This might be. But "B.V." and other abbreviations are strange as well, but also mentioned in connection to the name.

Pffft...! I tend not to use the term "hack" here... Anyway: To German visitors (and others who know about German formal $thins) "e.V." shows our legal status veryclearly. Often enough at booths visitors are asking for it.
I think issue is not a main issue, surely. I see a small advantage by using it, but if you decide not to do so, I am happy as well. ;-)
The main issue in my eyes is resolving the abbreviation "FSFE".
