in freedom) fonts. That's a little sad in my opinion. It seems there are quite a few OFLed fonts there. But there also are some just saying "free" without more information.

It's not quite the same as Adler but at least it's a really free font. And it looks good, too. It's just different.

Well,
I asked on the community team mailing list which font they used. First they suggest some fonts that looked quite close. I did some research and found "Adler". Afterwards they claimed GNUTypewriter is the font I was looking for. Which is clearly not it. But it would be great to use GNUTypewriter instead. This font can be found on the resources page of the FSF website. http://www.fsf.org/resources/materials They use it for various materials.
Personally I too don't think that the FSF uses a non-free font for their designs. But the "Free Software Free Society" design I received is either "Adler" or a font that looks exactly the same. Perhaps there was a misinformation about who did the design and where it was from?
